So uncommon for me to have a dental emergency. But there I was on Friday with a whopper. I called Dr. Gearing's office and spoke with his wonderful office staff. They got me in on Monday, and Dr.Gearing had my emergency resolved in 2 hours. He and his staff were/are professional, caring, and helpful. I was informed of each step in the process and treated with respect. I cannot express how grateful I am for the treatment and am so happy to have him/them in our community.

I went to Dr. Gearing for a root canal as he's the only dentist in our county who performs endodontics, though he's NOT an endodontist. Worst dental experience of my life! he put a block of wood in the hinge of my jaw to hold my mouth open saying it would prevent pain, but it was agonizing and I felt the little pieces of wood every minute. I didn't think I'd need to use the bathroom, but I did and he really was irritated that he had to stop. He took the wood block out and my mouth and now my mouth wouldn't close! IT WAS TERRIFYING. He had to work for a while to get my mouth closed by poking and the same spot over and over, and when the procedure was over IT HAPPENED AGAIN. He finally finished the root canal and when I stood up I couldn't close my mouth and he had to close it again, and by now the side of my face he was was black and blue; from all the poking and rubbig which, it turned out, wasn't the way to go about it at all. He said "I have never had to work so long to close a patient's mouth," so this happens regularly with him, and he doesn't even know the right way to re-locate the lower jaw. I paid and left, went to the market, and while there I yawned and my mouth stuck open a fourth time and now Gearing's office was closed so I had to go to the local ER and wait an hour in agony, drooling with my mouth stuck open as wide as it could go looking like some sort of alien before a physician's assistant could close it, and when they showed me how it was so easy to do if done right I realized that Gearing had no idea what he was doing. When I called him he the next day he refused to speak to me or see me as a patient again. AS IF. HE'S NOT WHAT HE APPEARS TO BE-- I have met two other women who had the exact same experience. Last, the wood block is unsanitary and my regular dentist's assistant showed me what decent professionals use to prop the mouth open and it is made of plastic with a little hinge for comfort to avoid what happened to me, and they come in different sizes. Now I have been diagnosed with TMJ and am in pain all the time with ringing in my ears thanks to Gearing and his wood block. Again, don't fall for his Good Christian act, he's NOT a good person, just a very dangerous dentist.

ROOT CANAL!!!!!. Those words strike fear into most dental patients. Visions of "Little Shop of Horrors" with Steve Martin. I was referred by my regular dentist (Dr Scherer) for an emergency root canal. I was given an appointment for 3 days later. I was called in on the same day, when a spot opened up. Thankful for that, my mouth was really hurting. Dr Gearing's office was very professional. Dr Gearing explained the whole process. I could tell that his lead nurse had been with him for a long time. They worked together seamlessly. It was completely painless. I was in and out in 1 hour 15 minutes. Thanks to the whole staff and especially Dr Gearing.

Never had a better dentist in my 88 years in many countries in the world. In Singapore after WW II a dentist drill was activated by him pushing a pedal. This to tell you that I have had a lot of dental work done. Dr. Gearing has done two root canals for me and both were absolutely painless. During, but also AFTER his treatment. His explanations are very clear. Longtime staff is capable and very helpful. I could not be a happier patient!

I went to him for a root canal because my regular dentist could not get me numb. He did get me numb and told me I could be having so much pain because there could be an infection. I asked if it was ok to do the work if there was an infection and he said yes. Even though he got the job done, my mouth actually hurts worse now then it did before I went in. He told me I didn't need anything for pain other than ibuprofen and that because he deadened the nerve, it shouldn't hurt. Well, considering he had to drill all the way down near my jaw bone, yeah it hurts. It's been several days and it still hurts worse than when I went in. I called the emergency line to tell him I was in tears due to pain and he actually told me to go to the emergency room or prompt care because there was nothing he could give me for pain. I will never go back and I'm very upset and still in A LOT of pain almost 2 grand later. Waste !!!! Also, he wasn't very gentle or caring .

Dr. Gearing is a great dentist! Awesome customer service from office staff and assistants. My treatment was painless and I was appointed very rapidly! Toothache is gone. I highly recommend this office if you need a root canal.

If you need a root canal; stop right here. Look no farther! This is it. I would argue that Dr. James Gearing is the best Endodontist in Northern Calif. He has a very high success rate. He is extremely honest. And if you check his prices you will probably find he will not be much more expensive than your dentist. In some cases he might even be the same price or less than your dentist. He specializes in root canal therapy; and being an overall good guy. If you have to do a multi-rooted tooth be sure and ask for a cone beam x-ray. I highly recommend it; he found a forth root on several of my teeth that did not show up on regular PA's. You will find Gretchen and Aaron to be as good as it gets when it comes to office staff. I consider both of them friends.

Over one year ago I had the displeasure of having a tooth fail. I was working out of town and called my dentist for an emergency appointment. I was informed he was too busy. Having used Dr. Gearing for a Root Canal before I called his number and his service relayed my message. He called me from home and worked me in the next day. He put me on the right path for a complete implant. He did not receive any compensation for helping me. Thank you Dr. Gearing! Cheers.
