Lori graduated from Foothill Jr. College in Los Altos, CA in 1988, with a certificate in dental assisting. She then got credentialed as a Registered and Certified Dental Assistant in the state of California. Because of my organizational skills and love for processing insurance, she quickly figured out the front office is where she belongs.

She took a break from dental while her kids, Justin and Kirstin, were little. During that time Lori did in-home daycare, worked at the preschool her kids attended and then trained to be a certified Group Exercise Instructor. When her youngest got to be school age, she returned to dentistry. In fact, she was the Office Coordinator at her last office for nearly 14 years.

Her favorite part of the job, besides processing insurance, is the interaction between the patients and families. She enjoys getting to know people and working in a family-friendly environment. She strives to help patients understand their treatment needs and how they can make the most of their insurance benefits.

Lori has lived in the cute, small town of Willamina since 2016, with her husband, Dave. Between the two of them they have 4 grown children, two boys and two girls. They are also very proud grandparents of their spunky, six-year-old granddaughter, Aubree. Aubree spends weekends with them often. Other than her kids and grandkid, Lori enjoys gardening or just hanging out at home with their cat, Bear.

Memory is thrilled to be part of the Good Life Dentistry team, as everyone in the office is amazing. She loves people and, after spending the last 17 years working from home, is so happy to get to connect with patients and be a helpful member of the team. Memory has been married to her husband for 25 years and enjoys spending time with him and their three teenagers. As a former professional ballerina, dancing is her first passion. She teaches a weekly Zumba class, choreographs for a ballroom team and teaches ballet classes from time to time. She also really enjoys learning Norwegian, spending time with exchange students, and traveling to other countries.

She has 25 years experience. She loves all her people! Her patients are family to her. Over the years she has learned so much from them.

She has lived in Oregon for 17 years and loves it! She has explored a good amount of the state by camping, hiking, and driving the back roads (often getting lost but making the best out of it!). She loves driving to the coast for the sunset.

In her 'extra' time she loves to spend time with her boyfriend of 14 years along with his 3 children. They spend lots of time with baseball these days. She loves to cook, bake, read, and take long walks with her dog, Roscoe.

She enjoys helping people with all their dental needs and seeing them leave with a smile. She most loves people's stories, pictures, and adventures that they share. Being part of such a great team here at Hawaiian Smiles is such a pleasure.

Outside of work, Amy enjoys spending time with her Chihuaua, Rudy, friends, and family. Amy grew up on the coast, and takes many trips back to the beach to comb for treasures, but most of all, to see her dog Rudy enjoy it. Amy also enjoys running, hiking, eating healthy, watching movies, and reading true crime books.

As a dental hygienist, she loves that she gets a whole hour to connect with her patients and help them feel more confident about their oral health. She likes the opportunity to make someone's day better. She enjoys the open, laid-back atmosphere at Good Life and the support of her teammates.

Her first passion is music, and her favorite things to do are attending concerts and making music with friends! Aside from that, she loves to spend time with her boxer dog. She also loves being outdoors for sports, hiking, or just to relax. She would be outside all day if she could.

A little over a year ago I walked into Dr Shafer's office. Thirty five years old, horrible teethnetics, prone to getting a minimum of two new cavities a year, years of patchwork on each tooth from a lifetime of previous dentist. I finally scored dental coverage from my new job (First time ever in my life!!)Dr Shafer and his team were the most patient, kind and professional Dentists I have EVER visited. They spent up to an hour documenting everything, taking x-rays, pictures, and then completed a cleaning. I was a lifetime smoker who quit, avid soda drinker who stopped, I chewed tobacco for a few years and I was extremely unhappy with my smile. I also had this 2 year old completed, canine, root canal that was rotting out. Just forget the middle of my front teeth, top and bottom canines, stained from years of spitting chewing tobacco. First during the cleaning, Dr Shafer's Hygienist provided me the best advice with all that I was still doing. I was vaping, she said DRINK lots of water - vapes dry out your gums! She cleaned my teeth and was the most friendliest and talkative throughout (if you don't want to talk, she's also open to not talking :) I appreciate you!!Then I saw Dr Shafer, who collaborated with his Hygienist. After reviewing my mouth, Dr Shafer asked me what I wanted. I wanted what every person in America wants, a perfect white smile! lol. It wouldn't be so easy I thought. I had problem teeth everywhere, with one of my caps even feeling like it was going to pull my whole tooth out when I flossed. Dr Shafer created a game plan. Stage 1: Fix all cavities Stage 2: Get invisalign (I had braces when I was 12 years old due to an underbite, and unfortunately while I had perfectly straight teeth my HEAD KEPT GROWING and my teeth chomped chomped instead of the top biting over the bottom Stage 3: Oh such beautiful veneers for my front 6 teeth! Fast forward 1 year First we worked on my left side, the bottom left was where we started (that's the cap that was about to be pulled out when I flossed) and mind you DR shafer said when I floss don't pull up but go through, I had that fixed not even a week later (It was per my availability, single working mom of 2 kids here) Then we worked on the top when the pain was no longer an issue. (there was extensive tooth damage that required I think 2 hours on the bottom left side and after that It hurt to open my mouth for a short while.) After a short time we were able to get onto the RIGHT side, we started on the bottom where the worst damage is. I had no issues with pain afterwards and I went in again after 2 weeks! I must have had 26 cavities and a couple of teeth that are on his watch list that he fixed. Please note that he ensured I FELT nothing during the whole process. Keep in mind I have HORRIBLE teeth netics and during my thirty five years of life , I would average 2 cavities a year minimum, which means I would either a) build a tolerance to pain medication or b)be a scaredy cat I am neither but either way there was a slight twinge of fear that Dr Shafer eased! Fast forward to a referral for a free review for Invisalign to Dr Walker Orthopedics (upstairs, amazing staff!) and it was determined I could get invisalign for 18 months. WONDERFUL - except I live remote and was planning to move and ortho requires a twice a month check-in. Damn this life! So what about my ugly front teeth? That rotting root canal and the stains that were embedded so deep that a very thorough cleaning couldn't remove? Bless Dr Shafer, he said we could do temp veneers until we can complete Stage 2 of our 3 stage plan! Dr Shafer saved my smile, my life, my career. He is the most qualified dentist that if ANYONE asks or DOESN'T and mentions a toothache, I DRILL them to go see Dr Shafer PLEASE. I want to say more but character limit exceeds after this sentence! Dr Shafter is the best! THANK U, my before were round beady stained yellow and metal teeth EVERYWHERE. Dr Shafer did all of that!

After many years of poor dentistry I was referred to Hawaiian Smiles by a friend. After several months of major work i am smiling again. Dr. Shafer and staff have been wonderful to work with and have done a beautiful job on my teeth. They are all such caring wonderful people. I have had so many compliments. I will definitely refer them to friends in the future. I can't say enough good about all of them. Thank you all again for everything!

I called due to a portion of a crown had chipped off. Lori got me in right away. Luckily it was not an urgent issue. Had to have my teeth cleaned as well. Paula did a great job and was helpful with some tips for flossing. Finding a dentist one can trust is not easy. I am glad to be able to have Good Life and the team for my dental care.

I have avoided going to the dentist for a very long time. I was physically anxious for my appointment and Stephanie, my Hygienist, was gentle and disarming and very much put me at ease. Dr Shafer, for his part, kept it all very positive and upbeat. They use modern imaging technology so he was able to show me some things about my teeth that I never knew and recommended a care plan that is straightforward and comfortable. At no point in my visit was there any shame, pressure or negativity of any kind. Without a doubt, I've never been to a dentist like this one!
