The story of G & G Pediatric Dentistry and Orthodontics began across the globe, miles, and miles from Naperville in a town named Downers Grove on the campus of Midwestern University. These two dental nerds (Dr. Cory and Dr. Nicole) were dental school classmates, and actually interviewed on the same day prior to starting dental school! Dr. Nicole claims she doesnt remember Dr. Cory at her interview, Dr. Cory knows that is definitely NOT the truth.
With persistence and multiple requests for study sessions with Dr. Nicole, they hit it off without a glitch. Dr. Nicole was not a fan of the human anatomy lab in dental school, and Dr. Cory helped her get past the awful smell of formaldehyde and a weak stomach. The rest is history.
Things were getting serious for these lovebirds and they decided to apply to their specialty residencies together. They decided that Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio was their top choice for training after traveling all over the country for multiple interviews. Fun fact: Dr. Nicole found out she matched at Case Western almost two months before Dr. Cory, who was left to sweat it out day after day until the pediatric dental match was announced. They matched at the same program (an incredibly rare feat for specialist couples)!
While they loved their time in Cleveland, they decided to move back to the Chicago suburbs where they got married and planted their roots. They are more than excited to share their knowledge and training with the community. More importantly, they are excited to meet all their patients in the surrounding area and cant wait for them to become a part of the G&G Pediatric Dentistry and Orthodontics family!
Dr. Cory Grathwol grew up in Sandusky, Ohio: home of Cedar Point and yes, he had season passes every year. He comes from a large Irish and German family who predominantly all live in Ohio, but he and Dr. Nicole make a point of seeing them often.
He attended the Ohio State University before moving to Illinois where he obtained his Doctorate of Dental Medicine from Midwestern University in Downers Grove, Illinois. Unlike many dentists, he never dreamed of becoming a dentist. Growing up, Dr. Cory told his parents he wanted to be a vet. During dental school, Dr. Cory was finding himself spending the majority of his free time in the pediatric dental clinic. He decided pediatric dentistry was his passion and the rest is history. He went on to obtain his specialty certificate in pediatric dentistry from Case Western Reserve University/Rainbow Babies & Childrens Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio.
Dr. Nicole Gange Grathwol grew up in Itasca, Illinois where she spent the majority of her childhood in the same home. She went to Driscoll Catholic High School in Addison (touchy subject, her school closed one year after she graduated and she still hasnt mentally recovered). She decided leaving the state just wasnt for her so she stuck around and did her undergraduate training at DePaul University and called Lincoln Park her home for four years. Still not quite ready to spread her wings, she decided to attended Midwestern University in Downers Grove, Illinois for dental school. This is where she claims to have spent a majority of her time playing hard to get from Dr. Cory (he sees things very differently).
In a decision nearly more shocking than Lebron James leaving Cleveland for Miami, Dr. Nicole moved to Cleveland, Ohio where she completed her Masters of Science in Orthodontics. She fell in love with Lake Erie with a little help from Dr. Cory. They spent their free time at Cleveland Indians games and eating their way through Little Italy and every ice cream parlor Northeast Ohio has to offer.
