Dr. Futrell is a native of Richlands, North Carolina, and graduated from Richlands High School as the class of 1987s Valedictorian. He continued to excel at North Carolina State University and graduated in 1991, Summa Cum Laude, one of the highest honor awards, with a Bachelors of Science in Zoology.
After undergraduate school, Dr. Futrell began his dental studies at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. While he was there, one of his numerous research projects was published in a well known dental journal; it was based on the study of glass ionomer, a material that is no longer used in the dental field due to poor quality results. Dr. Futrell is so passionate about the study of dentistry, he has been an adjunct professor at UNC-CH School of Dentistry since 1995, has taught continuing education courses, lectured on ceramic dentistry and was a past President for the Onslow Dental Society. He also evaluates exams for The Council of Interstate Testing Agency for dental licensure in the state of North Carolina. Currently his memberships include the American Dental Association (ADA), the North Carolina Dental Society and the Academy of Computerized Dentists.
Dr. Futrell and his wife, Tammy, his high school sweetheart, have two children; Austin and Chandler. At a very early age, Dr. Futrell knew he wanted to be in the health field and decided to be a veterinarian. However, at this young age he also realized allergies were going to prevent the veterinarian dream and decided dentistry was the avenue he was to pursue. During his spare time, he enjoys being active in his church community, attending his sons sporting events, his daughters dance recitals, traveling to new ventures and attending as many home Wolfpack football and basketball games as possible.
Dr. Reese is originally from Centerville, a suburb of Salt Lake City, Utah. After graduating high school in 1995, he attended the University of Utah for a semester before taking time off to serve a mission for his church in the Philippines. While there he was able to work with Project Smile in helping children receive necessary dental care. This opportunity sparked his interest in and love of dentistry.
When he returned, he resumed his collegiate studies and graduated in 2002 with the degree of Bachelor of Arts in Biology. He spent several semesters at the University of Utah on the Academic Deans List. During his undergraduate studies, he was a member of the University of Utahs Pre-Dental Society and enjoyed his pre-dental coursework as well as working as a teachers assistant for one of the courses. Upon his graduation, he began his graduate studies in dentistry at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine in Boston, Massachusetts. While at Tufts, he benefited from the rigorous coursework in all subspecialties of dentistry, particularly in the care of medically-compromised patients and Prosthodontics. He graduated from Tufts in 2007 and relocated to Jacksonville, NC in order to enter private practice.
While in Boston, Dr. Reese met his wife, Brynn, a school teacher originally from Raleigh. They have three children, Nathan, Emily and Joshua. Dr. Reese and his family love to spend time together playing outdoors and enjoying eastern North Carolina beaches. As a native of Utah, Dr. Reese is an avid skier and loves hitting the slopes whenever he can. In Jacksonville, he enjoys riding his bike and playing soccer. He is also very involved with his church community and loves getting to know people in the Jacksonville area.

Coastal Carolina Dental is great for all thr reasons one could want gor their dental needs! I've been a loyal client for over a decade. Dr. Reese is very thoughtful and thorough. Plus the employees from the front desk to the assistants are truly great at what they do and as people!

I have been seeing Dr. Aruez for about 5 years as a patient. He and his staff are always professional and take extra time to explain procedures to minimize any anxiety that I might have. I highly recommend Dr. Aruez.

I originally had an appointment scheduled for Sept 13th but had some very bad pain and called this morning and was able to get in an hour later. Everyone was very courteous and awesome and genuinely made me feel comfortable! They included me in all the information and treatment plans. Thanks to this office, I'm no longer fearful of going to the dentist. Thank you so much for everything!

Not sure why it took me so long to think of writing a review for this practice. I have been coming here for so long until I moved out of state in 2019. I have never been happier with a dental office. This office has always made me feel welcomed and appreciated. And also to add, this office is what inspired me to pursue a career in the dental field. And I couldn't be happier with my job. Dr Reese is truly the best dentist I have ever had. And I miss coming here so much. You will not be disappointed with the care you receive here.

This is an office of superheroes! They have incredible powers, although I do understand wearing capes to work everyday may seem unprofessional. Their kindness is absolutely unmatched! They had the patience to go over my plan with me several times because I wasn't getting it. One staff even when out her way to help me; to this day that stuck with me. These people are worth their weight in gold! They never cease to amaze me. Im very thankful for them.

He has even met me at his office after hrs when I had a concern. Goes above and beyond. Would highly recommend.

He truly took the time to talk with me and explain their approach on dental care. My initial appt was wonderful and I look forward to my future appt for my cleaning. 10/10 recommend! From the moment I called the office, I knew this would be a good experience! The receptionist that I spoke to took the time to ask me questions and got me on the schedule quickly. On the day of my appointment, as soon as walked in to the building I was greeted. Both ladies at the desk were polite and made me feel welcome. Ofelia, the Dental Assistant, came to the waiting room to get me and was an absolute delight from the second I met her. She made me feel very comfortable and explained everything before and while taking x-rays and doing the cancer screening. Dr. Futrell, came in as soon as Ofelia was complete. He introduced himself and spoke to me about his practice, his values and asked me about myself and my concerns. He went over every photo/x-ray with me and explained what he saw and what he thought. He was very pleasant and down to Earth. A treatment plan was made and they went over everything in detailed. I have been to dentists before who rush, push unnecessary things on you and do not listen to your concerns; I did not feel like this at all today. I left the office feeling good about the entire experience!
