Dr. Gouvion graduated from USC School of Dentistry in 1967. After 2 years as a U.S. Navy Dentist, he joined Dr. James Hodge in Irvine. As the first dentists in Irvine, their practices flourished. After 22 years together, Dr. Hodge moved to Sun Valley, Idaho and Dr. Gouvion moved into his present suite.
Dr. Gouvion has continued to expand his knowledge and skills by attending thousands of hours of continuing education courses including a 40-year membership in the Newport Harbor Academy of Dentistry. He is also a member of the American Dental Association, California Dental Association, and the Orange County Dental Society.
Since 1979 Dr. Gouvion has lived in Newport Beach with his wife Nancy where they raised their three children Michael, Lauren, and Matthew. In his spare time, Dr. Gouvion enjoys all USC sports, his 7 grandchildren and the 5-acre vineyard he planted in Murrietta in 1999.
Dr. David E. Grant earned his Doctorate in Dental Surgery from the University of Southern California School of Dentistry in 2003. While attending USC, Dr. Grant was named a Dean's Scholar for his high levels of academic and clinical achievements. Prior to attending USC, Dr. Grant received his B.A. degree in Biology from the University of Pennsylvania in 1998. Dr.Grant practiced dentistry in Manhattan, NY for several years while his wife completed her residency in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
Delighted to move back to Southern California to finally be close to his family and friends, Dr. Grant joined the Irvine, Ca. practice in 2008 with a commitment to delivering the highest level of contemporary, comprehensive and compassionate dental care. Dedicated to staying current and proficient with leading-edge dentistry,he has incorporated some of the most advanced dental technology and techniques into the practice and participates regularly in continuing education and advanced training courses.
Dr. Pene moved to Irvine from the East Coast in 1987. She attended the University of California, Irvine where she earned a Bachelors of Science Degree in Biology, then continued on to receive her Doctorate in Dental Surgery at UCLA where she graduated with honors.
Following completion of a post-doctoral General Practice Residency at the Long Beach Veterans Hospital, Dr. Pene moved to Washington state to practice dentistry while her husband completed his Endodontic residency. After two years in Seattle, she returned to Irvine and has been practicing with us since 1999.

Nothing short of wonderful (said noone ever who goes to the dentist) but in this case is absolutely true. Extremely knowledgeable, kind, state-of the art and never makes you feel like a failure for not flossing, but then truly motivates you to want to do so by explaining in detail the ramifications in a kind and educational manner. Chris is an amazing hygenist in every aspect. I always feel wonderful after seeing her.

Dr. Gouvion and his staff are wonderful. He's been my parents dentist for over 40 years and they trust him. I've been in an HMO dental plan so not able to use him but the last 2 dentists in our plan had me and my husband second guessing their recommendations. One brand new dds said I needed over $5000 worth of work and I have great teeth so I went to Dr Gouvion for a 2nd opinion, he said I didn't need any of what they were recommending so I left that dds and started with a new one. I liked the new one fine but after 2 years with them they suddenly think my husband needs over $20,000 in work and I need $8500 of work. Went back to Dr. Gouvion and for John there were some root canals and crowns that he agreed with but saved him over $12,000 of unnecessary work that he didn't need and I didn't need ANY of the work they recommended. I'm dropping my dds and will only give my business to Dr. Gouvion in the future.

Regular check-up October 2022 included cleaning and x-rays. It was a pleasure to catch up with the office staff and chat with Dr. Grant. Good to know such professional care is available for routine stuff as well as fillings or a broken tooth/crown that I have needed in the past.

I have had great experiences with Gouvion & Grant over many years. Both teeth cleaning and dental work has consistently been excellent, and the entire staff very personable. I actually have enjoyed my visits to the dentist - something most people likely can not say. I am a 35 year client of their practice. Latest visits also great (2020), plus 2021 visit! Plus just finished 2022 visit - also great service!

After 8 years with another area dentist who closed his doors with no notification, my orthodontist referred me to Dr. Gouvion's team and I couldn't be happier! The ease of scheduling an appointment, the time that the office staff spent to obtain my records from my former dentist, the thorough evaluation, xrays, and cleaning delivered by Denise, along with Dr. Pene's candid and honest evaluation/assessment - the experience was superb from start to finish.
