As a pediatric dentist, Dr. OCallaghan has two years of additional specialty training following his four years of dental school. During his residency, Dr. OCallaghan had extensive training in infant oral health care, trauma management, cavity risk assessment, growth and development, interceptive orthodontic management, administration of sedation medications, treatment of children and special needs patients in the operating room, and general restorative treatments. As a pediatric dental specialist, Dr. OCallaghan knows that children can get anxious when they visit the dentist. We offer a number of sedation options to help your child feel comfortable during their treatment.
Nitrous oxide, more commonly known as laughing gas, is great for children with minor dental anxiety. It smells sweet and helps them feel very relaxed while our team works. Plus, just a few minutes of breathing regular air completely reverses its effects. Its safe for children of all ages. For children with moderate dental anxiety, or those going through treatment that is a little more extensive, Dr. OCallaghan may recommend sedation.
My name is Megan and I am a dental hygienist. Even before I realized I wanted to be a dental hygienist, I knew I wanted to work with children. I started my education at Calvin College and later transferred into the Dental Hygiene program at Grand Rapids Community College. I am excited to be at GPD to watch the kids grow, overcome their fears, and learn how to grow up with a healthy mouth.

My name is Marilu. I am a registered dental assistant at Gaines Pediatric Dentistry. I received my certificate in dental assisting in 2008 from Everest Institute, followed by my CDA through DANB in 2016. I earned my RDA from Washtenaw Community College in 2017. Working in a pediatric office is very rewarding and fulfilling for me. I enjoy working with our great staff, but the best part of my job is the children. Every child brings their unique personality to the office and I enjoy getting to know each and every one of them.
When not in the office, I enjoy spending time with my husband and our families. I especially love spending time with my nieces and nephews. My favorite season is summer when I can enjoy going to the beach, camping, biking and reading outside in the sunshine.

This was a nice visit. Recommend this place to anyone who's looking for a great care of your teeth. Also I have a question: What is the minimum age allowed to this dental place? I forgot to ask earlier. Can adults set up appointments as well? And what insurances are accepted?

My son was there before he chiped his tooth and needed it fixed asap. The receptionist was very rude and said he was a patient and would need a new patient intake and there was a 6 month wait.

Receptionist was not very kind. Very rude. Very short. Didn't inform me of our options and basically kicked us out of the office without even telling us. However, after speaking with multiple different staff and Dr. O'callaghan himself I am very pleased to know this was a one time occurance. A misunderstanding. My kids love this place and I am very pleased to know we will be returning to their office. I've recommended them to many people and will continue to do so. Great job Gaines Pediatric Dentistry!

I would give this place 100 stars if i could! The staff goes above and beyond everytime for my kiddos and we have had nothing but positive experiences. The front desk staff are all very friendly, the hygienist's are amazing and very patient, and Dr. O'Callaghan is as friendly as they come. My kids actually look forward to going to the dentist because they have a friendly/positive experience and BONUS they get a prize at the end! I would recommend that everyone with children go here :)

All of my children were treated with patience, kindness, and respect. As the parents, we were treated well and kept informed. I loved that the hygienists and Dr. O'Callaghan spoke directly to my children, keeping them comfortable and happy throughout the entire appointment. Everyone there was so kind and very much look like they love their jobs.

My son who was born at 23.3 weeks had his first appointment ever with this office. The reviews speak for themselves! Not only was the doctor able to get into his mouth with his former extreme oral aversion, but he and the staff were great to him. The visit was I formative and time efficient. I'm glad i was recommended here.

They were so kind and good with my son! They didn't degrade me as a parent or make it seem like my son's teeth issues were 100% my fault! They were good with explaining things out in a way that I understood and actually made me feel like I was getting my money's worth!! Very clean, calm and happy atmosphere as well!!

This place has been the best pediatric dentistry that I have gone to for my babies! They all have been very kind and polite and I appreciate that they explain everything to them so that they can understand what they are going to do to them so they wouldn't be scared. They did everything to make my babies feel safe and relaxed and that's is all I wanted for my babies first dental experience!

Dr O'Callaghan is great! My daughter unfortunately doesn't have the strongest teeth, we've had two procedures done - the whole team at Spectrum and Dr. O'Callaghan were fantastic, made my toddler comfortable.
