Dr. Carpenters dental education began with an undergraduate degree at the University of Missouri- Kansas City and he was granted early admission to the University of Missouri- Kansas City School of Dentistry. He received his D.D.S. degree with distinction in 1989. He then relocated to Cumming, GA and established a private practice while rejoining his family. Dr. Carpenter resides in Cumming, GA with his wife Pam and two dogs Ollie and Wilson.
Dr. Carpenter embraces the latest techniques and technological advancements in dentistry to bring the most advanced dentistry available to his patients. Dr. Carpenter spends countless hours in continuing education annually and is committed to bringing the highest level of care possible to his patients.
Dr. Carpenter is one of a few general dentists in North Georgia that practices dentistry with a surgical microscope. Surgical microscopes are now considered the standard of care in root canals (endodontics) and are state of the art technology for detecting root fractures and other anomalies that can be difficult to diagnose.
Dr. Carpenter and his team believe in giving back to the community. He has been an active member of the Rotary Club of Forsyth County, Chamber of Commerce, United Way and Partnership for Youth- Forsyth County.
Dr. Joseph Merritt grew up in Roswell, Ga., and he is a proud alumnus of Roswell High School. After graduating from the University of Georgia (go Dawgs!) with a Bachelor of Science in Biology, he obtained his Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) degree from the University of Louisville, School of Dentistry.
The driving force of Dr. Merritts career is his calling to serve others locally and in communities with limited access to dental care. He has volunteered on multiple dental mission trips to Nicaragua and Jamaica. Dr. Merritt also volunteered at a Free Day of Dentistry several years in a row in Savannah, Ga., where he started his career in dentistry.
Dr. Merritt specializes in restorative and cosmetic dental procedures. He is also a certified Invisalign provider. As a commitment to his patients and his profession, Dr. Merritt is dedicated to consistently immersing himself in continued education. He has accumulated hundreds of hours of CE (and counting) by being an active member of a Spear Study Club, regularly attending the Thomas P. Hinman Dental Society Meeting, and pursuing specialized courses to expand his skillset.
Outside of the office, Dr. Merritt enjoys staying active, traveling, spending quality time with family and friends, and rooting for the Georgia Bulldogs and Atlanta Falcons no matter how heartbreaking that may be!

I have been going to the dentist for many, many years and my visit today changed the way I view dentistry. In the past it was always a frightful experience filled with anxiety. Just moved to Gainesville and needed a cracked tooth taken care of. Everyone was great to deal with. From the girl that answered the phone to set my appointment, to the receptionist that greeted me, to the hygienist and doctor were all welcoming and made the whole experience just amazing. Best ever. I needed work on my front two upper teeth. I never had a good experience getting Novacaine above my front teeth. In this case it was absolutely painless. The whole process was great. I highly recommend this practice.

Great experience from checking in to checking out. Kelly did my cleaning and she did a fantastic job with being gentle around the gum line. I could've fallen asleep. I'm also in the Army and they were all familiar with filling out the forms we're required to complete. I got some great information regarding oral care and plan on making this office my regular provider. Highly recommend!
