Dr. Gilliam, a dental professional for over 26 years, is known widely within the community, and has also established business and personal relationships throughout the United States. In addition to providing excellent dental care to his valued patients, Dr. Gilliam enjoys and promotes establishing close, personable relationships with his patients. He is a dentist who truly cares about the entirewell-being of his patient, not just his specialty, dentistry.
Dr. Maxwell Gilliam grew up in Windsor, North Carolina. He attended MorehouseCollege in Atlanta, Georgia until he completed his undergraduate studies in 1982. He subsequently attended postgraduate studies at Howard University, Washington, D.C., and received his Doctorate of Dental Surgery in 1987. Upon graduation, Dr. Gilliam participated inmobile dental teams treating elderly individuals with limited access to dental facilities in Eastern and Central North Carolina. He then moved to back to Baltimore, MD where he practiced within the John Hopkins dental systemproviding care for the underserved. In 1992, he relocated toNorth Carolinawhere he began his private dental practice in Jacksonville.
Dr. Gilliam stays abreast of all the latest and progressive dental practices and new technologies. He continually participates in specialized training so that he can provide his patients the very best in oral healthcare services. He is extremely grateful to provide Cerec/Cadcam services to his patients. These services allow for same day ceramic restorations that are more durable than conventional composite restorations. In addition to same day services, Dr. Gilliam also provides TMJ, endodontic, and periodontal therapy.
A board-certified specialist pediatric dentist, Dr. Connie Bruce-Gilliam is a lively and energetic person- enjoying walking, biking, and yoga almost every day. Dr. Bruce is an ardent reader of all types of literature and loves lively book club discussions. She loves spending time and vacationing with her family- two lovely daughters and her husband- Dr. Maxwell Gilliam, General Dentist.
Outside of dentistry, Dr. Connie loves the color green! Whether its a social function with her AKA sorority (go pink and green!), or caring for her live indoor plants, and outside flower garden- Dr. Connie is constantly engaged in some fun, extracurricular activity.
She inspires and uplifts children in and out of the office. She teaches Sunday School and believes in the importance of mentoring and motivating young people. Gilliam Dentisty normally sponsors activities such as debutante balls, scholarship programs, and cheerleading camps.
Dr. Bruce has been a pediatric dentist for over 25 years. Her ambitious pursuits in the field has included receiving the prestigious title of Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry, an honor awarded to an elite group of pediatric dentists whom have met and surpassed the academic requirements of excellence in the field.
Above all, Dr. Connie Bruce is an endearing and compassionate supporter of the younger, growing generation. She has found her lifes work and passion in the field of pediatric dentistry where she continues to warmly nurture the future leaders of our world!

Dr. Connie Bruce participates with the Missions of Mercy for the underserved citizens of North Carolina. Dr. Connie Bruce is the primary consultant for Carobell, a caring facility which oversees the daily life activities for persons with developmental disabilities. Dr. Connie Bruce also serves a provider and educator for the Early Headstart Program of Onslow County. Our office provides dental education through fun dental skits at daycare facilities, schools, and even Mom and social groups. We happily participate in local community health fairs in hopes of educating and promoting excellent oral health habits.
Gilliam Dentistry contributes to numerous non-profit organizations such as the March of Dimes, American Cancer Society, and the American Kidney Fund. We proudly volunteer with the Missions of Mercy (M.O.M) program and the Baptist Mens Association which provides dental services for those in need at no cost. Dr. Connie Bruce presides as the A.K.A Sorority, Inc. Scholarship Chairperson. Annually scholarships are presented to deserving high school students based on academic integrity, and extracurricular activities within the community.
Gilliam Dentistry is an annual sponsor for Onslow County High Schools Project Graduation, and the St. Julia AMEZ After School and summer programs. Dr. Connie Bruce is a member of the Quality Control Council for Onslow County Board of Education. Dr. Maxwell and Dr. Connie Bruce both enjoy mentoring students- providing information and helping them to obtain careers in dentistry.
Our wonderful, multi-service, dental practice accommodates patients from birth and then throughout adulthood. Routine office visits begin at age one. These two are fantastic he's funny and he explains everything to you in a funny way and it takes away all your fears I had a phobia of dentist and he's the only one I will go to he's awesome the female his wife, is fantastic with kids I have an 8 year old autistic son and he loves her so yeah they are fantastic and their staff is very nice

I was told my 10 year old son needed 6 baby teeth pulled for emergency reasons due to incoming adult teeth. I understood that 2 were important to pull. We had 1 appointment for 2 teeth to be pulled out and I confirmed with the assistant but the dentist pulled 3. The next appointment they didn't wait long enough for the laughing gas to work and my son felt all of the pain and not just pressure. The third appointment he was already terrified to go because he said the dentist was rough and didn't listen to him. I asked him to go through with it as it was his last (sixth tooth total) to be pulled. I get to the appointment and I'm told he has 2 teeth total to be pulled (1 more was added with a total of 7). I told the assistant only 1 tooth was being pulled. He went back and had an anxiety attack, as he already has high anxiety, and the dentist did not comfort him. The assistant was wonderful and tried to talk to him but he did not want the dentist to pull his teeth. He asked for another person to pull his tooth.After an hour he was in tears from refusing getting it pulled. I'm later told its just a cosmetic thing and it's not necessary. When at first I was told it was an urgent to get them pulled. My son later told me that the dentist said "she could wait all day because she was getting paid" and he had brought a book from home and she just took it without asking for him to hand it over. One star is not worthy for my sons traumatic experience. We will not be going back.

