Dr. John Gerstenmaier is a Northeast Ohio native. He graduated from Cuyahoga Falls High School, received his bachelors degree from Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) and attended Northwestern University Dental School.

After graduating from Northwestern, Dr. John worked for the Indian Health Service a U.S. Department of Health and Human Services agency that provides healthcare to Native American and Alaskan Native peoples. During this period, he began to make connections that would shape the foundations for his own practice.

After spending two years treating children in the Indian Health Service, Dr. John decided the time had come for him to pursue further education on treating children. He completed a two-year CWRU pediatric dentistry program. In 1975, he founded Gerstenmaier Pediatric Dentistry to provide dental care to children, adolescents, families and adults with special needs throughout Northeast Ohio.

Dr. John was named Ohio Dental Associations Distinguished Dentist of 2005. He has maintained membership in a number of prominent organizations, including: the American Dental Association, American College of Dentists, Academy of Dentistry for the Handicapped, Pierre Fauchard Academy, International College of Dentists and the Ohio Dental Association. He also served as chairman of the Ohio Dental Association Foundation and the Steering Committee of Dental Options. Dr. John is the Director of the Pediatric Dentistry Division of Akron Childrens Hospital.

Dr. John volunteers with the Beacon Journal Charity Fund to give back to the community. He enjoys golf, sailing and old cars. Now joined by his son, Dr. Jack Gerstenmaier, Dr. John and his team are committed to giving children positive dental experiences from day one.

Jack H. Gerstenmaier graduated from Walsh Jesuit High School in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. After completing his bachelors degree in chemistry from the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts, he began working for SRU Biosystems, Inc. a global provider of label-free detection tools used in drug discovery and life sciences research. But after four and a half years, he began to feel the need for something more meaningful.

Jack previously helped his father, Dr. John Gerstenmaier, on the weekends as a dental assistant. He quickly realized there had to be something satisfying for his father to be practicing for so long. Influenced by the level of satisfaction he saw his father receive from working with patients, Jack knew he wanted more than just a job he wanted an opportunity to change lives.

Jack returned to his fathers practice, not as a dental assistant like when he was younger, but as an equal. And the transition into this new partnership was surprisingly smooth a father and son sharing ideas and coming up with the best solution for each patient, together.

Jack has been heavily involved in numerous dentistry-oriented research projects throughout his academic and professional careers. Jack has also participated in several community-focused initiatives. From 2010 to 2012, he served as a Pediatric Dental Resident providing dental care on the Ronald McDonald Care Mobile. During that same time, he provided dental screenings through the Head Start Outreach Program. In June 2008 and 2009, Jack volunteered for the Special Smiles Program, in which he provided oral examinations to athletes participating in the Special Olympics.

In October 2008, Jack was an ASDA representative in the Boo Bag Project, in which he presented dental-friendly gift bags to children in Rainbow Babies and Childrens Hospital. He has also been a participant in the annual Give Kids A Smile Day event from 2009 to 2012.

Jack received his Certificate in Pediatric Dentistry and Doctor of Dental Medicine degree from the School of Dental Medicine at Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) in Cleveland, Ohio, where he served as a Dental Simulation Teaching Assistant. He also served as a Pediatric Dental Resident and Chief Resident at Rainbow Babies and Childrens Hospital at CWRU.

From day one, the highly trained and experienced Gerstenmaier Pediatric Dentistry team provides energetic and fun-loving service to every family and child who comes into our office. We want you to feel right at home the moment you first arrive, and were committed to putting your childs needs first. In all that we do, our team provides the right treatment with the highest level of care when your child needs it most. All team members regularly attend continuing education courses and seminars on radiography, CPR and OSHA guidelines. This means that when you want the best pediatric dentistry care possible, Gerstenmaier is the place to be.

My experience has been terrible! I only have this dentist office 1 star because I could not give a zero! The receptionist is one of the most rude people I have ever met! She must hate her job, she is so mean and unpleasant. As for the dentists...I am completely frustrated. My daughter had a tooth filled in December 2021, 3 weeks later, she has an abscess on the gum above the tooth and she had filled 3 weeks ago. We went to get the tooth looked at yesterday and they told me the tooth wasn't filled in it's entirety, that is frustrating it's self! They drilled her tooth, put some cotton and medicine in the tooth, sealed it and told us to come back February 25th!!! I took her to a new dentist today, she had to have the tooth removed because it was dead. Why in the world would you send me away to come back a month later and fill a dead tooth! I do not feel like they are providing the best service e possible. Also, she has 5 other cavities that were not detected at her last appointment which was less than 6 months ago! I am MAD!!!

All 4 of my kids go here and the dentists are amazing. They did so well with my youngest son. He's autistic and doesn't like the dentist, but they kept their patience with him and did a great job. Only reason they aren't getting 5 stars is because of their receptionist. Shes so rude and has a horrible attitude. Something needs done about that! She acts like you're a major inconvenience to her because she has to do HER JOB!! I witnessed her talk to someone on the phone in a very rude manner and then put that person on hold and say "I can't deal with that right now" as she rolled her eyes. She's a very rude and bitter woman!!

Dentist seems pretty kid friendly only met him once though! My son was supposed to have an out patient surgery back in January and he ended up getting covid so they said they elwood call back in 4-6 weeks to reschedule and never did! I have tried calling and every time I call either noobe answers or the receptionist that does answer is very rude! Not sure why ppl work with the public if they don't like ppl or have no type of personality!! Wish they would find a new receptionist makes the place seem uninviting!!

Excellent dentist!!! We have been going to them for a couple years and it has been nothing short of amazing. You get to go back with your kids. They do all 3 of my kids at the same time AND my kids are NOT afraid of the dentist.

A father/son dr team, both dr's were incredibly kind and explained everything they were doing to the child in a way they could understand. My son's tooth was potentially needing a cap, but the dr wanted to make sure that was really necessary first. After cleaning the tooth out he determined it only needed a filling. Love that conservative approach when it seemed our previous dentist did as many billable procedures as they could get away with. Highly recommend this place after a really quick and pleasant experience.

They are a dentist office that cares. They try to prevent your child's fears. They are great with kids who have special needs.
