My practice is grounded on my belief in, and commitment to, providing complete and comprehensive care to the people and families of Brooklyn, NY.Through continuing education and participation in courses both as a student and as a mentor, I bring the highest level of treatment modalities to my patients. At the same time, I approach my patients as individuals, addressing their full physical,nutritional, and life needs. My goal is to help my patients make the best decisions for their overall dental health.
Connecting and communicating with my patients has been key in accomplishing this goal and will be central to my practice at Gowanus Dental. My hope is that my patients leave feeling comfortable and knowing that all of their needs and concerns have been heard and addressed.
Dr. Illya Tarasenko earned his Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) at Temple University where he excelled in both the didactic and clinical portions of his education. His excellence was recognized by his professors in his graduating year through the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (AAOMFS)2007 Dental Student Award, which is awarded to only one dental student in the nation each year.Dr. Tarasenko continued his education in a rigorous residency program at Brookdale University Hospital in Brooklyn, NY, where he earned his certificate of completion in Dental and Oral Surgery.
Since residency, Dr. Tarasenko has served the people and families of Brooklyn in private practice while also earning three prestigious credentials. In 2009, he was granted the title of Fellow of the International Congress of Oral Implantologists (ICOI). In 2012, he was granted the title of Fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry (AGD) and was granted the title of Associate Fellow of the American Academy of Implant Dentistry (AAID). All three of these credentials require hundreds of hours of continuing education, passing an examination, and patient case presentations. In the past, Dr. Tarasenko also served on the membership committee for the AAID and is currently a credentialing coach and mentor.
Dr. Tarasenko lives and works in Brooklyn, currently residing in the Red Hook neighborhood of Brooklyn with his wife, son, and newborn daughter. He is an active member of the South Brooklyn Running Cluband is passionate about both running and fitness. He loves to help motivate and inspire others make fitness a part of their lives as well.

I've been coming to Gowanus dental for about 2 years now. Right when you walk in you are greeted by wonderful staff. The hygienist Silwia does a great job on making you comfortable and providing helpful information for your teeth and gums. Dr. Tarasenko took care of me when I needed fillings and my wisdom teeth pulled. I am happy with the staffs dedication and commitment to their patients.

Dr. Illya is the very best. His office staff & hygienists are equally amazing. He understands and is able to cope with my anxiety. Anyone who can work with the level of anxiety I have when it comes to dentists is a miracle worker. He also noticed skin discoloration & possibly saved my life. I went to my primary MD & found out I needed blood transfusion. Thank you Dr. Illya!

Overall, very unprofessional and comes off as an aggressive sales man. Does not have the interest of the patient, but moreso on the business. Would not prescribe antibiotics unless he would extract my tooth. DId not provide complete recommendations on how to go about treating an infected tooth. Also messed up my filling twice on upper right portion of my mouth. First time he may have chipped a neighboring tooth while performing a filling on the one next to it (billed for this). Second time, he missed a small decay on the first filling he did. Ended up having to see another general dentist to get the filling fixed.

I would highly recommend this dental office to everyone. The staff is very welcoming, friendly, and caring from the minute you walk in. The office is very modern, and clean. I am happy to have found a dental office that puts patients needs and concerns about their smiles as a priority.

Great experience here. I hadnt been to the dentist in awhile and the dental hygienist, Sylwia was amazing. She answered all of my questions, gave great advice, and was very friendly. The front office staff and other dental assistants were also very nice and did a great job. Dr. Tarasenko was super nice and made me feel very informed of different dental care options i had. I am very happy I found Gowanus Dental and look forward to continuing my care here.

I went there with my 3 yo for first check up and cleaning. The service was very kind and nice. Chygienist Sylwia was Profesional and made it perfect first experience for my son. I Will get back there for sure.

This sounds odd about going to see the dentist but I have to say how much I love going to this office. The staff is so caring and friendly and Dr Illya always goes above and beyond with your care and explaining everything step by step. It always feels like family when I'm there. I remember the first time I went to his office for a routine cleaning because it's been a while and the x-ray showed that I needed to have my wisdom teeth removed (I've been putting that off for a long LONG time!). He did the procedure same day and it was painless. They were also kind enough to provide me with their cell number in case I had any questions after hours or needed anything over the weekend. I cannot say enough wonderful things about this place!

I thought the reviews on here were too good to be true, but what you see is what you get. Amazing dentist. I had all 4 wisdom teeth taken out at once, two of which were impacted, and there was no pain! I really feel lucky to have found this office!

The best dentist & staff ever especially if you have anxiety . Calm setting beautiful aquarium in the waiting area .Dr Illya Alex Tarasenko was very thorough with his examination . Upon arriving early to my appointment he took the time to step out and acknowledge my early presence as a new patient . During the examination he was very concerned and gave me the proper advice. The dentist hygienist was really good really restored my teeth . I was afraid to have my molar extracted & during the process I didn't feel any pain Dr illya hands are smooth and very quick , few seconds and done I could not believe it . Upon leaving I received a bag with dental care instructions . definitely looking forward to future appointments .

I started using Gowanus Dental after my previous dentist retired and I wish that I found them sooner. I've received cleanings from Anna Binioris, RDH and Candice Zhong, RDH. Both are professional and more importantly, gentle and caring. Dr. Tarasenko is friendly, prompt, and knowledgeable. I will be moving out of NYC in the near future but plan on returning for my dental visits. Give them a try and you'll be in good hands.

I always have a wonderful and smooth experience here. The staff are very professional, super helpful and kind. Dr. Tarakenko is always very communicative, honest, and treats you very well. And their facility is always clean and well organized. I don't plan on going anywhere else. I highly recommend their services if you are looking for a top-notch dentist in the Brooklyn area.
