Dr. Sheperd was born in Ann Arbor and attended high school in Portage, Michigan. Following graduation, he attended Northern Michigan University in Marquette, receiving his undergraduate degree, a Bachelors of Science in Biology. He then went on to the University Of Michigan School Of Dentistry. After earning his DDS degree, Dr. Sheperd joined the United States Air Force. He performed general dentistry for four years including a one year dental residency (AEGD). Dr. Sheperd completed his oral surgery residency at The University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey in Newark (UMDNJ). He then completed four more years in the Air Force practicing oral surgery and instructing general dental residents. Dr. Sheperd entered into private practice in 2008.
Dr. Stringer was raised in the rural town of Hadley, Michigan. He earned his bachelors degree from the University of Michigan and his dental degree from New York University where he was valedictorian of his class. Following graduation, he served four years as a general dentist in the USAF Dental Corps. He completed an Advanced Education in General Dentistry residency at the USAF Academy before serving at two bases in Nevada. Dr. Stringer was awarded the Air Force Commendation Medal and was named Company Grade Officer of the Year. Upon completion of his service, Dr. Stringer commenced training in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, one of the largest and highest-ranked healthcare systems in the nation. Dr. Stringer practices full-scope oral & maxillofacial surgery and has particular interests in dental implants, bone grafting, and corrective jaw surgery. Sean married his college sweetheart Chelsea in 2008. They have three children: Hudson, Harrison and Colleen. Dr. Stringer feels most at home outdoors and enjoys all that Northern Michigan has to offer.

I did not even cry! That's a first! I only had one molar removed, with nitrous and numbing. Even so, the last time I had a tooth extracted (at my regular dentist, not here) under similar circumstances, I was a total wreck. What's the difference? Dr. Stringer makes sure to tell you what he's going to do and what he's doing as he does it. His assistant (Brittney I believe) was very welcoming and helped me relax before the extraction. All of the staff was very professional and did their jobs well. Their new office is clean, comfortable, and spacious. As for the actual extraction, you can tell Dr. Stringer has a lot of experience. It was quick and there were no complications. He also explained all of the next steps to me and I feel like I'm being taken care of completely. Not to speak badly of my previous regular dentist, because she was great for everything else. This is just the kind of thing for which you are better off going to see someone who is an expert.

Dr. Shepard was awesome. I had an implant for a tooth. I a very afraid of the dentist and needles. He was so great with me. They relax me. Everything went great.

Google Maps makes it confusing when it comes to finding Dr. Shepherd's office. If you look it up under his name you get a message that the office is permanently closed. However, if you look it up under Great Lakes Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery you get the proper address and it's not permanently closed. Geez! A person can't even change the name of their business and suddenly you can't find them!

I've never had a medical procedure done before, so after months of pain, I was scared to get my wisdom tooth removed. Dr. Stringer and his team were beyond amazing. I feel so much better.

I had Dr. Stringer remove all 4 of my wisdom teeth under IV sedation. My wisdom teeth were partially impacted and at odd angles, and I was very nervous about getting an IV. He prescribed me something to help with my nerves for the IV and made it easy and painless for me. He explained everything about the procedure beforehand and answered all of my questions with kindness. His staff was kind and knowledgeable, and the office was nice and clean. He even called me after the surgery to check on me, after I'm sure he had a very long day. I would highly recommend him and his office!

We had to take my daughter in on vacation after she broke her two front baby teeth. The staff couldn't have been better in dealing with a sore 4 year old and two stressed out parents! We were in and out in a few hours. We can't recommend them enough!

Just got all four wisdom teeth out and it was by far one of the easiest doctor visits. Dr. Shepherd and everyone made me feel super comfortable. Super quick and minimal pain. Thank you!

I traveled four hours to get my work done at this company. Dr. Stringer and his staff and partner are so nice and professional that they make you feel so welcome. Dr. Stringer did the extraction and put in a graft with such ease that I couldn't believe how soon it was done! My mouth healed nicely and swiftly. I will be going back soon to get the implant. I have no doubt I'm in good hands when going to Great Lakes Oral & Maxillofacial.

First of all, I HATE going to the dentist or anything in my mouth... but... Dr Stringer and his staff made everything go so smoothly and I was never too anxious! They made me feel very comfortable for having 6 teeth pulled in the last week! I would definitely recommend going here if you need work done!

Extremely professional and understanding. As someone who only has experiences with dentists berating and belittling me for not doing enough (regardless of effort actually put in) the appointments I had here we're very courteous, benefitial, informative and surprisingly affordable. The staff was very understanding and accommodating when I informed them of my developed phobia of dentists and medical situations. They were upfront and clear about pricing information (even going so far as to calculate how much of the total my dental insurance should end up covering...and considering my bill after getting my wisdom teeth removed, I think they may have already confirmed the portion my insurance agreed to cover before I arrived). I needed to get all of my wisdom teeth removed and was pretty much completely petrified, both of the cost and experience and ended up pleasently surprised on both counts! I will absolutely be recommending Great Lakes Oral to anyone I know experiencing severe dental issues.

Do not go anywhere else! Dr. Stringer is the best oral surgeon you will ever meet. Prior to my first appointment with him, I was in a complete state of health anxiety. I couldn't sleep, I was constantly feeling a sense of dread, and all around hopelessness. Words cannot explain how much of a difference he made on just the first appointment alone. He was extremely professional and sympathetic of my situation, and explained everything in great detail. He made me feel completely confident in going forward with him as my surgeon, and also eliminated most of, if not all of the anxiety I had about it. Over the span of this year Dr. Stringer has performed three surgeries on me, all of which I never had any fear going into because I 100% believed in him. Every issue I had was taken care of, and I am very happy with how everything went. The follow up appointments also never felt like an inconvenience, I enjoyed going to them. I also cannot forget the staff, they are all very incredible as well. I would not suggest going anywhere else!

I had all four of my wisdom teeth removed by Doctor Shepherd. I was nervous but they explained everything to me and made me feel comfortable. Everyone was extremely kind and helpful.
