Born in California, Dr. Gorrell was raised in the metropolitan Chicago area moving to the Midwest when he was in junior high school. He attended the University of Iowa on a swimming scholarship for his undergraduate studies. In 1979, he received his Doctor in Dental Surgery from Northwestern Universitys Dental School, at which point he decided hed had enough of Chicago winters.
Later that year, cosmetic dentist J. Brent Gorrell D.D.S. established his Mountain View, California practice serving Palo Alto and Sunnyvale. Since then he has remained committed to staying at the cutting-edge of the ever-changing field of dentistry. He fancies himself as a 'continuing education junkie,' as hes addicted to continuing education (CE) courses. Dr. Gorrell has remained dedicated to being one of Northern Californias finest cosmetic dentists.
Dr. Gorrell has also been active in several esteemed organizations including the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (member since 1996), the L.D. Pankey Institute, and the Academy of General Dentistry (in which he has earned his mastership). Dr. Gorrell is also a member of the International Congress of Oral Implantologists, the American Academy of Craniofacial Pain, and the International Association for Orthodontics. He's also an associate instructor for the Northern California Institute of Cosmetic Dentistry.
In his spare time, Dr. Gorrell enjoys spending time with his wife and three children. His interests include outdoor sports, including mountain biking, scuba diving, swimming, and skiing, as well as reading, and fine dining.
Dr. Nelishah Jiwani joined Gorrell Smiles in 2018 and is a highly qualified, passionate caregiver as well as a complement to our amazing team. Previously, Dr. Jiwani had been practicing in Toronto, Ontario for the past five years. She earned her Doctor of Dental Medicine degree from Boston University Goldman School of Dental Medicine in 2012 and then went on tocomplete the Advanced Education in General Dentistry program at Temple University in 2013.
Dr. Jiwani had to have extensive dental work done, and that has helped build her self-confidence. She is passionate about providing quality dental care that will bring a lifetime of health, function, and confidence for others.
Sharing Dr. Gorrell's value for excellence, Dr. Jiwani is dedicated to continuing growth in state of the art dentistry that delivers results for her patients. In her free time, Dr. Jiwani enjoys traveling, rock climbing, trying out new restaurants, being outdoors, and spending time with family and friends.
Dr. Judy Chau is a Bay Area native and a graduate from UC San Diego with a degree in Human Biology and Communications. She then attended the University of the Pacific, Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry where she was inducted into the Tau Kappa Omega honor society for scholastic excellence and character. She has worked in private practice for more than 10 years. Dr. Chau is continuously expanding her range of services in order to serve her patients more effectively.
She routinely takes advanced post graduate classes and residencies including the Endodontic Continuum at UCLA, Orthodontics at the Center for Occlusal Studies, and the International Dental Implant Association. Dr. Chau provides services in all aspects of general dentistry as well as root canals, complicated extractions, bone grafting, implant placement and restoration, sleep apnea appliances, traditional orthodontic treatment and Invisalign, soft tissue laser surgery, aesthetic dentistry, and full mouth reconstruction.
In tandem with her skills and experience, Dr. Chau has an exceptionally empathetic and compassionate bedside manner. Both children and adults feel at ease because of how she can explain scary sounding, complicated procedures with easy to understand analogies. Her passion and cheerfulness relaxes patients. She believes in treating not just the teeth but the patient as a whole. Dr Chau can speak Vietnamese and elementary Spanish as well. She and her husband have two beautiful children and a rescue pitbull. Outside of work, Dr. Chau plays the piano and guitar, is an experienced yogi, and enjoys hiking.

Joyce was born and raised in Taiwan, where she had a career as a Registered Nurse (RN). Shortly after immigrated to USA in 1985 and she became a registered assistant. Ever since, she has been in love with the dentistry profession and serving people in that capacity. She has shifted her practice and later her career from nursing to dental hygiene and graduated from the Dental Hygiene Program in Foothill College in 1994. With over 30 years of extraordinary experiences in the dental profession, she possesses strong passion and dedication to serve and help her patients every single day. Her enthusiasm with new knowledge and techniques in the field proves to be an enormous asset that benefits her patients. Her hobbies outside of work are cooking, crafting, singing, and traveling.
Eva joined our practice in November 2018. She became a Registered Dental Assistant in 2006. With over 14+ years of experience, Eva enjoys working with patients on achieving a healthy oral hygiene and their desired smiles!
Lu was born and raised in the Philippines. She started her dental career over 15 years ago. In the Philippines she went to dental school to be a Dentist, where she graduated with honors. Her passion for dentistry then inspired her to pursue another dental career . She then became Dental Hygienist when she moved to the US.
Jerelyn joined our practice in 2020 as a Dental Assistant. Her passion for caring and helping people as a care taker inspired her to move into the dental field. She is dedicated to professional growth so she will be starting Dental Hygiene school in 2021.
Araceli joined Gorrell smiles in 2015, and the thing that she loves most about her job is that, to her, its not a job at all! She has fun working with the team at Gorrell Smiles and building long-lasting relationships with our patients so they can relax and get the important dental care they need.
A San Jose native, Araceli attended Concorde Institute for her dental assistant training and graduated on the honor roll in 1995. In her free time, she enjoys going to the gym, spending time with her son, relaxing at home and adventures.
Hope has been working in the field of dentistry since 2002 and has been a part of the Gorrell Smiles dental team since 2015. She attended Carrington College and received an Associates degree in dental hygiene in 2011. Hope truly loves her work, and she has a heart for every patient that she treats. She feels especially satisfied when she can help a patient overcome a previous negative memory of dentistry and help them feel comfortable and happy to be receiving care.
A native of Wuhan, China, Hope attended Wuhan Conservatory where she received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Education and Dance in 1992. Hope was a dance teacher in China, and she still loves to dance and has been a Zumba instructor for five years.
Lillian attended Foothill College and Carrington College and has been with Gorrell Smiles since June 2018. She enjoys spending time with all of her patients educating and collaborating with them to help improve their oral hygiene routine. Lillian also appreciates working in a dental practice that welcomes ideas from the entire team and works together to make them happen. She values the team support and creative feedback that helps her improve her work and her patients experiences.
Jessica joined the Gorrell Smiles dental team in 2018, and she enjoys helping patients feel confident about their oral health and their smiles. A native of Sunnyvale, Jessica enjoys spending free time with her family.
Tamara joined Gorrell Smiles in 2017. As one of our skilled dental assistants, Tamara loves the opportunity to meet new people and show them how to take care of their teeth properly. She enjoys her wonderful coworkers who work together to make every day enjoyable and productive.
Tamara is a native of Tbilisi in the Republic of Georgia and attended Foothill College in Los Altos Hills where she studied dental assisting. In her free time, Tamara enjoys reading and spending time with family and friends. She also loves to cook and share her food with others.
As our financial coordinator, Lydia is well-versed in any matters that relate to dental insurance or financing the cost of dental care. Over the last 25 years, she has taken numerous courses devoted to insurance processing and financial arranging and processing. Lydia is the helpful team member you turn to with all of your insurance and financial questions.
Lydia joined Gorrell Smiles in 2014 and loves everything about working here including the ease of working as part of our team, the patients she assists, and her ability to use her skill to make the office run more smoothly.
