Dr. Derek Bock received a Bachelor of Science as a double major in biology and chemistry at Stonehill College in Easton, MA. He ranked at the top of his graduating class and received Doctorates of Dental Medicine from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine in Medford, MA. He also received post-graduate training in orthodontics at the University of Illinois at Chicago. He then completed a one-year fellowship in craniofacial orthodontics at the University of Illinois Craniofacial Center.

Dr. Anokhi Bock received a Bachelor of Science from Boston College in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts. She then earned her Doctorate of Dental Medicine with high honors and was inducted into Omicron Kappa Upsilon (national dental honor society) at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. She then continued her studies at Riley Childrens Hospital through Indiana University School of Dentistry where she obtained a Master of Science in dentistry and received a Graduate Student Research Award through the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry for her research on fluorides effect on bone.

Dr. Kelsey Brar grew up in the western suburbs and attended Benedictine University in Lisle where she received her undergraduate degree. She then went to The University of Illinois at Chicago where she obtained her D.M.D. After dental school, Dr. Kelsey furthered her education with a three-year pediatric dentistry residency program at the University of Illinois at Chicago while also pursuing a Master of Science in Oral Biology and a Master of Public Health in Health Policy and Administration. While in residency, she focused her research on reducing oral health disparities amongst pediatric patients.

Dr. Shiloh Golden grew up in Skokie, Illinois. He obtained his undergraduate degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign. He then attended Rush University and completed an M.S. in Biotechnology while applying to dental school. Dr. Golden earned his D.M.D. from the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Dentistry, and went on to complete orthodontic residency at the Marquette University School of Dentistry, earning an M.S. in Orthodontics.

Dr. Namie Kong grew up in the northern suburbs of Chicago and received her bachelors degree in Neuroscience at Wellesley College in Massachusetts. After her undergraduate studies, she was part of a pediatric cancer research team at the University of San Francisco, California, where she co-authored papers published in scientific journals. She earned her Doctor of Dental Medicine degree at the University of Pennsylvania and later completed a General Practice Residency in New York.

Dr. Shah completed her Bachelors Degree (B.S.) in Neuroscience from University of Illinois Chicago. From there, she earned her Doctorate of Dental Surgery (D.D.S.) from Marquette University: School of Dentistry in Milwaukee. Coming full circle, Dr. Shah came back to University of Illinois Chicago to complete her specialty training in Pediatric Dentistry and earning an additional Masters (M.S.) in Oral Sciences.

Dr. Justin grew up in the suburbs of Chicago and attended nearby Loyola Academy. After graduating with a bachelors degree in Biology from Santa Clara University in California, he moved to Boston to pursue a masters degree in Biomedical Sciences at Tufts University School of Medicine.

While applying to dental school, Dr. Justin worked as a dental assistant for a school-based fluoride and sealant program for the Boston Public Schools, where he first gained experience working with children. It is normal to notice your teeth or mouth feel a little sore or tender when you first get your braces or when they are adjusted. Remember that this soreness will go away and is part of the process to a beautiful smile! To help with any tenderness, we recommend rinsing with warm salt water. Dissolve about one teaspoon of salt in about eight ounces of warm water. Swish and gargle for a few minutes. Always spit the solution and do not swallow.

If the pain is more severe and is not relieved by rinsing, you may take a pain reliever. Consult with your doctor to see what pain reliever may be best for you. It is also common for the lips, cheeks, tongue and soft tissues in the mouth to become irritated for a few weeks as they get used to the braces and other appliances. For sore spots, we recommend using ortho wax that will cover the braces and reduce the tenderness.

Dont worry; it is normal for your teeth to feel a little loose! Your braces will first loosen your teeth before they are able to move them into their proper position. Once your teeth are in the proper position they will no longer be loose and this feeling will subside.

Occasionally, a wire or band may come loose and cause some irritation. If this happens, please contact us as soon as possible so we can repair the appliance. If any piece comes off, please bring it to the office with you. If you are unable to get into the office to have it fixed you can temporarily fix the appliance by gently pushing a broken wire back into place. If a loose wire is causing irritation to your lips or cheek, use wax or a wet cotton ball to cover the broken metal and reduce the discomfort.
