I started out in the dental field as a dental assistant. I fell in love with the dental office and knew I wanted to stay. As time went on, I advanced as far as I could in my dental assisting career by becoming a registered dental assistant.
My son, Troy, had been present during many of my dental assisting duties, and when he entered college he decided to be a dentist. We checked out University of Kentucky College of Dentistry, and Troy became a student there in 1989. I visited for Parents Day and was so excited to be in a dental school that the professors encouraged me to apply. I was accepted and began dental school in 1990. The Dean at the time did some research and discovered my son and I to be the only recorded mother following son family in any dental school!
Of course, all of these accomplishments have been by the grace of God and the love and support of my husband, Denny. We just celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary! In my spare time, I have a second business making and selling both steampunk and chainmail jewelry. I was accepted into the Kentucky Crafted Guild in 2013, which is an artistic achievement! Making jewelry is fun and also helps maintain finger mobility.
I keep informed and continue to learn and grow in my ability to treat dental disease. I am passionate about staying up to date with the newest and best technology. I expect professionalism and a high level of skills from all of my team, myself included. I would love to share my skills and talents with you in my office!
After high school, I went to vocational business college. I have also taken many classes while working here to enhance my technical and patient skills. I joined the team at Great Grins in March 2000 in administration. I love that we all work together as a team. They are like my second family. I am usually the first person a patient sees, and I always greet them with a smile. I also work to get patients in with their schedule as much as I can. I also work with their insurance to find out benefits, etc.
I am a native of Madison County. My husband George and I have two daughters and four grandchildren. George runs his own business, Brockmans Automotive. I am an outdoor person. I love to go boating at the lake and also work in my flower gardens. I love spending time with the grandchildren and family.
I am originally from Ewing, Virginia. I have lived in Kentucky for the last 18 years. My husband, Garry, is a detective for the Lexington Police Department and my daughter, Kirsten, is a student at Madison Southern High School in Berea, where we live.
I would say that my job is to help patients live healthier lives by providing my services and working with them one on one to provide the education and oral habits needed to be successful with current and long-term home care.
I am a people person, so not only do I teach my patients, but I also learn something from someone every day. I have done this job for a long time and no day has ever gone by that I feel like I have not made a difference in someones life!

Let me say as of now, this place has restored my faith in how people can be treated when it comes to pain, fear of a dentist office. I had an appointment at Aspen and it was a flipping nightmare and this dentist got me in on the same day as my nightmare and helped me!!!! A lot can be said for smaller dental offices!!! They showed more customer service, compassion and understanding then I have seen in a long time!! I will be going here for as long as I need to. God willing!!! This office is out of my way by 45 minutes. Let me say they are well worth it!!!!!

I will say, the staff is amazing. They were kind to me. Susan is another story. The first time that I met her, it was pleasant. The second time that I met her, is because I drove 45 minutes to go back to see them and have them adjust the teeth guard they made for me. I was trying to explain to her that the teeth guard that they made for me was made with an error on front teeth area. Someone broke two teeth on the model they made of my teeth and glued it back on. This caused the tooth to not be exactly how my real teeth are. I showed her the evidence. So, when I wore the guard, it would push and twist on my front top tooth and it was very painful. Instead of just wanting to fix it, she looked me dead in the eyes and told me that my top teeth are crooked and that the model is not broken. My top teeth are straight. My two front teeth are straight. I don't ever leave reviews. I never leave reviews because I usually just move on with my life. But this left me feeling sick to my stomach that a medical professional would be so weirdly cruel and gaslighting. I want to point out again, that the rest of the staff was kind to me. I even really enjoyed meeting some of them. But for me to pay over 400+ of my own cash and then have a Dentist refuse to admit her mistake (I can only assume she made the model if she was so defensive and immature about it), is just appalling. I didn't want a refund. I wasn't trying to cause a scene. I just wanted my guard fixed so that I could wear it and not damage my teeth or cause pain. A sweet girl did adjust the guard for me and it does feel better. It is just appalling that I had to argue with Susan to get it done. She should be ashamed. I have been raving happily about this dentist office to my friends and I drive from 45 minutes away and was very happy until this abusive event. I am glad I didn't let her push me around or gaslight me further. Be careful, some people will literally look you in the eyes and try to convince you that you are stupid or crazy.

Environment is very friendly and causes you to be comfortable in a place where people (the dentist office) might avoid. A welcome atmosphere where the goal is expert dental care and a feeling of trust; and staffed with well trained and knowledgeable people.

I have been to multiple dental offices over the years but none compare to Great Grins. I really love this place and wish I had always been a patient there. Everyone of the staff is very knowledgeable and so helpful you just feel like part of a family. My hygienist Heather is just the sweetest and offers me advice and help on my dental health journey.I feel like I've know her my whole life. And Dr.Vanstone is truly one of a kind. You are missing out if you go anywhere else for you dental needs!!

I absolutely love Great Grins Dentistry! Everyone there is super nice and accommodating. All of my questions were answered and they do the best work! I recently got dentures from there and they look so natural and they made sure I was happy before leaving and they took their time. I highly recommend for all your dentistry needs!

This was my daughters first time at the dentist (she's 2 and a half) and she's usually very skeptical of people she doesn't know especially if it's something involving doctors and things. Heather was amazing with my little girl. Very patient, kind, and gentle. She didn't even cry because Heather made it such a fun experience. Dr. Vanstone was also great!!!! Totally recommend!

Oh wow .this dental office was a blessing for me because of my insurance being of lower quality than some people have I was maltreated or turned away by other offices. ..Dr VanStone and her staff welcomed me with open arms, a smile, and some reassurance that everything was going to be okay. She was very nice and easy to talk to and just generally concerned for her patient ... Although I was not in pain when I went into this visit I don't doubt it that she would have treated me for that also if I needed it. I was really stressed out from dealing with the other dental office I was going to and she put a smile on my face again knowing that I was going to be able to fix my teeth and my insurance would cover all or most of it. Until I met the great friends at Great Grins Dental office I was discouraged and concerned about losing my front tooth. I give them five stars and I recommend them to anyone that has low insurance ,high insurance, or no insurance. I'm looking forward to continuing my care with Dr VanStone and I recommend her and her highly trained staff to all ages and incomes.... I usually don't take the time to give people reviews on Google but I was more than happy to give a review to Great Grins dental office
