Dr. Richard B. Dunning was born and raised in Mobile, AL, and earned his BS degree in biology at The University of Alabama-Birmingham. He went on to earn his DDS degree from Meharry Medical College in Nashville, TN, and was commissioned into the United States Navy after completing school. During his commission he completed an Advanced Education in General Dentistry residency program.
Dr. Dunning has been practicing dentistry since 1995 and has been in practice in North Carolina since 1999. He is an active member of the American Dental Association, The North Carolina Dental Society, and Gaston County Dental Society. In the 2015 Edition of The Leading Physicians of the World, Dr. Dunning was featured as one of the top dentists. He was also recognized for his outstanding and dedicated service as president of the Gaston County Dental Society. Dr. Dunning continues to give back to the community yearly: he participates in the Colgate Dental Screening Bus, Give Kids a Smile, and NC Mission of Mercy, serving thousands of locals who have dental needs. He is dedicated to staying up to date with advances in dentistry through participation in frequent continuing-education courses.
In his spare time, Dr. Dunning enjoys mentoring youth, spending time with friends, shopping, and traveling. Dr. Dunning and his wife, Valerie, have been married for 21 years and have two amazing children, Rosemary and Richard.
