Dr. G. holds a BS in Chemistry from St. John's University and received a degree as a Doctor of Dental Surgery from Fairleigh Dickinson University. He has been practicing dentistry since 1970. He is a member of the Massachusetts Dental Society, the American Dental Association, and the Metropolitan District Dental Society.
Dr. Joe holds degrees from the University of Pennsylvania (B.A.) and Tufts University School of Dental Medicine (D.M.D.). He has been practicing dentistry since 1999. He is a member of the American Dental Association, the Massachusetts Dental Society, and the New England Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry. He is a scholar at the Dawson Center for Continuing Dental Education.
Dr. Sarah Shih is a board certified periodontist who has been practicing since 1987. She is a clinical instructor at Harvard Dental School of Dental Medicine and holds degrees from University of California, San Francisco (DDS), Baylor (MS) and Harvard (DMSc). Dr. Shih is a member of the American Dental Association, American Academy of Periodontology, International Congress of Oral Implantologists and International Bone and Mineral Society. She has published several research articles and texts. She has lectured both locally and internationally. Dr Shih is also an editorial reviewer for the Journal of Periodontology.
Dentures, bridges, and partial dentures are no longer the only way to restore a mouth that has few restorable teeth or no teeth at all. Dental implants are tooth root substitutes that are surgically placed in the jaw bone and act as anchors to stabilize artificial teeth. These strategically placed supports can be used to support a single tooth, a bridge, and even a denture. While the initial investment tends to be greater, the implant supported teeth and dentures will more closely resemble the 'feel' of real teeth. The benefit of using implants is that they don 't rely on neighboring teeth for support. They are permanent and stable. Dental implants are becoming the alternative of choice but not everyone is a candidate for implants.

Your initial visit with us includes a cleaning, a clinical examination, a periodontal tooth charting, and x-rays which together provide information about the patient's smile and help us to formulate a diagnosis and treatment plan.
WHITENING Teeth whitening is a safe and effective way to brighten stained, discolored, or dull teeth. Our GLO system may be all that is needed to reverse the effects of time in under an hour. Another option is our home whitening system to create results in 2 weeks. Tooth whitening is most effective if your teeth are darkened from age, coffee & tea, or smoking. Teeth discolored in yellow, brown or orange shades respond better to whitening treatment. Unfortunately, while gray stains caused by fluorosis or tetracycline can be lightened, the results can be less than satisfactory.
CROWNS AND VENEERS Crowns - Crowns also known as 'caps' are typically used to restore a tooth 's function and appearance when decay has infected large portions of the tooth. Crowns are also used to anchor bridges, cover implants, and support cracked teeth. A crown can serve an esthetic purpose and is applied to a discolored or stained tooth to help restore its natural appearance. Crowns can be made in all porcelain or porcelain fused to a metal substructure.
Proper homecare and regular dental cleanings are essential to prolong the life of a crown. It is very important to floss in the area of the crown to avoid bacterial buildup around the restoration. Certain behaviors such as jaw clenching or bruxism (teeth grinding), may significantly shorten the life of a crown. Eating brittle foods, ice, or hard candy can compromise the adhesion of the crown and also damage it.
Veneers - Special thin porcelain laminates, called veneers, can often be used to correct discolored, worn, cracked, and chipped teeth. A veneer can reverse years of staining caused by foods, drinks, and tobacco use. They can also be used to close gaps between teeth. Veneers are not recommended for those who clench or grind their teeth.

This is the best dentist office I have ever visited. The whole staff is wonderful from the front desk to the hygienists to Dr. Joe. I appreciate that this is an office that feels welcoming and comfortable. Dr. Joe is great at explaining what he is doing, talking you through your visit, and not rushing any questions. I moved out of Boston recently, but still make my appointments here when I'm in town for work because I've never had a better dentist experience.

Dr Joe has been my dentist for 20 years and I wouldn't dream of going anywhere else! He is very thorough, explains every procedure, has a gentle hand when administering Novocain & is a genuinely sweet human, all things you would want from your dentist! I never dread going to the dentist bc the moment I walk in, I am welcomed like family. The ladies at the front desk are just dolls! The hygienists are extremely proficient. They clean your teeth with so much care taking as much time as necessary. Elizabeth, Tina, & Dawn always remember you & do their best to clean with ease. The Dental Assistants are also very skilled. While Dr Joe is my primary dentist I've seen his dad, Dr G several times over the years. He just warms my heart & also gives good Novocain! He always pops his head in to say hello when I'm there, just so sweet. The whole vibe is just pleasant & who says the dentist is pleasant? I've had countless laughs sitting in the chair, again who says that at the dentist! I've never had a bad experience regardless of who is working on my teeth or what is being done. I stumbled on to Dr Joe when we lived in the North End & I'm so thankful I did! Thanks Dr Joe for keeping my teeth healthy & happy! You would be crazy not to give them a try. You'll thank me later!

I would absolutely recommend this place especially for anyone with severe dental anxiety. After getting major restorative care done and my previous dentist retiring , mixed along with previous bad experiences with dentists since then, I finally decided to overcome my fear with Dr. Giangrasso and I am so happy I did. His entire staff, from receptionists to the dental hygienists, we're incredible. They took their time with lots of patience and kindness for me to have a positive experience. I look forward to coming back here and would recommend it to anyone and everyone!

Dr Giangrasso is as welcoming as he is talented. I've been going to Dr G for almost 10 years, despite recently moving out of the city I refuse to change dentists due to the level of care and expertise. His staff is equally warm, knowledgeable, and professional.

I would ABSOLUTELY recommend Dr. Giangrasso and his team and believe he's the best dentist in the city. He's warm, inviting, and genuinely cares about his patients. I've gotten over a lifelong fear of the dentist with his help. The office is easy to get to and very clean and I can't say enough about his entire staff. Everyone is friendly and actually helpful in booking appointments.

I have been coming to Dr. Joe and team for over 5 years now. What has kept me coming back is the efficiency of the office, the kindness of the entire staff, and the exceptional care that I have to received. After years of considering it, I also took the plunge with Invisalign and I couldn't be happier with the results. Joe and team are my one stop shop for my dental care - from routine cleanings, the occasional filling, and cosmetic!

I switched dentists after going to Giangrasso Dental for about 6 years and have to have all 8 of the fillings I had here replaced. It's been less than 5 years for most of them. I remember being concerned about the black spots I was seeing around my fillings but I went every 6 months and figured if no one was mentioning it maybe it was just normal discoloration. I wish I had said something then. My new dentist said to me "Your previous dentist didn't catch this?" pointing out on the x-ray and in photographs of my teeth that there were deep cavities beneath the fillings. In replacing first two fillings I had to have a root canal, which cost about 2k out of pocket even with dental insurance. That sucks! I'm really disappointed these problems weren't caught by Giangrosso Dental. I'm really thankful I switched when I did, I just wish I had done it sooner.
