Dr. Canby did a root canal for me about a dozen years ago. Did an excellent job, fine staff, no problems. A few months ago, I returned for a root canal on a different tooth. Midway through the drilling, an "uh oh" uttered by Dr. Canby was my first solid indication this one might not be successful. He soon stated that he was in a "danger zone", and then that he would not be able to complete the root canal. He next referred me to an oral surgeon for an extraction to be followed by the implant process. Instead, I decided to get a second opinion - from a practice in D.C. The 2nd endodondist concurred that the root canal was " a little tricky", but judged that it was quite doable, and a month ago, completed the root canal. Today, my regular dentist finished the restorative process, so I "dodged a bullet." All's well that ends well. While I truly appreciated Dr. Canby's declining to proceed where he did not feel he could safely conclude the procedure, I must show a reduced rating where a demanding, or "little tricky" in the words of the DC endodontist, root canal is the task. One possible explanation might be the different, and arguably better - at least in the eyes of this lay person - equipment/technology, that might be state of the art. The D.C. endodontist had a large screen showing a 3D image of the tooth - and was able to show me the particular canal that he was most focused on - while my recollection was that Dr. Canby's office had pretty much the same technology they had a dozen years ago.

Dr. Canby and his staff are absolutely fantastic. Upon walking in the door I was greeted warmly by the staff and I felt very welcomed, and even though I was just meeting the staff, I felt like I was just seeing old friends! They really took the time to understand my issue, my history, and make sure they got a full picture before doing anything medical. I had recently moved to the area from Charlottesville where I had a dental operation from another endodontist about a year ago. I started having some significant pain in the tooth, so I came here to have it checked out. I was certain that I'd need another invasive procedure, but as it turns out the issue was caused by a partial over bite causing me to hit the filling with my other teeth as I chewed! I was in the chair for about 10 minutes and then I was good to go! Dr Canby and his staff explained each step to me as it was happening and really made me feel involved in the process, which was of great comfort. If I could rate higher than 5 stars I would. I'll be using Dr Canby and his office for any and all of my future needs (hopefully none, but you never know!) and would recommend without question anybody to use his office for their needs.

Dr. Canby and his staff were super professional and super kind. After I still had pain after a root canal he got on the phone with me immediately and had me back in the office within the hour and a script called in quickly. I wish he could be my every day dentist!

This practice deserves a solid 5 Star Review, and I'm very grateful for their excellent care. Kristin, the practice's office manager, was very professional and caring and quick to get me in for a root canal. Katrina, Dr. Canby's assistant, was also extremely professional and top notch in her care. Dr. Canby is an outstanding endodontist; his evaluation was thorough and his description of my diagnosis and treatment needs was thoughtful and caring. He is a patient and knowledgable endodontist with a great bedside manner. A root canal is not a pleasant experience, but Dr. Canby and his team -- from start to finish -- somehow made the experience a painless and interesting one. If you are in need of an endodontist, I highly recommend Dr. Canby's practice.

Probably the best practice I have ever been to. From the front desk to the doctor himself, everyone was so nice, explained everything, very accommodating to my schedule, and Dr. Canby was very straight forward and gives you all the information you ask for and/or need. I wish this was a general practice! If I ever need any endodontic treatment, I will definitely be coming back here!

Thank you Dr. Canby and team, for a great job on my root canal. Actually fixing a root canal another General dentist did 3 years ago, that became abscessed, and caused nasal sinus infections to occur.. It was a complicated root canal it seems, and Dr. Canby did it correctly, with no after surgery pain or discomfort. Dr. Canby is now my root canal goto Dr. *Dr. Canby's office was very professional, kind, and working with my insurance company with no problems. They are even going the extra mile to fight the insurance, to pay for this 'repair' from the general dentist that did not do the root canal correctly in the first place.

If I could rate this organization and Canby a zero I would. Lousy care to aggressive collections make this practice one to avoid. We were referred to Canby by our general dentist and he will certainly here from us as well. Besides the very demeaning uncompassionate care, our family had to deal with a personal tragedy in that we lost a late term pregnancy. Admittedly, our focus was not on bills. We are responsible for that and once we received the collection notice, we called the office and offered to pay the full amount. The office refused any discussion with us at Canby's request. They informed us they would not take the payment in full and added that they would need to add in a collections fee close to 25% of the bill. We refused. This type of care and consideration is horrible and we encourage people not to go to this practice. Following up on your response. This is exactly why Dr. Canby rates a 1 or below. To suggest, that the practice has nothing to do once a note is sent to on to collections is really absurd and confirms why people should stay away. We are also going to ensure the our general dentist is made fully aware of the poor practices here and why they should not recommend people to you.

Dr. Canby and his staff were very caring and thorough in treating my son for the infection caused by trauma to his front teeth. Our first appointment was, quite honestly, a little scary in that Dr. Canby's diagnosis and prognosis were not ideal. By the time we were done, however, I appreciated the fact that he laid everything out so we knew what to expect. My son and I are all smiles - now that it is over.

Dr. Canby is not only a wonderful person but an excellent endodontist! He and his team are all so kind and will make you feel at ease. I had trauma to my front tooth in my early 20s which eventually caused it to discolor. I had been wanting to improve the esthetics for many years but had not taken the steps to pursue a veneer or crown. Instead Dr. Canby did a root canal and internal whitening to help improve the discoloration. The procedure itself was a breeze because of his expertise and the results were better than I could have imagined. I am thrilled and now don't feel the need for a veneer or crown. As a dental hygienist for over 15 years I am very particular with who works on my teeth but I will attest that Dr. Canby is the absolute best at what he does!!

Had to come to Dr. Canby for 2 root canals after had them both filled at another dentist office. Very happy with the outcome, no problems and no complications. The office staff are very professional and accommodating when it comes to scheduling appointments. I got a few follow up calls from the office after each appointment just to check on me and to make sure that I was doing okay! Very happy and impressed. Thank you Loudoun Endodontics and thank you again Dr. Canby.

I went here for a second opinion/consultation last year. Dr. Canby seemed knowledgeable, patient, and nice but I can't say the same about his office staff. They tried to pressure me to schedule my root canal immediately and was very rude when I declined and said I was going to consult with another endodontist that a friend recommended before I made that decision. Kristen, in particular, was very unprofessional when I called as a follow-up to ask why I was billed for a "limited oral examination" instead of the "consultation" I requested when I set up the appointment. She also was incorrect in telling me that I had to call my insurance company and get the billing code from them for the "consultation" and call back to let her know what that code was. This didn't sound correct but, nonetheless, I called my insurance company and they informed me that they never give out billing codes because it's up to the dental office to bill for the service they believe they provided. In my case, I requested a "consultation" but was instead billed for the higher cost of a "limited oral examination" which is barely covered by my insurance company (and probably most insurances). The office was not just discourteous and unknowledgeable, but more notably, dishonest in their dealings by saying they would do the "consultation" when, in reality, Kristen ended up admitting all they ever bill for is the "limited oral examination". I reluctantly paid my bill because they weren't willing to concede that they were wrong and they would've probably turned me into a collections agency. Dr. Canby - hire new office staff if you want a good reputation as an honest and caring business.