I've been coming to Gilliam dentistry since I was a little girl , the staff have become more like family to me.,Always helping me even when I struggle . I bring my little girls now because I know they will get the best treatment possible with the best team around. They love going to see everyone and always have a great time while there .

I have been going here ever since I was a teenager and now my son goes here. This is a great place to go take care of your teeth and the best dental care. The professionalism and friendliness of the whole team is outstanding. Every visit is like visiting friends. I couldn't be happier with the results for myself and my son. I would highly recommend this dental place for kids and adults!!!

Had our first visit today, everybody was so nice and welcoming UNTIL we met the Dr. Gilliam. She came off as very rude. Treated us as if we were stupid. When my husband had asked a question, we felt like she was making us feel dumb. I did not feel comfortable and it was only our first visit. Will not be coming back again. For a pediatric dentistry you would think she would be more nicer.

The VA got it right with this one!!! I went and got some major work done after falling the wrong way and hitting my mouth. They got me all the way right with the Love & Hip Hop smile After I saw how amazing they were I got my daughter in the doors as well. We've been going here for a Few years now and I will always recommend this office. They have the original Pac-Man also lol My daughter loves Mrs Connie and Mr Dr Gilliam is hilarious. The vibe is so comfortable and professional.

Dr. Connie Gilliam is one of the best dentist offices here in town. Her staff is very polite and courteous. Great atmosphere for your children as well. She is very knowledgeable and professional about her job and does care about your child/children's teeth. Dentistry is truly her passion. She is an awesome person to get know so is her staff. My children have been going here for 18+ years and we have never had any problems. I would refer her to anyone I know who is looking for a great dentist. She does an excellent and great job!

My now 9 year old daughter received dental care with Dr.Bruce in 2019. In 2020 she was seen at an emergency dentist in Florida due to an abscess that had formed on a crowned tooth done by Dr.Bruce, the tooth was then pulled as the infection had formed under the crown and was spreading. We were informed by the emergency dentist that the work was likely done poorly as this should not have happened. In the summer of 2022 my daughter informed us that one of her other crowns had fallen out in her sleep but had thrown the crown away because at the time she didn't recognize what it was. She mentioned to us that she still experienced pain in this tooth and we immediately scheduled an appointment at Gilliam to have it addressed. Come to find out there was decay in the previously crowned tooth which we thought had been taken care of previously. To us it seems that crowns were placed over decay without properly addressing the health of the teeth. Possibly to receive more money from insurance and clients? Because of this we needed to return to have the half done work fixed and pay additional out of pocket costs. When speaking with insurance we were also informed crowns have a guaranteed 5 year life and if properly done will and should last. We voiced our concerns but informed Dr.Bruce that we didn't believe it would be right to charge us the $1200 more she quoted us to correct work that clearly was not done correctly and additional work she didn't need, including attempting to charge insurance again for sealants that we already had placed on her teeth elsewhere in April of 22. After speaking more we agreed to pay the $40 discussed via telephone with the receptionist prior to the appointment & Dr.Bruce did agree to that, thankfully. Our fear is that we are not done having this work corrected as our daughter has other crowns that were done by Dr.Bruce and we have no way of knowing exactly what could be unfolding underneath of them, only time will tell. As a parent I cant bring myself to trust this establishment again, although I am glad they rectified the situation, I'm still very weary of what other issues could pop up in the future regarding the past work that was done. For that reason I do recommend researching other pediatric/family dentists for your own family.

I have been taking my kids here for about 7+ years. I love the fact you can get a timely appointment. They also send reminders via text, email, and phone calls. No way to forget. My kids are varing she's, and love the child like atmosphere. They can be big kids going in the back by themselves, and knowing they have fun activities to make the dentist office visit a pleasure and not something to be scared of.

My children have been going here since my 15yr old was a toddler. Always been a great experience. Even when my oldest hit a tooth and it started to turn grey. They got us in right away, gave us instructions to follow to save the tooth, and continued to follow up for several weeks to assess the situation. It healed thankfully and never required anything else. The dentist is firm, but very good. Very caring staff.

This place isn't unprofessional when it comes to handling children. And to top it all off my son came out mad and told me in a low tone " don't every bring me back here " and I ask him why. He didn't say anything until hours later stating " she pulled my hair so hard I cried " and my son doesn't cry so I was very angry at the fax that she even did this to my son.. I regret taking my kids every and every time back to this place, as of today I'm looking to another dentist office who will handle my kids with respect and care for them so in my view I won't be coming back.

Mrs Bruce-Gilliam takes extremely excellent care of our kids at Gilliam Dentistry. She and her staff are super friendly and honest. They also take care of adult's. My kids have been seen here for about six years. Give them a call for a great start to a great smile.

Dr. Connie is fantastic. The staff is friendly and polite, making the atmosphere calm and relaxing for pediatric patients. We have been seeing her for years, and we are always leaving with super clean teeth and smiles. She is very knowledgeable with dental applications and helped break a finger sucking habit. My child looks forward to every dental visit.
