Dr. Michael Tyler was born in San Diego, and with the exception of time away for school, has called East County, home, for his entire life. Dr. Tyler graduated from West Hills high school in Santee and after attending college in South Dakota and Long Beach, he returned to complete his biology degree at San Diego State University. Dr. Tyler attended dental school at the University of the Pacific School of dentistry (or UOP, though now called Arthur A Dugoni School of Dentistry). The education he received at UOP taught him the value of comprehensive patient care and a gentle caring touch. This approach helped Dr. Tyler mold a philosophy of patient care that pays attention to the needs of the patient as a whole, instead of just a set of teeth. Dr. Tyler continues his education on the advances in all fields of dentistry so he can address more needs and minimize the need of patients to be referred to other clinicians. Since graduation in 2004, Dr. Tyler has worked locally and has established a reliable network of specialist to address your dental needs should that be required.
Dr. Tyler and his wife Michelle were married October 2012 and reside here in El Cajon. They are the proud parents of a little girl, Mia, and her two younger twin brothers Brody and Tanner. When not at the office, Dr. Tyler enjoys the family time even if it means a lack of sleep (please excuse the bags under the eyes!) The family spends many weekends at their vacation spot in Palo Verde, CA where they enjoy the river during the warm months and hiking and ATVs in the mountain trails during the cold months. When a good photo opportunity presents Dr. Tyler enjoys capturing the moment and you can see some examples of those shots at the office.
Dr. Jared Gibbons recently left his longtime home in Utah to reside in Sunny San Diego. He attended and graduated from the University of Oklahoma. Dr. Gibbons loves his profession because of how rewarding it is to see a patient smile with pride after completing a treatment or overcoming their anxiety or simply being told they are cavity-free. His goal as a dental provider is to ensure a positive dental experience and achieve optimal oral health for all his patients.
Dr. Jared Gibbons was born and raised in Utah, and growing up in Utah made him develop a love for the outdoors. He is an avid skier, hiker, runner, and explorer. Aside from his energetic lifestyle, you can usually find him outside with his 5 year old Golden Shepherd named Ziggy.
Cher has been a member of our team since 2015. She strives in providing meticulous preventative dental care with a gentle touch. Cher finds that being a member of this entire team is enjoyable because of everyones corresponding efforts in obtaining one common goal, which is optimal oral health. Cher started her dental career in 2006 as a dental assistant and administrative member. She has been practicing as a hygienist since 2013. Outside of work, she loves to travel, cook, try new restaurants, and being a mom.
Shirley has worked in dentistry for over 30 years and a team member since 1990. Shirley has been instrumental in helping the office achieve its 'chartless' status. Shirley is now a familiar face at the front desk full time and helping the doctors as needed. What she enjoys most about her position is helping people attain great oral health and beautiful smiles to match.
Tina has been with Granite Hills Dental Team since 2018. As a Registered Dental Assistant she really enjoys being able to help each patient feel informed and comfortable throughout their visit. When not at work you can catch her at the gym working out and spending time with her family.
Jess is a recent addition to the front office administration team, and offers a certain foreign flair to Granite Hills, having migrated across the seas from the land Down Under to San Diego in July, 2017. New to the world of dentistry, Jess has worked as an elementary school teacher in Australia for over a decade. She has welcomed the change in career with open arms and is eager to learn. Jess especially loves having a yarn (Australian for conversation) with our patients and can always be counted on to greet everyone with a ripper Aussie smile.
Lara has been with the team since early 2018. She is dedicated to providing a positive dental experience for each and every patient. She is proud to work with Dr. Tyler, Dr. Gibbons and the rest of the staff at Granite Hills Dental Team because of their commitment to excellent personalized care. Lara takes pride in making the insurance and finance aspects of dentistry as easy as possible for our patients. She is a problem solver and will go above and beyond to ensure that our patients questions get answered. Lara is a graduate of the Central European University with a Masters Degree in History. In her spare time, Lara enjoys spending quality time with her cats and watching Harry Potter with her Husband.
Michelle joined Granite Hills Dental Team in 2014 working as a front office team member and has grown into the role of Practice Administrator. Michelle helps oversee the office operations and is committed to making the experience in our office a positive one for all of our patients and staff! Her goal is to continually learn and incorporate the knowledge of dentistry, insurance, and customer service to equip our team to best serve our patients and their families.

I called to ask if they accept medi-cal and they do not, but the receptionist was kind enough to provide me with a website: dhcs.Ca.gov so that I can find medi-cal accepting dental providers instead of calling around to the offices with the best reviews all day only to be turned down! That was very kind of her being that she already knew that I wouldn't be a client there at the moment, but still would help me find another dentist that I could be a client to. Thank you!

Granite Hills Dental Team is the most caring, responsive, professional dental team that I have had the pleasure of being in their care. They listen to the patients concerns so that they can formulate the right sequence of care that meets the patient's needs and their budget. I would recommend anyone seeking Dental care to place Granite Hills Dental Team at the top of their list!!

I have been a patient of Granite Hills Dental for at least 23 years under the excellent care of Dr Scharer and now Dr Tyler. Out of all the dentists I've been to through my life, this has been the absolute best. Their equipment is state 9f the art, the staff are all consummate professionals, always friendly and polite. I have never had to return for faulty work and the dental work and materials always were first rate. I'm not related to or have any personal relationships with any of them other than as a patient and they are 100% the best. From my first visit back in 1998 I knew it. I feel sorry for others who are forced to use cut rate clinics. These are life decisions. Thank you Dr Scharer, Dr Tyler, and thank you Granite Hills Dental. Two thumbs up. God bless Allen Swalling

My wife and I have been with the Granite Hills Dental Team for many years. And, even though the Team has changed over the years, we still receive excellent Dental Care.
