Dr. D.T. Fulmer was born in Union, SC, but his family moved to Simpsonville when he was in the sixth grade. After attending Hillcrest Middle School and finishing Hillcrest High School, he received his Bachelor of Science degree in Microbiology from Clemson University. He then earned his Doctor of Dental Medicine from the Medical University of South Carolina. In addition to receiving a number of student awards, he was also inducted into the Omicron Kappa Upsilon National Dental Honor Society. Following dental school, Dr. Fulmer practiced general dentistry in Fountain Inn and Iva, SC for three years. He then completed a comprehensive two-year full-time residency in orthodontics at the University of Louisville School of Dentistry in Kentucky and has been a certified specialist in the field of orthodontics in Mauldin since 1987.
Dr. Fulmer and his wife Shirley have been married for over 35 years. They are the proud parents of one daughter, Dr. Elizabeth Fulmer Eakes and are also excited to be new grandparents. Dr. Fulmer and Shirley are members of Simpsonville United Methodist Church, where they were married. In addition to church and family time, they enjoy cycling and attending Clemson football games. Dr. Fulmer enjoys supporting the Golden Strip community by sponsoring athletic teams, school events, mission trips, and other activities involving his patients. He has been in the Mauldin Rotary Club for 25 years.
Dr. Fulmer is an experienced and progressive orthodontist who stays current with the latest developments and technology in the fields of dentistry and orthodontics. He is committed to excellence and loves to make children, teenagers, and adults happier and healthier by creating beautiful smiles.
Dr. Elizabeth Fulmer Eakes grew up in Simpsonville, SC. After attending Mauldin High School, she received her Bachelor of Science in Biology from Furman University where she graduated summa cum laude, and was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa. She completed her dental degree at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, graduating first in her class. She received numerous awards while in dental school and was inducted into the Omicron Kappa Upsilon National Dental Honor Society. Dr. Eakes loved Charleston so much that she stayed at MUSC to complete an intensive three-year residency program to receive her certificate in the specialty of orthodontics. During her time at MUSC, Dr. Eakes treated both pediatric and adult patients. She joined Fulmer Orthodontics in July 2014 and is currently pursuing her board certification from the American Board of Orthodontics.
Dr. Eakes and her husband Devin were married in Charleston in 2010 and have an adoring springer spaniel named Annie. They recently welcomed their first child and are loving their new roles as parents. Besides spending time with her family, she enjoys baking, photography, shopping, exploring good places to eat, and traveling.
Dr. Eakes feels blessed to have the opportunity to come back home to the Upstate and practice orthodontics with her father. She is excited to meet new and existing patients and their families. She strives to make her patients orthodontic care and forming relationships with them her highest priorities.

Shirley and Dr. Fulmer celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary in 2014. They make a great team! Shirley has extensive experience in handling orthodontic treatment accounts and managing referrals with other dentists who may be involved with a patients treatment. She also has thorough knowledge of clinical treatment needs and can effectively communicate details of treatment to patients and parents. She is happy to serve our patients and their families!
