We like to think of our office being special, in that all our patients become family members. We realized that dentistry is changing. And so is medicine, and so there's a lot of corporate dentistry and medicine happening, and there's a lot of personal touch that's lost along that way. So we continue to make sure that these areas are taken care of. So we've created a comfort menu, which allows us to suggest things to patients that they might not know that are available to them. We really like to personalize our time with our patients, we'll want to know what their children's name, grandchildren's name are. And maybe even their personal pet, this allows us to really connect. And so, yes, we have to do dentistry, but at the same time too, let's have fun. Let's enjoy the time that we have together.

I myself decided to go towards dentistry while I was in college. Originally, I was looking at computer science and such, and had a background in architecture and drafting. So I felt that that was an area that I wanted to work in was with my hands. Computer science just wasn't helping me out so much in that area.

There's a certain requirement with each state. Let's just say New Jersey, we have to have a minimum number of hours and various things. That's nice to be said, but there's just so much more that needs to be learned out there to continue to stay on the cutting edge of technology and such. This requires probably about four times that amount of hours that are considered minimum, if you will. This allows me to know what materials are best, which ones are holding, lasting, what's going to be easiest for the patient, maybe the quickest and strongest and such, so that continuing education has allowed me to advance and have office where you can go and have most of your dental work done.

Dr. Robert Chase has one goal: to improve his patients lives. He enjoys making over smiles and helping everyone feel as comfortable as possible. Thats along with providing exceptional care in our Mount Laurel, NJ office.

As the son of a truck driver and a high school cafeteria worker, Dr. Chase understands the value of hard work. His parents supported him as he made his own path in life. Growing up in southern New Jersey, he developed his artistic abilities and studied drafting. In college, he studied computer science before switching to premedical studies. He graduated magna cum laude from the College of New Jersey with a bachelors degree in biology.

He went on to earn high honors and his Doctor of Dental Medicine degree at Temple Universitys Kornberg School of Dentistry. Dr. Chase then completed Temples one-year postgraduate program in Advanced Education in General Dentistry. Since then, he stays updated on dental trends as an active member of the American Dental Association, Academy of General Dentistry, New Jersey Dental Association, and Southern Dental Society of New Jersey.

Dr. Chase has always been committed to advanced dentistry. Since 1999, he has been a provider of Nobel Biocare dental implants. He has training in traditional orthodontics and is certified to provide treatment with Invisalign clear aligners. In 2004, he added CEREC technology so our patients can get dental crowns in a single day.

Went to a vocational school and took up drafting, and originally I thought I was going to be in the art in some type of form that way. And then found my way going to college and working with computers, and having my experience with my general dentist growing up, feeling comfortable in the chair. It's something that I noted. And just when I would go to visit their office, I would kind of look around: What's available here? And how do they use these tools? Eventually, I had switched over to study biology and really felt at that point that it was, instead of medicine, it would be more in the dental field. And I'd like to say I'm more of a local boy. I grew up pretty much in South Jersey here. And I went to college in New Jersey, now known as Trenton well, was known as Trenton State College. Now it's known as the College of New Jersey. And that was my undergraduate, and actually finished up in three and a half years. And then was able to then to go the dental school, Temple University. It's here in Philly, and served the four years there. Got a great education, and so much that I stuck around to do their new residency program that they had started up. And that gave a lot of experience for me at that point. I already had my dental license, but then still being under the wings of some excellent dentists that have come before me. I have my family team here, if you will, and my personal family. But also, patients have become a family in a sense. So I'm watching kids become adults. I'm watching adults become grandparents, learning about just how it seems like most people own a pet, and the things that probably they talk about on social media. It's just more of one-on-one. That would be the relationships that we've developed over the years and such.

He and his wife (and our office team leader), Tammy, enjoy spending time with their three children: Nick, Liz, and Nate. You also might find Dr. Chase cooking, jogging, swimming, traveling, or adding to his collection of U.S. postage stamps.

Tammy has been office manager and team leader since 2002. With over 15 years of knowledge on how insurances work, she can help with your financial arrangements. She also has both clinical and X-ray licenses. Tammy is married to Dr. Chase and they have three kids.

Linda has worked as a dental assistant since 1986 and at Friendly Smiles front desk since 1999. She is married with two adult sons and has one stepson. She also has six cats and a dog and volunteers with animal aid organizations.

Justine earned her dental hygiene degree at Rowan College at Burlington County and also graduated with a Bachelor's of Psychology from Rutgers University. In her spare time, she loves going to the gym and taking care of her dog and two cats with her fianc, Nick.

We feel that it's probably a great thing to have a non-patient come in and just see our office and see the environment that we have here. I would say that we are much different in that we do spend the time to deal with dental phobias in our office. We've set it up so it's a little bit comfort with the chairs and various things, and coffee ready or such. But then even back in the operatories, we have the overhead monitors, which is a great distractor for many, watch a show or such. I would say that also, we have the ability to use (laughing gas) for some of our patients that might be anxious. Sometimes we find that even after a visit or two that they may not even require that. The fact that we're a single practitioner, or a single office, it allows our current patients to continue to see their dentist, their doctor, and not feel that they need to possibly see somebody else as we're seeing more and more in corporate dentistry. We like to set ourselves apart, spend that time with our patients more so. I work a lot of times one-on-one. I don't run room-to-room to cover. With that, even our hygienist, the same thing. She just has her one patient. She's not moving around from others that start. The most important person in the building is really our patients, and so we treat it that way.

We invested into a CAD/CAM system CEREC, that actually allows us to do single visit crowns. The benefit of that to our patients, of course, is that they don't have to go home with their temporary crown which patients really like that that they don't have to have that second visit. That's definitely been a good improvement and investment in their office in technology.

Probably about eight years ago or so invested into digital X-rays in that we had placed a panorex film or panorex machine which is the one that actually goes around and allows us to look at all of the teeth including the jaws. We also have the ability to do individual sensors, that is individual shots of those teeth with our series. That has really reduced the amount of radiation that our patients are exposed to with the conventional X-rays. It also allows us to have the speed of processing, as the former would produce chemicals and such. Of course, we don't need chemicals in any water systems or waste systems, so it's environmentally friendly, the newer technology of digital X-rays.

Other areas? Knowing that sometimes implant placement can be challenging. I allow our oral surgeon to place those, however, there are many simple implant placements that I actually address in the office. This allows our patients to have a fair amount of the work done all in one location. That investment into surgical implant placement was an area that I'd say also benefited our patients, especially when that emergency of a knocked-out tooth occurs in the middle of the week that no one expected.

Soft tissue laser has really benefited us in that it allows me to contour some gums for patients that may have irregularity of their smile, maybe where the teeth are shorter or longer and such where we can do some work there. That's an area of technology that I've definitely grasped and it's helped me to produce excellent results.
