When asked why I chose to be an orthodontist I respond by saying that wasnt my first choice. Instead, I say when I was a young boy I was totally immersed in the NASA space program, specifically the moon landing missions. When reaching high school, and I grew to over 6 feet tall, reality set in and realized I was not able to be an astronaut I began to focus on a more realistic career path.

It was during high school I spent many hours shadowing and working for my dad, Dr. Gene Fryar in his Michigan City orthodontic office. I know everyone has an opinion of the perfect career and for me, this was it. I am very blessed and appreciative of what I get to do every day, which is to create beautiful smiles throughout Michianawhat a job!

After college at Indiana University, I was fortunate to be accepted to Indiana University School of Dentistry receiving my dental and orthodontic training there. It was there in dental school that I met the one and only love of my life, Dr. Margaret Fox. We have 2 wonderful daughters, Lauren and Anne. I am an avid competitive cyclist, enjoy hunting in the Fall, as well as pursuing a passion for classic cars.

Dr. John Klooster originally formed our practice, Laporte Orthodontics, in 1973. I joined Laporte Orthodontics in 1989 as an associate and took over as the owner when Dr. Klooster retired in 1990. In the first part of 2006, I began the process of transitioning into the Michigan City office of my retiring father, Dr. Gene Fryar.
