Oral Surgery of Springfield is the Mom and Pop, private practice office of Frank A. Cornella DDS, MD who, with his wife/office manager, Gayle A. Cornella RN, BSN, are indebted to the people of the Ozarks for enabling him to provide oral and maxillofacial surgical care since 1998. Every one of us at Oral Surgery of Springfield views each day as an opportunity to demonstrate their gratitude to the community for the privilege to provide healthcare. Likewise, we appreciate our state-of-the-art local hospitals, Cox and Mercy, with whom Dr. Cornella works to provide emergency department and hospital-based services as a member of their respected Medical Staffs. Frank A. Cornella, DDS, MD Dr. Cornella graduated with honors from the University of California, Irvine with a four-year, bachelors of science degree in Biology in 1985. As an undergraduate he was awarded membership to the prestigious academic fraternity, Phi Beta Kappa. Dr. Cornella went on to receive his doctorate in dentistry (DDS) from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). During his four years at UCLA Dr. Cornella performed and published research centered on oral herpes virus. After completing the four years of dental training at UCLA, Dr. Cornella obtained his medical training and MD degree from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee. His oral and maxillofacial surgery residency training took place from 1989 through 1995 at the Vanderbilt University Medical Center. During that period he also completed an internship in general surgery. Dr. Cornella went on to include an additional fellowship year of training at the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore. This fellowship in oral and maxillofacial surgical oncology focused on operative management of head and neck tumors and associated reconstructive treatment. After completing eleven years of graduate training, Dr. Cornella taught and worked as an assistant professor in oral and maxillofacial surgery at Emory University and The Emory Clinic in Atlanta, Georgia. In 1998, after receiving his American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Certification, Dr. Cornella accepted a position with St. Johns Physicians & Clinics. After nearly five years of employment, he separated from the St. Johns (now Mercy) Clinic in January 2002 to pursue his vision of creating an autonomous, private practice oral and maxillofacial surgery office and created Oral Surgery of Springfield. Dr. Cornella is a Diplomat to the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons(ABOMS), a fellow of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons(AAOMS), a member of the American Dental Association (ADA), a member of the American Medical Association (AMA), the Greater Springfield Dental Society, the Greene County Medical Society, the Missouri State Medical Association, and the Missouri Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons.
