Dr. James Matia is a highly experienced and compassionate periodontal specialist who, for over 30 years, has been devoted to giving patients the best chance to retain their own teeth for lifewith minimal discomfort.
A native of Grafton, Ohio, Dr. Matia graduated from Ashland College with honors with a dual degree in Biology and Chemistry. In 1979, he graduated from the Ohio State University, College of Dentistry. In 1984 he received a certificate in Periodontics as well as a Masters of Science in Dentistry from Case Western Reserve School of Dentistry.
Dr. Matia has received standard and advanced proficiency training, as well as Fellowship status from the Institute for Advanced Laser Dentistry. He is also a member of the International College of Dentistry and has completed over 5,000 laser surgical procedures.
In his free time, Dr. Matia enjoys fishing and skiing with his family and being a loyal Cleveland sports fan. He is also a supporter of the fine arts at his children's colleges, alma maters, and Boy Scouts of America, having served as a Leader while his two sons completed their Eagle Scout requirements. Dr. Matia and his wife of over 25 years reside in Medina Township.

Staff was professional, very customer friendly. Had an unfortunate fracture of a front tooth and Great Lakes Dental was able to fit me in and took care of my issue. Have never felt so comfortable at the dentist. Office is gorgeous, artwork awesome! Highly recommend.

Incredible experience! An extraction was completely painless, recovery had almost no discomfort, the staff is very upbeat and Dr. Polman takes the time to explain every part of a procedure. This is a great practice!

I went in and had 4 teeth worked on at one time...this dental office was the most amazing ever!!! All dentists should run their office just like Great Lakes Dental!!! Thank you to everyone in the office for literally saving my teeth!! I love you ALL!!! THE BEST PLACE EVER!!!!

I went for a cleaning and a checkup. And that's what I got. I was not pressured into getting any unnecessary work done. I got a good oral cleaning and the staff is very professional. In 57 years this is the best dentist I've been to. Honest. Dependable. Professional. Very friendly. This is a good dentist. I'll be his patient as long as he practices.

I wish I remembered all the names of the hygients that assisted in my extraction today....because you all are amazing! Most compassionate dentist office I have ever gone to. Dr. Polman was also amazing!! He actually had to tap me on my shoulder to let me know my extraction was done....thats how painless it was! Thank you all for everything!

Great Lakes Dental unequivocally has the best services and supporting staff anywhere you can find in the greater Cleveland area. You are are treated just like family and the quality of work is second to none. They offer a wide range of services that include procedures such as dental reconstruction to Invisalign clear aligners. Kind of like a dental one stop shop for you and your whole family.

Consider this.....how many dentists would have hundreds of reviews with a 4.9 rating lol. Read through the reviews and you will see that either their office staff is writing them or someone else but it is beyond obvious when you read the reviews that they are not patients. NO business would ever have a 4.9 star review and from my experience a few years ago there (yes it has been a few years and I am still disgusted) this place should be closed down. Like another reviewer put, it is all about mass dentistry. I had LANAP and my teeth are so fxd up after the guy filed down my front tooth so much that it is actually changing my bite. There were so many problems when I went to this place from the front desk to Dr. Beech who is NOT friendly, arrogant, and obviously pays someone to write these hundreds of false reviews. Read the reviews and think about whether it is fake or real and you will come to your own conclusion. Stay far away from this place.

They are advanced compared to other dental offices in the area; all the staff seemed very friendly and caring. Dr Brewer is the best dentist I've seen since I moved to Ohio 4 years ago.

Had my 1st visit at Great Lakes Dental and it was by far the best and most thorough I've ever had! Everyone is very friendly and it is a very comfortable environment. My hygienist Stephanie is one of the best around and Dr. Brewer made me feel so comfortable. I would recommend them to anyone I know!!!

Everyone I talked to at my appointment today was SUPER friendly.. made me feel comfortably at home. My hygienist Hannah was incredible, she explained everything thoroughly and took great care of me. I had to bring my two year toddler along but that didnt frustrate Hannah or other team members at all. That warmed my heart because we all know how toddlers can be when we're trying to take care of business LOL. The lobby and exam rooms are beautifully designed and clean. I'm so happy I chose this office for my dental needs! 10/10 would recommend!!

I was not a fan of the dentist until I came here, the people here make you feel so comfortable and cared about. I had to get some work done that I never had before so naturally I was nervous. Afterwards I received a card from the dentist saying I did a good job etc. I thought that so kind of them to do. I won't go anywhere else!

Soon as you walk-in it has a good atmosphere from the lobby to the exam chair. Very clean, professional but make you feel welcomed and not rushed. Everyone's attitude is great! Up to date technology and they breakdown and talk what's going on into normal understanding terms.
