February has been designated Gum Disease Awareness Month! Initially launched by the Institute for Advanced Laser Dentistry, its purpose is to raise awareness about gum disease and encourage healthy dental habits to prevent it.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), gum disease, also referred to as periodontitis, is the result of infections and inflammation of the gums and bone that surround and support the teeth. In the early stages, the gums can become swollen and red, and they may bleed. As it progresses, the gums can pull away from the tooth, which can eventually result in bone and tooth loss. Not only does gum disease affect your mouth, it can affect your body as well. Regular check-ups and good oral hygiene are important to ensure everything is healthy.
Periodontal disease is mostly seen in adults, with 47.2% of those aged 30 years and older having some form of it. This risk only increases with age. On top of age, there are many other risk factors that can increase your chance of developing gum disease. One of the primary risk factors is smoking, followed by poor oral hygiene, diabetes, stress, hormonal changes and medications that cause dry mouth.
While gum disease starts in the mouth, when left untreated, it can start affecting many other parts of the body as well. This includes respiratory disease, rheumatoid arthritis, coronary artery disease and diabetes.

I had a filling. It was tough getting through the process. Seemed very rough. Can't pinpoint exactly why, but it was not easy to get through at all.

I really liked Dr. Atmar. I have a small mouth and she has smaller hands which is great for me. Just wish prices weren't so high to get teeth fixed because my insurance only covers cleanings and x-rays.

I would like to give 0 stars for gentle dentist, I was there with my Dad he do not have insurance so explain the situation and ask for recommendation and front desk lady offer me saving plan which is $270 for 1 year service with 2 cleaning and exam but when he did exam after doctor Goff said he need deeper cleaning and which is cost $410 and before that he have to do feeling in 3 teeth which cost $610 and he have to do all of that first. I explained that he don't want to do deeper cleaning just do regular one because he doesn't have insurance he just want to taking care 1 teeth just do that but they want more money that's why refused to do normal cleaning which is free. Last but not list they took $270 for nothing just for exam i west my time plus money for just one exam. So never trust on gentle dentist. I would never go and never recommend anyone to go there. They are believing to collect money with 0 services.

I had the best experience today from two of the most beautiful people I've met in a very long time. Dr. Atmar & Dr. Crider made my day. They were soo attentive & just good people. I highly recommend anyone looking for a new dentist to check them out. And of course "I'm still Smiling"

I've been going to a Avon Gentle Dentist since I was a kid every time I go they get me in super quick and out super quick the nurses and doctors are also amazing!

Entire family were patients here. We rarely had cavities before coming here. Once at Gentle Dentist we had multiple cavities each visit. Been with a new dentist and we have been cavity free as a family for two years. We strongly believe they over treat here.

Always love the girls here! They always make sure you know what's going on, they make sure your comfortable and not in pain, almost like your part of the family! I highly recommend coming here my kids come and any of my friends who ask this is where I tell them to go! Thanks lady's!

Waited a couple months to be seen as a new patient. Finally get to be seen and only got X-rays done and talked to the dentist about my medical history and what they plan on doing for the next visit. All I needed was a cleaning and they told me they could get me in for a cleaning in November..:.that's 7 months out! Not going back, highly disappointed and absolutely ridiculous that they are booked out that far just for a cleaning.
