Shay McGowan, D.D.S. was born and raised in Grand Island, NE. He completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Nebraska at Kearney and graduate education at the University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Dentistry in 1994 and has been at the same location ever since.
Dr. McGowan began establishing his current practice in Grand Island Dental. He is a member of the American Dental Association, the Nebraska Dental Association and is the current co-president of the Hall County Dental Association.
Mindy Rief, D.D.S. was born and raised in Lexington, NE. She completed her undergraduate education at Nebraska Wesleyan University in Lincoln and her graduate education at the University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Dentistry in 2007.
Dr. Rief joined Grand Island Dental in June of 2007. She is a member of the American Dental Association, a delegate for the Nebraska Dental Association and is co-president of the Hall County Dental Association.

The morning of my appointment, I woke up with a 103 fever, I had a friend take me for a COVID test, and was told to isolate until the PCR test result was back. I few minutes after my appointment was set to start, they texted me and I let them know that I likely had COVID (test did come back positive later) They responded for me to call to reschedule. When I did, they demanded $1,000 before they would even reschedule my appointment. This despite always paying my bill in full at the time of service. This for trying to protect their staff and being more concerned with the fact that it hurt to move than with contacting them immediately. Their prices are significantly higher than other area dentists, and they do not do financing.

Kind, efficient, truly professional, and always there for you... what else could you ask for in a dental office? These are folks who understand not just their craft, but also the fact that their clients are all too often stressed out and none too glad to be in the office - and yet they make you feel right at home and go out of their way to take care of your issues. I simply can't recommend these folks highly enough... and this is coming from a guy who had a root canal. :D (By the way, the 4.6 rating that they have here is simply because of a mistaken review - see below. This is every bit a five star office.)

The staff was very nice and welcoming. I usually dread going to the dentist to have my teeth cleaned, this visit was gentle, quick and thorough, and I don't have any cold sores showing pressure points. I will definitely return.

Dr McGowan and his assistant Jo are awesome!!! They are super great at explaining everything and he really does care! I am constantly telling people to go there because my experience with the entire staff has been exceptional!!

Dr. Rief went above a beyond to take care of metofay. Camryn was professional and pleasant. Shelby and Dr. Rief were excellent! Can't say enough about how wonderful they all were. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!

Have been a patient for 20 years. Every experience has been excellent! They really care about the patient. Our whole family has gone to see Dr. Mindy Rief and Dr. Shay McGowen. Would recommend them to anyone.

I got my teeth cleaned by a nice lady named Kelly. She did an extraordinary job cleaning my nasty teeth. She had to do a lot of extra scraping and I almost felt bad for her having to do the extra work. Turns out plaque turns into a concrete like substance. I said maybe I should show up every six months instead of every two years and she agreed in the most polite way possible. Dr. Shay put 4 fillings in my teeth the week before. The process was quick and as painless as one could expect at the dentist. His assistant Tonya was very professional and outgoing. She made the process very smooth.
