Dr. Sclater attended the University of Pittsburgh, School of Dental Medicine and graduated cum laude. While in dental school, she received an Army Health Professions Scholarship. She was commissioned into the Army while in dental school and served on active duty for 3 years. She had tours in South Carolina, Wurzburg, Germany and Virginia. She completed a one year general practice residency while stationed in South Carolina. Dr. Sclater served a total of eight years in the Army and received three medals, including the Army Commendation Medal and The Army Achievement Medal.
Dr. Sclater loves using Waterlasewhich allows our patients a dental experience that is virtually pain free and conservative. She embraces laser technology because she can use minimal, and in some cases even, no anesthetic or drills, to perform routine dental procedures. In addition, she feels CEREC technology has revolutionized her patient care...now she can give her patients beautiful porcealin restorations that are made in-office, usually in the same visit. Which means no more temporary crowns in most cases.
Dr. Sclater is certified in orthodontics and enjoys the cosmetic aspect of dentistry. She loves the joy it brings a patient when their smile is healthy and beautiful. Dr. Sclater is a member of the American Academy of Facial Aesthetics, Patuxent Dental Society, Maryland State Dental Association, Academy of General Dentistry and the American Dental Association. She is Allergan certified in Facial Aesthetics. Dr. Sclater is also AAFE trained and certified in BOTOX & dermal filler and frontline TMJ & orofacial pain. She is a former Maryland State Dental Association Vice President and was a PANDA trainer for four years.
Dr. Sclater is a Calvert County native, and strongly believes in local businesses supporting each other and the community. Dr. Sclater knew from a very young age that she wanted to become a dentist due to her frequent visits to the dentist - she spent four years in braces as a teen, and had braces a second time as an adult. Dr. Sclater enjoys her work and giving back to others. She loves visiting local schools for Career Day when she can.
At home, she loves to curl up with a good book and an excellent cup of coffee (she's a confessed coffee snob) or a small batch brew (she said she became a beer snob when she lived in Germany). She is an avid skier and loves to jet ski on the bay in the summer months. She rarely sits still...she's a go-go-go personality, and she loves a bargain! Dr. Sclater has been married to her husband Charlie for 25 years. Charlie is a MPT at Elite Care Physical Therapy in Chesapeake Beach. Their son, Cameron, is a college sophomore in Florida. Dr. Sclater loves to travel and she loved living in Germany when she was in the Army. And she thought Pittsburgh was a fantastic town when she lived there during dental school. Her dream retirement destination is Hawaii.
Anna Meyssami, D.D.S. is a Maryland native and a graduate of the University of Maryland School of Dentistry. She is very excited to be a part of the GFD team. Dr. Meyssami (MAY-SAMMY) has a passion for helping her patients achieve their healthiest and brightest smile through a patient-centered approachshe said this is what drew her to Calvert County and GFDs kind and caring dental family.
Dr. Meyssami demonstrates her caring personality with a gentle touch and attention to detail. She has a knack for art, which helps her navigate the artistic aspects of dentistry with an attentive eye and steady hand. Dr. Meyssami was in the prestigious Gorgas Odontological Honorary Society at the University of Maryland School of Dentistry and earned the Deans Research Award for her commitment to dental research throughout school.
Dr. Meyssami was born and raised in Maryland and loves every part of the Maryland lifestyle. Growing up, I loved the little family trips we made over to the Chesapeake Bay, finding shark teeth on the beaches and exploring the local shops and restaurants. It seems fitting that Ive ended up working just a fifteen minutes drive from the Bay!
When Dr. Meyssami isnt working, she usually spends time with family and friends, writing, or reading a book. She is the published author of a childrens fantasy book and she is currently writing a second book. Dr. Meyssami has been writing fiction as a hobby since grade school and her childrens book has earned several awards. Whenever she can get her hands on new arts and crafts materials, she is in her happy place. Dr. Meyssami likes to dabble in different forms of art, like sculpting, woodburning, and painting. When the weathers nice, youll find her doing any of the above outdoors, since she loves getting out and about in nature.
