A family dentist serves patients of most ages, addressing their different oral health needs as they grow older. Patients can keep seeing the same family dentist or the same group of family dentists for decades. Family dentist practices function as primary care dentists and treat family members such as parents, children, and grandparents.

Family dentists work with both children and adults to care for these patients as they grow and change. These dentists emphasize patient involvement by providing accessible, continuous, patient-centered, and comprehensive care. The hallmarks of many family dentistry practices include services that benefit patients at all stages of life, such as:

Family dentists make a point of getting to know their patients. They encourage regular checkups and catch emerging issues such as cavities. They provide continuity of care even if patients do not see the same professional on each visit. Information such as medical histories, diagnoses, and treatment plans are less likely to fall through any cracks. Centralized paperwork and familiarity with medical history also help dentists pinpoint and treat various oral health issues.

A family dentist can practice alone, but some partner with other dentists. Whatever the case, a family dentist treats various needs. Patients often turn to their family dental practice for checkups, cleanings, cavity prevention and treatment, tooth decay deterrence, and gum disease prevention. Some practices may even provide orthodontic services, cosmetic dentistry, pediatric dentistry, and other types of specialized dentistry. When necessary, family dentists refer patients to specialized dentists for other types of treatment.

A patient's first visit to a family dentist will consist of a thorough physical examination to assess their needs and current dental health. This will involve a dental exam and updated X-rays. X-rays are particularly essential as they can diagnose and evaluate any potential issues that an exam cannot detect. GK Dental PC will also perform a thorough dental cleaning as part of the first visit. Then, once completed, our team will discuss any X-ray results and devise a customized treatment plan to meet each patient's unique needs.

A. Family dentists treat most ages, caring for both children and senior citizens. If the practice includes a pediatric dentist, it might accept infant patients. Otherwise, a family dentist tends to see children once they are in kindergarten.

A. Most likely, yes. However, if the cavity is severe enough, family dentists may need to refer patients elsewhere for more specialized care. Regular checkups with your family dentist can help prevent cavities.

A. In general, each patient should visit once or twice a year. Dentists prefer to see children every six months. Meanwhile, adults with teeth in excellent condition might visit only once a year. People who are pregnant, undergoing chemotherapy, or dealing with serious health issues may need to visit their dentist more frequently than twice a year. We can help determine your unique risk profile.

By visiting us as soon as possible, our team can help get you the professional treatment you need. Instead of waiting around and allowing the symptoms to get worse, we can provide you with treatment options.

Filling cavities is one of many services that a family dentist provides. Cavities are holes in teeth that occur due to tooth decay. However, if the decay is caught early, it may be possible to reverse it before a cavity forms. Understanding how and why tooth decay happens may make it easier to learn how

A family dentist such as GK Dental PC can help individuals figure out the cause of bad breath and perform appropriate treatments. There are many products out there that are aimed towards freshening bad breath such as mints, mouthwashes and sprays. Most of these products only mask the bad smells coming from the mouth.Having bad

Help children learn proper dental hygiene habits at a young age and receive a dental checkup in one visit. As a family dentist, we understand how difficult it can be to juggle multiple dental checkups for your kids, school, work and getting dinner on the table. Fortunately, we can schedule multiple checkups back to back for

While many parents remind their children and ensure that they brush their teeth on a regular basis, children need professional dental care at a dentist. Along with specialized care toward children, there are also other steps parents can take to ensure their children have healthy teeth. As a family dentist, we suggest taking the following

Dr. Kour is the best! I just had extensive work done over the summer and she was there through it all. She's honest and upfront about treatments. She also gives options. She's super compassionate and aware during procedures. Michelle and the rest of her staff are great! Knowledgeable, speedy, and funny. All in all, they have ridden my fear of the dentist!

Switched from D2 Dental in Malden. The setting here is more of an informal feel. I don't like dentists in general, but this office seems to be one of the ones that I actually don't mind going. Emily at the front desk is helpful and Dr. Kaur and Dr. Chow are awesome. I am getting an invisalign treatment here soon!

Terrible policy's after paying in advanced.(Their family plan) had the first cleaning visit. Then 8 months later they closed or stopped doing cleaningCovid related I understand that and agree then they give me an appointment for today and when I'm in the chair I'm told that program I paid for expired even though they weres shutt down for that very service andd didn't give me my appointment till now. I will never return. To top it off charged me $411.00 for cleaning and a couple x rays which I said I didn't need since they did them last visit. On my way out they tried selling me that same family plan. Unbelievable

As a new patient, I felt completely at ease with Dr. Kour and her staff. Everyone was so welcoming and friendly which made the whole experience so much better. I got a fantastic cleaning from the hygienist, Michelle, who takes the time to get to know you instead of jumping right into the cleaning. It definitely made me feel more comfortable being at the dentist. I highly recommend this office!
