Philosophy of CareDr. Mazzaferro and the staff at Frank Mazzaferro DDS believe in the importance of preventative care. We focus on keeping patients in good oral health so that they can live a full, healthy, and enjoyable life that is free from oral pain. This starts by educating our patients on what they can do to stay healthy at home. In our family dentist office we recommend that patients eat a healthy diet that consists of green leafy vegetables, lean protein, nuts, dairy products, and crunchy fruits and veggies. Eating these foods along with drinking water can help to keep teeth healthy and make them stronger. By simultaneously reducing sugar intake, patients can also reduce their risk of cavities.

It is also important to brush and floss throughout the day. Instead of waiting for bedtime to brush teeth, carry a small toothbrush and use it after meals and snacks. This makes it possible to remove sugar and bacteria from the teeth and gums before it has the opportunity to turn into acid that can attack the teeth. This preventative step can greatly reduce a persons risk of getting a cavity or gum disease. Dr. Mazzaferro understand the importance of taking these steps at home and will spend the time necessary to educate and inform patients so that they can stay healthy overall. Education, after all, is essential for living a long and healthy life.

Understanding the importance of these regular dental exams, the staff at Frank Mazzaferro DDS work to make each patient extremely comfortable. This includes being welcoming and kind while performing dental treatments in a way that is painless and relaxing. Patients visit our dentist office because they trust us to do just that take care of their teeth and gums, gently. The majority of our patients are local and come from the 13440 area, we also see patients that are looking for gentle dental care.

Seniors, on the other hand, often struggle with gum disease and oral infections. As people age, their teeth can become weaker and infected more easily. Bone loss is incredibly common with seniors and by conducting regular dental exams Dr. Mazzaferro and the staff at Frank Mazzaferro DDS can help seniors to have strong teeth and reduce the risk of them falling out. Since over seventy percent of U.S. adults suffer from tooth loss, preventative care is important.

Q: Are baby teeth really that important to my child?A: Primary, or baby, teeth are important for many reasons. Not only do they help children speak clearly and chew naturally, they also aid in forming a path that permanent teeth can follow when they are ready to come in.

Q: What should I do if my child has a toothache?A: First, rinse the irritated area with warm salt water and place a cold compress on the face if it is swollen. Give the child acetaminophen for any pain, rather than placing aspirin on the teeth or gums. Finally, see a dentist as soon as possible.

Q: How do dental sealants work?A: Sealants work by filling in the crevasses on the chewing surfaces of the teeth. This shuts out food particles that could get caught in the teeth, causing cavities. The application is fast and comfortable and can effectively protect teeth for many years.

Q: How do I know if my child is getting enough fluoride?A: Have your family dentist evaluate the fluoride level of your childs primary source of drinking water. If your child is not getting enough fluoride internally through water (especially if the fluoride level is deficient or if your child drinks bottled water without fluoride), then we may prescribe fluoride supplements.

Q: What can I do to protect my teeth during sporting events?A: Soft plastic mouthguards can be used to protect teeth, lips, cheeks and gums from sport related injuries. A custom-fitted mouthguard will protect your teeth from injuries and even provide protection from severe injuries to the head.

Q: How safe are dental X-rays?A: There is very little risk in dental X-rays. Family dentists are especially careful to limit the amount of radiation to which you and your family are exposed. Lead aprons and high-speed film are used to ensure safety and minimize the amount of radiation. Digital x-rays provide an even greater level of protection by using up to 90 percent less radiation.

So far, and HOPEFULLY I will be able to change this, I called as a new patient and honestly I felt as though I was being told that the doctor has to scrutinize my background to see if I was good enough for his practice! WOWWWW! So now, I have a broken tooth, and I have to wait until I'm told I'm "good enough" for his practice? I made certain to mention to the girl that I have a fear of dentists because I was abused by an Orthodontist when I was a child because my folks were split and Dad wouldnt pay and he took it out his anger in PAIN in my sister and i ..this certainly DOESNT help!!! This is the best rated dentist in Rome too...go figure...even scarier to me!!!! Update: Just as I assumed! I received a call back from the receptionist telling me that the doctor has made the decision NOT to take me as a patient. No wonder I have a fear of dentists! BEWARE OF THE SNOBBY DENTIST....IN ROME, NY OF ALL PLACES!! And this is supposedly the BEST Rome has to offer? Terrible commentary!!! NEGATIVE STARS!!!

Dr Mazzaferro had been my dentist since mid 2018 until just recently. I saw him for about two minutes during that first visit, but I never saw him again, just the staff. I wouldn't recognize him if I saw him. I had a cleaning around that time, and some x-rays. I told them I was interested in implants, and also that I was on medication for osteoporosis. They asked me for a letter from the prescribing doctor saying it was okay to treat me, and my doctor supplied it. After that they stopped doing anything for me, not even a cleaning. When I went back recently requesting help with a seriously loose tooth, they said he couldn't do anything for me. I wouldn't go back to him under any circumstances, and I do not recommend him.

My family and I were patients here for less than one year and I needed to cancel and reschedule an appointment. The person I spoke to apparently did not note that I had rescheduled and I received a call the day the appointment was originally scheduled for asking if i was in the parking lot. I told them no and that I had rescheduled my appointment a few days prior. They said that they no record of this and would need to re-schedule another appointment. About one week later, I received a letter stating that I violated the policy and that all future appointments would be cancelled. Simply poor service, and also, why go through the trouble in rescheduling another appointment if they are just going to drop me? Needless to say my family and I will not be going here as the communication has been poor and management even worse.

I took my mom 4 hours to go see Dr. Mazzaferro, I know he will give her the correct care. My mom was thrilled after netting him. She put her trust in his hands and once again he was a breath of fresh air. I will never stop going there. Love love love his work, personality, performance in his dentistry. Can't even say anything nicer about him.

Just called them and they are booking 3 months out for cleanings (expected) and 4 months out for treatments (i.e. fillings, etc)... Not exactly an "emergency dentist" when you can't fill my tooth (that has me living on painkillers because it's infected) for 4 friggin months.

After 8 years of (shamefully) not going to the dentist due to a traumatizing experience at a different establishment, I heard great reviews about Mazzaferro's and finally worked up the nerve to make an appointment. I can't rave enough about their team. My dental hygienist Carol understood my anxiety and was incredibly patient with me, let me take breaks as I needed, and talked me through the whole thing. Mazzaferro was just as gentle and kind. I set up my next appointment for 6 months from bow and for the first time ever can say I'm looking forward to it. I wish I heard about them years ago!
