Dr. Monticello graduated from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor where he earned his undergraduate degree in pre-med Biology. He continued his studies and received his Doctorate of Dental Surgery from the University of Detroit Mercy Dental School. He then accepted a commission as a Captain with the United States Air Force and served in South Korea and State-side bases. He transferred to the Michigan Air National Guard upon his acceptance into the orthodontic residency program at Detroit Mercy where he completed his research thesis and earned his Masters Degree. In 2015, he completed his commitment and deployments with the U.S. Air Force and now focusses completely on his patient care and family life.
Dr. Monticello is a Diplomat with the American Board of Orthodontics and stays up-to-date on all the latest advancements in the field of orthodontics through ongoing continuing education classes. He has held leadership positions with all his professional associations. He has been the Editor and President of the Michigan Association of Orthodontists (MAO), President of the Council of Michigan Dental Specialists (CMDS), President of the West Michigan Dental Foundation (WMDF), Editor of the Great Lakes Association of Orthodontists (GLAO) and Editor of the Michigan Association of Orthodontists (MAO) Newsletters. He is currently the Associate Editor of the Journal of the World Federation of Orthodontists (JWFO), GLAO Delegate with the American Association of Orthodontists (AAO), Secretary/Treasurer of the GLAO and Board member of the MAO. He maintains active membership with his specialty associations, the West Michigan District Dental Society (WMDDS), the Michigan Dental Association (MDA), the American Dental Association (ADA) and the Association of Military Surgeons of the United States (AMSUS).
Dr. Monticello is married to his Air Force nurse sweetheart, the love of his life. They are very proud of their three wonderful children as they pursue their vocations and careers. He enjoys family activities, travelling, boating, volunteering in the community and is an accomplished home wine maker.
Dr. Beccas interest in orthodontics began in this very office when she was a patient of her uncle, Dr. John Monticello. She has wanted to be an orthodontist since she was 10 years old and reached that goal by attending Michigan State University and graduating Magna Cum Laude with a 4.0 GPA. From there she moved to Milwaukee, WI to attend Marquette University School of Dentistry and finished in the top of her class. Dr. Becca then moved back to Michigan to become an orthodontic specialist and attended the same orthodontic residency that Dr. John attended, the University of Detroit Mercy. Her training there included the newest technologies available to orthodontics but still set a solid foundation with traditional treatment methods and approaches. These combined allow her to provide her patients with the best and most efficient individualized treatment. She loves working with her patients to achieve their dream smiles and gain self confidence in the process.
Dr. Becca is a candidate to be a diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontists. She regularly attends educational seminars and conferences to stay up to date with the newest treatment techniques and continue to provide the highest standard of care for her patients. Dr. Becca and her husband, Dr. Alex Peterson, share a love of travel, attending concerts, and rooting for MSU sports. She also enjoys cooking both new and old recipes and staying active on her Peloton. They are both so excited to join the Grand Rapids community and Dr. Becca looks forward to creating dream smiles that last a lifetime!

Our family has been coming to Grand Ridge Orthodontics for several years. We are so glad we did! Our orthodontic treatment and care have been beyond excellent, beyond our highest expectations. Dr. Monticello's attention to detail, competence, expertise, and patience has overcome our many individual orthodontic challenges to achieve great results. For example, other orthodontists recommended oral surgery for our son, but Dr. Monticello created a plan and executed it to achieve the same excellent results without surgery. We greatly appreciated this, since our son has PTSD for pain from previous medical surgeries. The staff has treated him very gently, with respect, despite him being a somewhat difficult patient at times. Our daughter is so happy with her results, she now will show her teeth when she smiles. She would never do this before, since she was embarrassed of her teeth. It is great to see her develop this confidence. For myself, I had Invisalign to correct severe crowding that caused severe TMJ pain. Even though my pain was resolved with the correction of my bite, Dr. Monticello gave me an extra year of treatment free of charge in order to correct some minor cosmetic imperfections. I have spoken to other friends, even dental hygienists in our area, who have not been completely happy with the results of their orthodontic treatment, but their orthodontists have refused to perfect it with additional care. This practice is a gem. The staff is always very kind, professional, and quick to respond to our questions. They get us in to see the doctor for any extra last-minute appointments for any concerns. The excellent care and expertise of Dr. Monticello and staff allows us to trust that we're in the best of hands. I truly believe their care surpasses other practices in the Grand Rapids area, and probably the entire state, since we have also lived on the east side of Michigan. We highly recommend this practice.

We had the pleasure of being with Grand Ridge Orthodontics for both of our children. They each needed 2 phases of treatment so we have been coming to their office for several years. We started with Dr John and most recently have been with Dr Rebecca. Their clinical expertise was excellent and you can expect kindness and patience - warm staff and environment.

Wonderful staff all around. My son started care at 8 and finishing up now at age 17. Dr Monticello is an excellent communicator on what the problems are and how to best fix the jaw and teeth to allow proper growth. The last visit was amazing to recap where we started and final results. I highly recommend this office and their entire staff. Thank you!

My children have absolutely NO fear of going to the Orthodontist (or dentist) ANYMORE because of Dr. John Monticello. He's a comfortable man to be around, and a genuinely down-to-earth, funny guy. You see, I also got my braces from Dr. Monticello. So when I realized my children needed braces as well, I pulled out the yellow pages and started searching. Luckily I found him quick. Thank you for straightening our smiles.

I had seen 3 different dentist to help me with my problem, but it wasn't until I went to Grand Ridge that my problem was solved in one sitting. They referred me to another general dentist for my comprehensive care with their assurance to consult when needed. I couldn't ask for a better experience.

Dr. Monticello and his staff are extraordinairy! Prior to seeing Dr. Monticello, I had been to a number of specialists and dentists in an attempt to resolve a complex tmj dental challenge but no success. Dr. Monticello demonstrated a profound commitment to understand, diagnose, and innovate a solution to resolve both the ear ringing and function of my teeth and jaw. The entire team at Grand Ridge Orthodontics is first rate. The care my daughter received was excellent. And, everyone from the person I talk with on the phone to the doctor is professional and kind. They know my daughter when she walks in, and she feels very comfortable there.

I cannot say enough about GRO. The staff is so welcoming and helped ease any nerves my daughter had about getting braces.