Melissa loves the challenge of managing a teamher knack for organization and her ability to thrive under pressure help her navigate the waters at GFD. Melissa worked for many years at a specialists office, and most recently at a multi-specialty practice. Melissa is excited to bring her skill set to GFD, and she loves the people you get to meet in the dental field. She began her career in the medical field as a medical assistant, but found dentistry is where her passion lies, and has developed that passion into a career.
Melissa adores her husband and three childrenshe cant get enough of them! When Melissa isnt in the office, this easy-going vegan tends to her 22 x 22 fruit and veggie gardenand you can also find Melissa savoring a cup of coffee and admiring her flower beds on the weekends.
Sam, as she's known around the office, is Gentle Family Dentistry's Financial Coordinator. She has been in the dental industry for 20 years. Sam is a wonderful patient advocate who strives to help a patient understand their benefits. She is happy to submit claims to reap the maximum benefit from your plan. Sam takes pride in being a problem-solver, and will answer questions for a patient at any time. Her knowledge of benefits is extensive, and she is a true asset to the practice.
Sam first came to Maryland when her spouse, who was then in the military, transferred to Maryland. Sam grew up in South Jersey, but she and her husband have come to love the Maryland lifestyle and decided to stay. And it really helps that there is a Jersey Mikes in Dunkirk now...it's like a little taste of home! Sam is always active. When not in the office, you will find Sam hiking, sewing, playing Xbox, or working on the latest home project with her husband. She loves rustic vacations that include hiking, mountains and pine trees...Colorado is a favorite travel destination of hers, but her trip to Banff takes the cake for her! And Sam recently had a baby...a beautiful boy! She'll have the mom/work balance down to a science in no time!
Siobhan is originally from Springfield, MA but moved to Maryland to be with her now husband, who is a military veteran. Yes thats right, we have added another military family to the GFD team! Siobhan has worked as an insurance coordinator for the last 6 years and with our team has proven her extensive knowledge of insurance breakdowns, which allows us to better serve our patients.
Siobhan is a recent newlywed and when she isnt working hard at GFD you can find her at home cleaning, cooking, and hanging out with her husband and pups Prim, Gunner, and Kissy. Siobhan has a soft spot for shelter animals, which is how she found Prim.
Brooke is from a military family, which is how she found Southern MD. She loves to support anything involving cancer causes or animalsthis is where her heart lies. The perfect weekend for Brooke is spending time with friends and family, eating popcorn and snuggling with her cats.
The sun is shining down on us at GFD because Kacie is back! She left us in 2017 when her military husband had a job transfer to Illinois. But the call of the Chesapeake Bay was too much for them to ignore, and they longed to be back in Calvert County. Long story shorther husband retired from the military, they bought back the EXACT same house they lived in before, her girls are over the moon to be back with their old friends, and shes back at GFD! Tell us that wasnt meant to be!
Kacie is even back to her old work schedule and fell right back into the travel softball lifestyle with her girls. Life is good for Kacie as she settles into her old routine and gets to enjoy the Chesapeake Bay, Patuxent River and nature trails in Calvert. Plus, shes a big crab-eaterand theres nobody that knows crabs like a Marylander (native or transplant). And her North Dakota sweetness is still the best thing about her!
Sydne is a part-time Dental Assistant at GFD, and we couldnt be happier to have her! It is virtually impossible to ruffle her feathersshes cool as a cucumber! And maybe that comes from the time she spends on the golf courseand shes really good! (We should really schedule some GFD group golf lessons.)
She is attending dental hygiene school in Baltimore, plus works for us, plus works another PT job, AND fits in time for golf, rescue animals and memory-making adventures with her husband! She loves seafood and Asian cuisineand says popcorn and chocolate are her favorite snacks. She is excited to be part of the GFD team and is excited about getting involved in the Calvert and So. AA communities!
Barb is a Registered Dental Hygienist who has been practicing her craft for 40 years! She has been with the practice since 1979, and has been with Dr. Sclater since 2008. Barb's favorite part about being a Dental Hygienist is getting to see a patient make a complete turnaround towards excellent dental health with a little education and regular dental care. Barb has a knack for great sealants on teeth, and believes they are an important part of optimizing the benefits of regular visits to the dentist. Barb is Laser Certified.
