Dr Joanna Fox established Fox Family Dental in 2018. She has been practicing general dentistry in Cumberland County since 2013, and she has fallen in love with Southern Maine. Dr Foxs interest in dentistry and oral health promotion dates back to her youth in Canada.
Dr Fox grew up in Woodstock, New Brunswick. She obtained a Bachelor of Science from the University of New Brunswick, Fredericton. While studying at UNB she was a leading member of the Womens Varsity Reds basketball team. She thoroughly enjoyed the athletic competition and lasting friendships made while playing for the V-Reds.
Dr. Fox is a proud citizen of both the United States and Canada. After finishing up at UNB, she moved to the United States to attend Tufts University School of Dental medicine in Boston, MA. This is where she learned the fundamentals of general dentistry, and she gained valuable experience treating complex patients. Living in the city had left Dr. Fox longing for the wide-open spaces of Maine. She and her husband Dr. Brett Brayley moved to Portland in 2013. They have a lovely Goldendoodle named Stella who also enjoys exploring the outdoors. Dr. Fox has found her new home in Maine as she enjoys lots of dog walking, snowshoeing, boating, and golfing.
Fox Family Dental is the ideal place for Dr. Fox as it allows her to focus on providing her patients with individualized, prevention based, quality dental care. She is an empathetic, honest, and quality provider, which helps to reduce anxiety and build trust. Dr. Fox is looking forward to continuing to grow Fox Family Dental and to meeting you!

I love Fox Dental so much. Valerie and Erin are amazing and I look forward to every visit I have. I have never minded going to the dentist but after an awful experience at another place, finding Fox Dental was the best thing to happen to me! Dr. Fox is lovely and has a calming demeanor which would make anyone with dental anxiety feel good. I cannot recommend this place enough- I wish I could give them 10 stars!!!

Dr Fox has anger issues and is not a competent nor a kind doctor/person. I have been going to Dr Fox since they opened on a regular basis, every 6 months. The staff, especially the hygienist Isabelle who cleans my teeth are great. In fact, Isabelle has been my main dentist there. Out of the 4 years I have been going to Fox Dental I have seen the Dr Fox 3 times. Twice she has been out of the office and the rest of the visits she has not seen me. I had a few teeth they had been "watching". One of the teeth they had been watching cracked and now I am losing that tooth. When I confronted Dr Fox that why did they wait or watch a tooth that was cracked, Dr Fox denied any responsibility. I even went to have a second opinion that agreed more could have done for preventive care. I was never given treatment options for this other than a year ago, Dr Fox recommended a night guard with no mention I might lose a tooth if i didn't watch out. After I called and got a second opinion that agreed with me that Dr Fox was partially responsible and it was not unreasonable to ask her to pay for part of the procedure, Dr Fox did not like that. Narcissists do not like to be wrong so she wrote me an angry email and once again, denied any responsibility. I recognize you cant help some teeth cracking (biting on something hard, an accident) but she knew that this tooth was cracked and they were "watching it" til it broke and now has to be pulled. I do not recommend this dentist. She is unkind and incompetent in my opinion. When confronted she uses intimidation and anger to respond.

As the owner of a small business, I love how this business is run. The employees are all professional and kind. The office is well run and spotless. I actually enjoy going to the Dentist Office!

So pleasantly surprised by this place. #1 I love that it was an all female staff. #2 the space was impeccably decorated and didn't reek of that sterile dentist office we all know and loathe. #3 The hygienist and Dr. Fox both went out of their way to ensure I was comfortable and that all of my questions were answered. It was hands down the best dental experience I've ever had. If you are looking for a new dentist- I highly recommend!

Had my first appointment at Fox Family Dental yesterday and would absolutely recommend to anyone looking for a new dentist! My hygienist was extremely knowledgeable and highly passionate about her job. One of the best and most thorough cleanings I've ever had and very reasonably priced. Also, the facility is beautiful and extremely clean with great parking. Thank you!!

Dr. Fox, her office and staff are hands down the best. Very friendly and positive. I came here as a new patient last month and their COVID protocol was easy to follow. As an assistant myself, I work at MBrace Orthodontics and I know how hard it is to work during COVID19. Part of me actually looks forward to going to this dentist, which is a first! The atmosphere is very calm and relaxing, the staff is very detail oriented and friendly, and the equipment and rooms are sparkling clean and new. Even the nitty gritty of payment and insurance is spelled out clearly at the front desk. Dr. Fox is a pleasure to interact with, and does impressive work as well!

I recently moved to Maine and hadn't gotten established at a dentist office yet. With two weeks until my wedding, I somehow managed to chip my front tooth. I called Fox Family Dental and over a dozen other dentist offices and they were the only ones able to get me in immediately to fix the problem and were genuinely concerned for my urgency in the matter. I can't thank Fox Family Dental enough for getting me in quickly and taking care of my tooth even though I wasn't a patient yet. Great customer service and a friendly staff.

I was called, "basic" and "groovy" by the staff and sold on the benefits of lasic eye surgery. What else could you ask for at a dentist? Raspberry-flavored toothpaste? I will be back for future compliments and teeth cleanings.

My experience with Dr Fox is the epitome of why people HATE the dentist. I came to my scheduled appointment to get some fillings done. These were my first fillings and naturally I was very anxious. Dr Fox had set up for me to have laughing gas which I informed the assistant I didn't want. When Dr Fox entered the room this seemed to be the first thing that set her off. She told me I had 6 cavities when less than a month before said 5. She left the room and told me to decide on two with the assistant and she wasn't going to argue with me. I informed the assistant I wanted to do the two most critical today. Dr Fox came back and informed me she couldn't work on me because she wasnt in the right mindset after she said I accused her of changing things (I did not), said she didn't misspeak on the number of cavities (it's indeed 5 she confirmed), said I was questioning her expertise and profession, and admitting it was her Friday afternoon (it was Thursday at 3:50pm) and said she likely didn't have the patience she normally does. Needless to say I left the office in tears. Please avoid at all costs, especially Thursday afternoons!! Her bedside manner leaves lots to be desired. If your looking for a new dentist in Portland/South Portland, keep looking!
