Ever since he can remember Dr. Gerkin developed a keen interest and a knack for taking things apart and putting them back together,with a curiosity for understanding how various things work. It is a skill that was passed on to him by his Father who was a captain with the US Airforce and then a pilot for American Airlines.
When in Highschool and in recognizing this skill, his family dentist suggested to look into the dental profession as a possible career path. Dr. Gerkin graduated from the University of Utah earning a Bachelor of Science in Biology degree. Then moved to Dallas, Texas where his family was stationed and earned his doctorate of dental surgery degree from Texas A&M School of Dentistry (Formerly Baylor College of Dentistry). It was there that he met his wife Dr. Mary Carmen Esteso. Both enjoy a deep connection to the area and recently decided to merge their separate practices into one.
Dr. Gerkin graduated in 1995 and Dr. Esteso graduated in 1994, they both developed the mission to provide the best dental care in a relaxed yet professional environment as a result they prides themselves on establishing long-term relationships with their patients and feel so fortunate to have been able to care for generations of several families. Their dedication is recognized by loyal patients and staff that have remained involved with the practice for all these years.

Dr. Gerkin is very professional and gentle, yet very skillful at all the procedures I had there. I've been going to this dentist for several years now. My complaint is the hygienists there. I had good experience with the hygienists until maybe a year ago. They changed my hygienist (not sure why; maybe she left) then the new hygienist talked way too much during the teeth cleaning, making me uncomfortable when I needed to respond to her with mouth occupied. I also overheard several times in the office that other staff complaining about her; seems like it's not a very harmonious environment anymore. Red flags; but I was too lazy to change my dentist so I ignored. Today I went in and a different hygienist worked on my teeth cleaning. She was really rusty during the procedure, hurting my gum really bad, esp with her dental scaler. Not sure this is considered normal to other patients there or not, but my gum was hurting even several hours after I left the office. Had to take ibuprofen to be able to eat later. This is enough. I'm never coming back.

Always charges you an extra $30 for each visit even though a standard check up and cleaning is supposed to be fully covered by insurance (twice a year for my plan).

I have been going to Dr. Gerkin for a long time and have had nothing but great experiences. I do want to point out on issue I recently had just so others follow up. I received a reminder postcard in the mail in April that it was time to schedule my routine cleaning. I called and got an appt for early May. Went to my appt and left a happy customer. Yesterday I received a bill that I owed the full balance. When I called to inquire I was told my insurance (which has not changed in years) rejected the charges due to my appt being before the allowed date. My insurance only covers every 6 months and it has to be on the exact date or after and my appt was before. When I asked why I would receive a reminder postcard and why wouldn't the person who made my appt check the date when I called to make the appt, the lady basically said "sorry". I expected better customer service especially based on Dr. Gerkin's professionalism and long standing business. It was disappointing. After I called back to ask for a manager, the manager then discussed it with the doctor and gave me a discount on the services since it was their mistake. And I voiced that in the future it would be nice when an error is made to just talk it through with the patient instead of making it seem like it is their fault. It's good to remember to inquire before you book your appt. and check the dates and eligibility in case. As for Dr. Gerkin's ability as dentist, he is excellent. I am hoping this was just an honest mistake and a one time thing.

Dr Gerkin is professional and most importantly, gentle with teeth! I've not had pain during any of my procedures. Staff is very friendly, and you know how much your out of pocket costs will be before you book it. A great dentist all around! Would highly recommend!