Barb moved to Calvert County in 1979 and she's never looked back. She raised her family in Calvert County, and is lucky to still have all her grown children living close by. When not in the office, Barb spends as much time as possible with her grandchildren...which keeps her very busy! Barb really values the connection she has with her patients, and being a part of this community is very important to her. And she loves to row with the GFD team when we do the End Hunger Dragon Boat races. But being a grandmother is her absolute favorite thing!
Sandi is a Dental Hygienist with Gentle Family Dentistry and earned an A.A.S. degree. She has been with our practice since 2004 and has been in the dental industry for 38 years. Sandi is a truly gentle hygienist. She feels that gaining the trust of a patient is one of the most important aspects of her job. She takes great satisfaction in restoring a mouth to total health and seeing how it impacts the lives of her patients. Sandi is laser andanesthesia certified.
Sandi originally hailed from the Hudson Valley in NY. She has lived in Maryland for the past 30 years. Sandi is very active in her church, and she loves to spend time with her family. Sandi likes to spend her free time attending plays or working on puzzles. She also likes to squeeze in a little girl-time with her friends when she gets the chance. Sandi was a part of the dental team that volunteered for Mission of Mercy in 2012 and 2014, and is a supporter of The Autism Project.
Jessica is one of our amazing Dental Hygienists. She is a natural teacher and has a knack with children. Jessica has her laser, nitrous and anesthesia certification. She has a passion for oral health. She will put you at ease before you even sit in her chair, and will educate you as she makes your smile look and feel more beautiful. Jessica 's motto is, 'If the eyes are the windows to the soul, the mouth is the door to the body' and uses this to emphasize her oral-systemic health philosophy.
Jessica is a proud mother to her son who is a senior in high school. When she is not at work, you will often find her working on home improvement projects and taking her dogs for a walk. She carves out time for herself by enjoying a healthy lifestyle that is filled with fitness and fu...including rock climbing and scuba diving! She loves to make bone broth and shop local when she can for ingredients to make delicious meals. She also finds the time to volunteer for Mission of Mercy and had a blast at the United Way Day of Caring in 2019.
Please help us welcome Ashley! We are very excited to expand our hygiene department so we can accommodate our patients in a more timely manner. We love that Ashley is bringing to our team a fresh perspective. Ashley, like the rest of our team, is patient-focused, and is incredibly empathetic to patients with dental anxiety (she said she has dental anxiety too, which really helps with comforting her patients). Ashley committed to her goal of being a hygienist at 14. She's been in the dental field for 9 years, and worked as an oral surgery assistant while pursuing her degree. She is passionate about oral health, and even received the Hu-Friedy Golden Scaler Award which was presented to a graduating dental hygiene student showing the greatest proficiency in the performance of clinical dental hygiene services. Ashley is a Southern MD native, and recently married her best friend! She has a passion for animals, family and crafting. She couldnt live without ice cream, and grilled cheese is her favorite food! And we are very excited for her...she recently had her first baby! She and her husband are over the moon...they love every minute of being a parent!
We are so happy to have Jess on board as a Registered Dental Hygienist at GFD. #1 shes a military wife (so she totally fits right in) and #2 shes as sweet as can be. She has a knack for making patients feel comfortableJess is a total people person! Jess has been a hygienist for 12 years, and is licensed in Ohio, Indiana and Maryland.
Jess first came to us as a patient when her husband, who is an Air Force Pilot, was stationed at JBA. Jess grew up in Ohio and has true Midwest family values. She loves volunteering at school (she has 3 girls), at End Hunger and loves delivering for Chesapeake Cares Pantry. She completed a triathlon seven years ago and cant live without chocolate, Mexican food and wine. Were so happy to have you Jess!
Christina is a bundle of energy and has slipped into the GFD Team seamlessly. Christina is bubbly and known for her extreme attention to detail. She has the ability to put the most anxious patients at ease and she has been a hygienist for 10 years. She has practiced in MD, TX and NM, and she said Little Rock, AR was a fabulous place to live when her husband was in the military. She grew up in Baltimore County, and after traveling with her family around the US, they landed in Southern MD because of her husband's joband they love the military community in Calvert!
Health and fitness are very important to Christinashes been leading driveway workouts for her neighbors during the pandemic. Christina loves teaching Sunday school at her church, ran two half-marathons in 2012 and is obsessed with Hint of Lime tortilla chips!
