Prior to dental school, Dr. Herlihey attended Knox College in Galesburg, IL. He was a double major in Chemistry and Economics. After graduation, he continued his education by attending Loyola Dental School from 1988-1992. During his time at dental school he received honors in Periodontics. Growing his skillset inhis craft as a dentist, in 2010 he attended the Six Month Smiles Short Term Orthodontics Program. This is on-going continuing education for Dr. Herlihey and the staff.
Outside of work Dr. Herlihey likes to stay active.He belongs to several ski and bike clubs, so you can find him skiing, cycling and running. He loves all three and participates in triathlons. Dr. Herlihey has even competed in Ironman. Ironman competitions are twice the distance of Olympic triathlons. He enjoys doing all of this with his family and they regularly attend these triathlon and Ironman competitions.
Dr. Alkassir has a passion for improving patients ' self esteem. He enjoys being at the office because it allows him to interact with patients and build relationships with family members. Nothing is greater to 'Dr. K' than the enjoyment of seeing the impact dentistry has on people 's lives.
Dr. Alkassir is a member of American Dental Association and the American Academy of Facial Esthetics(AAFE). He is also certified in treating TMJ and Orofacial pain in addition to administering botox and dermal fillers for facial esthetics.
Dr. K grew up in the Chicago southwest suburbs prior to joining Gentle Family Dentistry. Outside of the dental office, he likes to travel and explore new places. During his free time, you can probably catch him spending time with friends and family or playing tennis.
Here at Gentle Family Dentistry, we take our practice to the next level with a fully trained staff that offers orthodontics, endodontics, and periodontics services. We have extra time slots built into our schedules, allowing us to treat emergencies when you need it, and we also stay open until 7 p.m. on Mondays and Tuesdays.
Lori was introduced and interested in the dental field at a young age. As a child shehad a family friend that was a dental hygienist andencouraged Lori to become one too. When in the office she enjoys helping people achieve optimum dental health. Lori also loves her co-workers at Gentle Family Dentistry. She says, 'We are like family!'

Visiting family in Rockford and my crown fell out. Called and they gave me an appointment for the next day. They were actually closed at the time of my appointment but opened for me to get my tooth fixed and protected. They went out of their way to provide a patient focused delivery of service and were professional and friendly. I couldn't have been more pleased. Wish I lived here permanently because I would definitely want them for my regular dental care. The cost of service was affordable and the experience was great for me.

I was very disappointed of this place, I have an appointment for my 2 kids and myself and when we got there they just want to see 2 of us because they gave one of our appointments to someone else and they knew we drove from Freeport. When I try to talk to a manager or supervisor they completely ignored my request and I didn't have any more patience left on me and we leave without be seen, very bad experience!

I have been coming to Gentle Family Dentistry for almost 12 years. The hygienists and staff have always been so kind, professional, and helpful. You can always hear laughter, which is a good indication that they really do like working there. Liz, Lori and Tricia have all been there since I became a patient, and are the best. Dr. Alkassir is patient and makes sure to answer all of your questions. I absolutely recommend them to anyone and everyone.
