Dr. Ruben grew up in a large extended family of cousins and uncles in Eastern Europe and he immigrated to the US at the age of four. As the eldest cousin, he naturally ended up taking care of all his aunt and uncles kids. As a young child during play, he was often found examining the mouths of the ducks, chickens, cats, and dogs his grandfather owned. It comes to no surprise that he had a natural inclination to choose to become a pediatric dentist. Dr. Ruben obtained his DDS degree from University of the Pacific Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry and then completed a General Practice Residency at Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno, which is affiliated with UCSF. Realizing his passion for treating children and special needs patients during that time, he then completed a fellowship in Special Needs at Helen Hayes Hospital in upstate New York, which is affiliated with Columbia University. Afterwards, he completed his specialty residency in pediatric dentistry at The Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City. He is board certified by the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry. After residency, Dr. Ruben practiced in Texas part time before settling back in Orange County, where he and his wife are from. While not at the office, Dr. Ruben enjoys spending time with his wife and daughter as well as reading on his balcony.
Dr. Kao obtained her DDS degree from New York Universitys College of Dentistry with Honors in Pediatric Dentistry and Special Patient Care. Realizing her passion for treating children and special needs patients, she remained at NYU and its affiliated Bellevue Hospital Center for specialty training in pediatrics. She is board certified by the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry.
Growing up in Taiwan and Vancouver, Canada, Dr. Kao had been constantly on the move. After residency, Dr. Kao practiced in Massachusetts for 4 years before settling back in Orange County, where her husband is from. She is glad to call SoCal home. While not at the office, Dr. Kao enjoys spending time with her twins, building LEGO (she just finished a 7500-piece Millennium Falcon), cooking, exploring fun places in southern California and watching sports. She loves the New England Patriots and Vancouver Canucks and is deciding between Dodgers or Angels.
Dr. Khalaf loves the satisfaction that comes from transforming lives by providing his patients with exceptional dental care. His years of in-depth experience and his kind, professional manner leave patients at ease and create positive experiences about sleep dentistry.
During their time travels, a special crew of sparkly-toothed kids stopped in on the present century to conduct a Smiloscopic examination on dentistry for children. The readout on their Smiloscopes showed great progress compared to earlier periods of time, with kids flashing plenty ofhealthy and happy smiles.
But the team also found that todays smiles could be even better. So, riding on their Strato Hover Boards (SHBs), they arrived at thepediatricdentist officesof FUNtastic Pediatric Dental to get their advice on improving this centurys Smile Rating. Nobody should ever get cavities or toothaches, a FUNtastic Team Member told them. In fact, taking care of your teeth can be lots of fun. So, with proper care and prevention, theres no reason we all cant have great smiles!
With this knowledge, the group went back to their place in time, but only for a short stay. They soon returned to the present day equipped with the most amazing gear, a mission to improve dentistry for children and a name for their toothy teamThe Guardians of the Smile!
The crews information officer and youngest member, Bounce, spreads the word that sucking too long, or too often, on a baby bottle can severely damage the teeth! His duties also include managing the flow of communication between the FUNtastic Team and their patients.

I absolutely love this place, every single time I come my kids get treated so well and everyone is beyond patient! A special thank you to Dr.Ruben who beyond patience treats my kids as if they were his. My daughter had a few boogies on her nose which was stopping the laughing gas from effeciently working and instead of asking me(mom) to clean them, he had no problem doing it! I can't thank this place enough for all they do to make a dentist experience a happy one for each child! Olga thank you also for your kindness, love and patience. Funtastic Dental is full of staff that love what they do and it shows in their treatment and care!

Dr. Ruben and Olga the dental assistant were great, my son was scared but once we arrived he remembered his last visit and was happy. Dr. Ruben was patient and explained the dental tools to my son prior to using them so he can understand and not be scared. Will be returning for his next visit in 6 months. See you guys soon!

The service is great we are covered with double PPO dental insurance but every time we get told her insurance is not in network. I guess it works different when billing for Pediatrician. we always get charge additional $500.00

My daughter who is almost 7 has been coming to this dentist office since she was 2. I have always been completely satisfied with the patient care they provide. The dentists and office staff are always super nice and extremely patient with the little ones.

We've been going to Funtastic Dental since my oldest was 2.5 yrs old. It's been a really good experience each time. He's now 8 yrs old and our youngest just had her first appointment at 18 months. They are highly supportive of the kids and parents. Highly recommend

This was my daughter's 1st time transitioning from the kids practice to the adult side. She was a little anxious, but we could not be happier after our visit. Huge shout out to our hygienist Alexis...she is definitely the best ever! Love you!!

Received text notification that my son was due for an appointment. Made the appointment, arrived on the day, filled out the paperwork, son waited in the chair, dentist comes in and informs us there was a mistake in the automated appointment system and he's not due for an appointment after all. Sends us home. Afterwards, automated text asks us to please leave a google review, so I'm doing as requested! Think they need to work on their automated systems.

We've been going to this office for the past 6 years and this office is out of my network but because my daughter enjoys the experience, I pay the additional fees. This past visit was just not what it used to be. I don't know if it's Covid or maybe something else is going on. But for years my daughter prides herself on not having any cavities. There was a no cavity club where she got a pencil and was entered into a raffle. Well this visit she didn't get a pencil, no raffle, no good job on no cavities. Nothing. On top of all this 6 months cleaning she didn't even get a goodie bag with a new toothbrush, floss and sticker. Which she looks forward too. When your a kid who's had multiple experiences in your office to walk away feeling cheated it hurt my heart. She said mom I want to go where you go now.

Dr. Kao and Marisol are the best people you can ask for to care for your child's dental needs. I have an autistic teenager who needs a lot of care when it comes to his teeth. They are able to make him comfortable and at ease. The fact that my son even lets them look at his teeth is amazing. The front office staff are also so friendly and easy to communicate with via call or text. I'm so thankful that they are there.

My 8 year old son who is special needs has his tooth removed today. I was a nervous wreck. Had absolutely no reason to worry. The dentist and assistants did an amazing job while explaining each step and keeping us both calm. I definitely recommend. So great full for the kindness and care we received today.

Everyone at FUNtastic is absolutely amazing with kids. They make them feel comfortable and safe. My 4 year old squealed with excitement when she realized we were at the dentist. Very thorough examinations and work. The actual office is SUPER clean. The decor is fun and really well done.
