Gentle Family DentistryDr. KenRoberts is a lifelong resident of southeastern Michigan. Dr. Roberts attendedCentral Michigan Universityand theUniversity of Detroit School Of Dentistry, where he was awarded hisDDS Degree in 1984. As a strong advocate of post graduate education, Dr. Roberts believes it is very important to be educated on the latest advances and technology in dentistry. He regularly attends dental symposiums and conferences to stay abreast of the latest techniques and changes in the dental field.
Dr. Robertsand his wife, Val started their South Lyon practice together in 1991. For many years, it was truly a family affair. Dr. Roberts worked alongside Val, a Registered Dental Hygienist, and his motherJoanneworked the front desk.Dr. Roberts and Val havetwo children;a son, Adam, a recent graduate ofThe University of Michiganand a daughter, Emily, who is studying to become a teacher atEastern Michigan University.
As an avid sports fan,you may spot Dr. Roberts in Ann Arborfollowing his favorite Michigan team. A dedicated husband and fatherhe loves to spendtime with his familywater skiing, snow skiing,golfing, and playing hockey.
Dr. Roberts is passionate about creating a family environment with his office team and patients. The greatest enjoyment of his dental career has been having the opportunity to get to know his patients and their families over the many years. He likes totreateveryone like a part of his extended family, with kindness and compassion.

I was visiting from out of state and had a dental emergency. I called and left a message at night and got a call from the staff before the office even opened the next day. They fit me in and could not have been kinder. Dr. Sykes did an assessment and arranged for me to see an endodontist the same day after numbing my jaw to give me pain relief. Cody, the dental assistant was so kind and professional. They all went above and beyond, including the front office staff. Thank you all!!

I just had my first visit at Gentle Family Dentistry. Everyone was very friendly and informative. It was also very clean. I would definitely recommend them if you are looking for a good experience at the dentist.

Gentle Family Dentistry is absolutely amazing! My kiddos were so nervous to go to the dentist, but the entire staff worked so hard to make the experience not only comfortable, but enjoyable. I highly recommend this practice!

I have been going to Gentle Family Dentistry for 25 years now. I have never had a bad experience. Jeanie has been my hygenist for 21 years and she has always done a great job. Dr. Gates is very personable and I trust her when she tells me I need something more. My children have been going there since they were little and are now adults and came back as patients and one now even works there! I highly recommend them!!

Even though I moved away from the area, I continue to go to this office. Everyone there is friendly and attentive to my needs. I feel I am getting excellent care. My daughter also goes there and we are both happy. I highly recommend this office!

Dr. Gates and Dr. Shafer are wonderful. I'm a big baby about going to the dentist and they always make me feel relaxed and take their time. I would recommend them to everyone.

Gentle family dentistry is absolutely amazing. I can't say enough good things! The office staff and gentle hygienists are very helpful, kind, and professional. I was very nervous and hadn't been to the dentist in quite some time.. They do everything they can to make you feel comfortable. Dr. Shaffer is incredible. I had no pain during my procedure and felt very relaxed. She is very professional and skilled. I highly recommend this practice.

New to the area and needed a hometown dentist for myself and the Fam, A quick google search led me here. The place is clean and very nice, My hygienist Alexis was friendly, careful, thorough, and very professional. All in all, as pleasant as an experience can be, for a dentist visit. Highly recommend.

This was mostly an unexpected visit, for sure, in spite of my fears, the staff was very helpful. The tech was awesome and extremely supportive. Looking forward to getting healthier, grateful. Good quality care, if a little high-priced. I think they take X-rays a little too often, but you can refuse them if you want.

I have been with Dr. Gates since she took over Convenient Dental in Westland. I followed her to Brighton & then to South Lyon. I did this because she is just an Awesome dentist, She has done everything from fillings, to crowns, & a bridge. I never had any issues what so ever. If I had to give her a rating from 1 to 10, it would be 10+.
