No! Most gum recession is caused by tooth position relative to the jaw and not by over brushing! Take a look at the teeth in your own mouth. Those that are receding are most likely to be those that have been pushed closer to the lip or cheek (either grew that way or had to be placed there during orthodontic tooth movement). Look at the position of the teeth below and their recession. Generally, you did not cause the problem by over brushing!

My interests include my family, cycling, dirt biking, scuba diving, reading, travel, humanitarian opportunities, hiking (slot canyons in particular), photography (when I see an unknown number on my caller ID, I fantasize that National Geographic is calling to beg me to do the cover for their next issue), computers (Photoshop, Powerpoint), and I do love implants and periodontics!

Gums are very vital not only for the health of your mouth, but also for your overall health. They protect your skin, teeth and bones from injury and bacteria. Despite the popular belief, gum recession treatment is more than just a fix for a mere cosmetic concern. When this diseases is left untreated, it can cause loss of teeth, teeth sensitivity, root and bone decay and interrupt eating and smiling.

There are several causes for gum recession disease. Inherited traits such as thin gums and mal positioned teeth. Mal positioned teeth as a result of previous orthodontic treatment, clenching/grinding or by nervous habits that include putting foreign objects in your mouth contribute to the disease as well.

Make sure you properly brush and floss your teeth twice a day. When brushing your teeth use only ultrasoft toothbrushes. Make sure your bite is comfortable and has been adjusted if necessary. Consider orthodontic therapy to realign teeth to proper position. This is especially important because when your teeth are realigned to their proper position zone of gum tissue increases. Continue to wear night guard to reduce stress on your teeth while sleeping and lastly avoid putting foreign objects in your mouth.

I would give him 100 stars if I could! He is very professional, kind, gentle, skilled, and knowledgeable. You can tell he has had a lot of experience and is aware of each patient's needs. He also has a very friendly, nonjudgemental staff. I will recommend him to all that need his professional attention.

I recently went to Dr Bailey for a gum graft using the Pinhole Surgical Technique. I was very nervous at first but Dr Bailey was great and took great care of me while in his office. Sandy the receptionist is super nice and the assistant Shannon was very helpful as she gave me the post op instructions. Dr Bailey is a great Periodontist and I would highly recommend him to anyone.

No-one likes to see the dentist. It has always been my pleasure to go to their office. From the receptionist, dentist, hygienist, all are so friendly. I think the hygienist I saw the last two times was amazing. She was so very thorough and I come to Dr. Bailey's office just for cleanings every 3 months to make sure everything stays clean if I neglect doing all I know I should. Good man, good office, good care !!! I recommend them highly.

Dr. Bailey comes across as genuine and he seems to care about his practice and his patients and not about other things that could distract him from the well-being of those he helps.
