Since most patients are uneasy about visiting, our staff makes sure to provide every patient with a kind and caring attitude. We are here to discuss any of your concerns, and we do our best to tailor every treatment to your needs, wants, and desired outcome.
Dr. Michael S. Blackwood has been specializing in orthodontics since 1994. He is a third-generation orthodontist in the practice began by his grandfather and his father Thomas. He began his higher education by studying at Washington & Lee University in Lexington, Va., graduating with a bachelors degree in chemistry. He then went on to Medical College of Virginia/Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Va., and earned his doctorate of dental surgery degree. Finally, Dr. Blackwood attended University of Detroit Mercy where he earned his specialty degree in orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics and a master of science.
Dr. Blackwood grew up in Potomac, Md., where he and his wife, Heidi, raised two sons. When not in the office he enjoys hiking and camping with his family. For many years he has coached middle school soccer and lacrosse.
Dr. Blackwood says, I truly enjoy practicing orthodontics and creating beautiful smiles. Every time I see my patients, I am pleased to know that I am helping them achieve the ideal smile they have always wanted. The best thing about being an orthodontist is building personal relationships with each patient. I meet such talented and gifted young adolescents, fascinating and remarkable adults, and wonderful families. At the end of treatment, it is amazing to see how a transformation in an individuals smile has such a positive change in that persons overall attitude and confidence.

We love Georgetown orthodontics! Dr Blackwood, Heidi and their team are amazing. I have never experienced this level of customer service from a medical practice. Just today, he offered to see my son on a weekend to fix a broken wire. Can't recommend them highly enough!

Absolutely LOVE Georgetown Orthodontics! Professional, knowledgeable and incredibly personable. Dr. Blackwood takes his time with each client, answering questions and ensuring you feel included in your plan care. He is also fantastic at working with children; ensuring they feel safe and heard. Additionally, Mrs. Blackwood made our initial visit smooth. She ensured I had all the information I needed and has been very responsive. 10/10 would recommend.

You will be very hard pressed to find a better orthodontist than Dr Blackwood. His skill level is unmatched. He and and his whole staff are first class professionals. They treat you as if you are their only patient. The Invisalign has been exactly as Dr. Blackwood said it would be. I'm thrilled with the results.

I was charged $7,000 for Invisalign, which is not what I needed. My goal was to reverse the bad orthodontic work previously done in high school (that guy pulled 4 perfectly healthy, permanent teeth to "make room in my mouth" instead of expanding). I was hoping Georgetown Orthodontics would reverse this but unfortunately they made my problem worse. I am now at Miami Designer Smiles, and in the process of reversing everything. Do your research and shop around before you commit to someone for this stuff.

Dr Blackwood and his team are a delight to work with. They are sincere, professional and always ready to fix a loose wire or ease discomfort from orthodontics. An added plus is that they are a small, family-run business offering a special personal touch. I highly recommend them!

They charged me $7,000 for INVISALIGN, and did the complete opposite of what needed to be done which was to reverse the bad orthodontic work I had done in high school. Instead, they made my smile worse. I am now in the right place in Miami, and in the process of reversing two poor orthodontic jobs. I needed a FAGGA device, braces and implants, and all they gave me was Invisalign. Do your research before you let someone mess with your face! Yes, correcting your teeth messes with the entire structure of your face. Choose wisely.

The entire staff here is AMAZING! Dr. Oliver and her team are so welcoming and knowledgeable. From the first day I walked in they have made me feel comfortable. Any questions that I had they were willing to take the time to answer them. What an amazing Orthodontics Office this is! They work with you as far as pricing! They have AMAZING DISCOUNTS but the BEST care! AND to all my MILITARY PEOPLE!! yes they are looking out for us!!

Since I was a kid, I've always hated my smile. I didn't like my crowded teeth and often got frustrated because of the way my teeth looked. When I walked into Dr. Oliver's office 2 years ago, I knew instantly that this office was loving and was encouraged by Dr. Oliver's positive feedback on my smile and the treatment that she had to get my teeth straightened. 2 years later I am out of my braces and sad that I won't have regular appointments, which were always a time to spend time with my ortho family. Thank you, Dr.Oliver, Ms. Bernie and the rest of the team for showing me love and patience during my treatment. I will miss all of you. Love you. I recommend everyone visit Dr. Oliver's office for all of you Ortho needs. She is the real deal and a great professional .

Had problems with them because of insurance issues. They overcharged me and I was annoyed because it took them 2 months to rectify the issue. This was the fault of the office manager. Other than that, Dr Oliver is great

I rarely write reviews but feel compelled to do so for Georgetown Orthodontics. Like a couple other recent reviews suggested, you may want to avoid this office. Based on a recommendation and that they are conveniently located, we tried so hard over two months to work with them and, ultimately, we were left with no choice but to go to another orthodontist. Our child was a transfer - we just moved back - and we needed an orthodontist to finish the treatment. They charged a $250 fee for a consult , which should have been a red flag, as the other three orthodontists we consulted did not charge anything (while chatting with one office, they said to be aware of anyone that charges a consult fee for anyone - transfer or not). After the consult, they never sent a quote or draft contract as promised based on what we discussed with Dr. Oliver. On at least five occasions, I spoke to the receptionist or left a message and was never called back. I even personally went to the office and was told Dr. Oliver and the finance specialist were both busy but they would call me back by noon. They never did call that day so I had to keep calling. We did finally get an appointment during which they wanted to take records, head scans, etc as a start to the treatment for a cost of $500. I explained I didn't want to start as they STILL had not given me an estimated cost for treatment. Why pay $500 for records, scans, etc if the cost is to high and we go elsewhere? They talked me into proceeding. Several weeks later, after many other attempts to reach them and begging for a contract, they gave me a quote almost twice as much as the other three orthodontists! This is just a couple examples of the issues we faced with this office. They, for example, also didn't get our insurance estimate right (they said we didn't have as much remaining coverage as we actually did) unlike the other three orthodontist offices. All three other orthodontists gave us an estimate within 24 hours after the free consult and determining the best course of action, were extremely responsive, and accurate in their accounting. Very professional unlike this office. The orthodontist that we went with even called us the evening of the first appointment to see how our child was doing! Night and day difference.
