The results and transformation of peoples smiles is the most rewarding part, but the process is just as interesting. Over the years, I have had the opportunity to meet so many wonderful people, and the friendships that Ive built with my patients and their families are one in a million. I get to know my patients and families during the course of treatment so well, they become part of our family.

As a mother of two teenage children, I feel that my experiences with my children help me understand and work better with my teenage patients. Dr. Nooshin Majd graduated from Boston Universitys Goldman School of Dental Medicine in 1997 with the rank of first in her class. She practiced as a general dentist for three years before returning to BU to fulfill the three-year post-doctoral residency for her specialty degree in orthodontics.

Throughout her career, Dr. Majd has been involved in clinical research. Her work on pain management in dental procedures has been published in several professional journals. With more than 20 years of clinical experience in dentistry and special involvement with disabled and autistic patients as well as those with cleft lip and palate, she is proud to be able to treat all patients, including those that have been regarded as difficult by other orthodontists.

She is very passionate about her specialty and continues to learn and study new techniques by attending courses and study clubs to advance her knowledge and skills and provide her patients with the best possible orthodontic care.

Dr. Majd and her husband, Dr. Saman Malkami (endodontist) have been married for more than 20 years and have two children. After living in Boston for 12 years through dental school and residency, and having both their children born there, they felt the desire to return to California to raise their family in beautiful Orange County.

They share a passion for their community and helping people in need, particularly children. In support of their favorite charities and causes, every year they contribute to the Childrens Hospital of Orange County (CHOC), St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital, the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, the Child Foundation, and local schools and youth education organizations. During her time off, Dr. Majd enjoys reading, running, and yoga.

Dr. Christine Kim is a Board Certified Pediatric Dentist who grew up and completed all her studies in southern California. Dr. Kim obtained her DDS degree from UCLA School of Dentistry. After dental school, Dr. Kim did her General Practice Residency at Ranchos Los Amigos Rehabilitation Center, where she was trained to provide dental care for patients with special needs in both outpatient and hospital settings. Dr. Kim completed her specialty training in pediatric dentistry at Loma Linda University and graduated with a Master of Science in Dentistry (MSD) degree.

Currently, Dr. Kim works in private practice and teaches part-time as Adjunct Assistant Professor of Clinical Dentistry at USC in pediatric dentistry. Dr. Kim is a Diplomat of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry and a member of the American Dental Association, California Dental Association, American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, and California Society of Pediatric Dentistry.

Nannette has been in the dental field for 25 yrs. She began her career as a registered dental assistant, enjoying the interaction with patients on the clinical side was a rewarding experience which led her into wanting to learn the financial/business side of Orthodontics to be able to help patients even more. Nannette and her husband live in La Habra, and she enjoys spending time with her 4 children, 3 step children and 4 Grandchildren.

Darlain has worked in general dentistry and orthodontics for 8 years. She finds orthodontics interesting in how the process affects the patients in a positive way and she loves building great friendships with patients during and after their treatment.

With more than 20 years of experience as an RDA, Sue lives and breathes orthodontics. She is a perfectionist and loves to take on decorating and organization projects around the office,we call her our ' Martha Stewart' !! She loves to have a conversation and laugh with the patients and always asking them about what is going on in their life. Sue and her husband have lived and raised their children in Brea,Orange County for years and she has been part of the orthodontic journey for generations of local families.

Dereen has been in the dental field for 3 years and loves orthodontics so much that has decided to become an orthodontist herself. She is a pre-dental student at UC Riverside and despite her busy schedule, is always smiling and enjoying her time working with patients.

Orthodontic treatment involves several aspects of your health and well-being including facial balance and harmony as well as speech, mastication (Chewing) and neuromuscular balance in the head and neck area and also self-confidence and feeling good about your smile.

When having your initial exam with us, Dr. Majd will discuss your unique orthodontic case and how we can achieve the best results for your teeth and facial esthetics. In some cases, correction of the position of the teeth may be necessary to improve the appearance and harmony of the face and lips, even though the teeth may seem straight. For others, the teeth may be crowded and extraction of some teeth may be considered as an option but if it will not work well for the patient's facial and smile features, we will work to design a treatment plan to address teeth crowding and not affect the facial beauty of our patients.

Dr. Majd has built a reputation in ' diagnosis and treating the face' of her patients, not just the teeth. We are excited to share with you some of our special cases where the patients had been told they need jaw surgery or extraction of the permanent teeth, otherwise no other option to improve their teeth and smile. We were able to achieve satisfactory results and significant improvements in the health and function of these patients (for some right in time for their wedding!!) with minimally invasive orthodontics using a creative and 'outside the box' approach designed by Dr. Majd.

Orthodontic treatment involves using gentle and constant forces engineered and designed with precision to move the teeth and modify the jaw growth in growing individuals. Orthodontists use different techniques and appliances, braces are the most common type of orthodontic appliances and can be made out of metal, ceramic, or plastic. All kinds of braces work the same way in a general term, the advantage of clear (ceramic braces) is that they look better and dont have the metallic look of traditional braces. They are also more expensive due to their manufacturing process and cost. Self-ligating braces like Damon and Speed System are a subcategory of traditional braces and dont require elastic ties to hold the wire in place. This is claimed to be moving the teeth faster and make the treatment time shorter. The jury is still out on this claim and there is not a lot of supportive evidence for available for this claim.

We are pleased to offer all of the available choices and latest types of braces and treatment techniques including Damon, Damon Clear, Clarity and other types of braces and devices including Acceledent, Propel and other techniques such as TADS that can shorten treatment time or achieve better results.

There are other appliances used for orthodontic treatment including removable (those that can be removed by the patient) or fixed appliances (that are fixed to the the teeth and cant be removed by the patient). Orthopedic appliances that are used for correction of skeletal, facial and jaw problems, are a significant part of orthodontics. The infamous Headgear is a time tested and well known appliance that even though it has received a lot of negative publicity, still does offer great applications to correct overbite and protruding teeth problems that otherwise can only be achieved with jaw surgery.

Orthodontic treatment time can range between few months to several years depending on multiple factors including age, treatment method, and how minor or severe your case is. A significant part of the length and success of your treatment depends on you! The more involved and diligent you are in doing your part, the more efficient your treatment will be. For children, receiving interceptive or early treatment can also help provide a quicker treatment time that can eliminate or shorten the orthodontic treatment they need in future.

The average orthodontic treatment time is between 18 to 30 months. At Fullerton orthodontics, we have different options available to our patients to shorten treatment time.
