One of seven children, Dr. Cuomo was raised in upstate New York where he was exposed to the beauty of nature and art at a young age. He learned the nuances of charcoal and pastels in high school, then honed his artistic skills in ceramic arts while earning a BA degree in Chemistry from Florida Atlantic University. It was while at FAU that he decided to blend his artistic skills with medicine and chose dentistry as a career. He moved to Chicago where he earned his dental degree from Northwestern University Dental School in 1984. Following graduation, he moved back to Florida and has been practicing in south Florida ever since.
As a practicing dentist, Dr. Cuomo recognized the need to perform dentistry at a higher level. In 2002, he designed a dental microscope system which is in place at his office as well as other offices and dental labs. An innovator in his field, Dr. Cuomo teaches, lectures, and publishes articles on the benefits of microscopic dentistry. With all these accomplishments, what Dr. Cuomo enjoys most is improving patients smiles and educating patients about their dental health. Dr. Cuomo is also the executive director of the Pre-Dental Mentorship Program at Florida Atlantic University. He created and teaches a 10-week course which allows students to engage in an interactive dental experience before making the decision to pursue their dental career. He has touched, and continues to touch, the lives of many pre-dental students and thoroughly enjoys giving back to his alma mater. Dr. Cuomos ongoing support for this program, lead to his receiving the Distinguished Alumni Award from FAU in 2012.
Happily married to his wife, Phyllis, for over 30 years, Dr. Cuomo is the proud father of three grown children--twin boys and a daughter--and grandfather 'Pop' to three grandchildren. Dr. Cuomos love of art still runs strong. When hes not crafting beautiful smiles, he enjoys throwing clay on the wheel and watching pottery take shape in his hands. He also loves capturing the beauty of nature in photography, loves sports (especially baseball), and spending time with family.
Gail has been working as a hygienist for Dr. Cuomo since he began practicing in Boca Raton in the late '80s. She loves befriending her patients, many of whom have been seeing her regularly for many years. She enjoys seeing the beautiful results of Dr. Cuomo's skilled care and using the trusting relationships she builds with patients to help them obtain optimal oral health for life. A native of Pompano Beach, Florida, Gail completed her dental hygiene education at Palm Beach Community College. She has additional training in oral cancer screening, root planing and curettage, nutrition and diet, effects of oral health on systemic health, dental implants, home dental health care, and periodontal disease prevention.
Gail is the proud mother of her son, Tim, and daughter-in-law, Melissa. She also loves being 'GG' (Grandma Gail) to her grandson. She enjoys traveling, going to the gym, staying healthy, and focusing with prayer and meditation.
Mayra joined the Cuomo team in May of 2017. She graduated with her dental hygiene degree from the University of Nebraska in 2004 and loves her chosen profession. She enjoys getting to know each patient and taking care of their individual dental needs. Mayra's friendly, upbeat personality make patients feel welcome and her gentle and caring manner makes patients feel at ease. She has been a wonderful addition to our dental team.
Mayra is a Florida native and grew up in Miami. She is happily married to her husband, Kevin, and is a loving mother to their two fun-loving and adventurous children, Natalia and Xander. In her spare time, Mayra enjoys yoga, biking, reading (especially biographies), magic, and experiencing new adventures with her family.
A native of Kiev, Ukraine, Viktoria studied at the College of Economics and Planning. She moved to the United States in 1975 from the Soviet Union and considers America her home. Viktoria is happily married and spends time with her husband and their two sons. She enjoys art, history, travel, reading, cinema, antiquing, and decorating.
