Dentistry was a natural occupational choice for Dr. Richardson having grown up watching her father practice dentistry. His office was the perfect spot to witness all aspects of a dental practice, and the transition to her first phase of dental assisting began here. After earning a certificate in dental assisting, it wasnt long before she decided to pursue an education in dental hygiene.
After becoming a hygienist, Dr. Richardson earned invaluable experience during her years of practicing dental hygiene. The combination of her enjoying dentistry, and exposure to private practices working with her father and other General Dentists helped her decide that she should fulfill a legacy dream of enrolling in dental school and becoming a dentist herself.
The following year she completed an Advanced Education in General Dentistry residency program at MUSC. In 2003, Dr. Christy began serving our veterans at the Charleston VA. She has held a position here to this date. The experience gained through serving Vets over this period of time has been hugely advantageous. Any dentist would be hard pressed to treat so many varying conditions on a regular basis as is presented at the VA.
Dr Christy has such a passion for dentistry that in 2007 she opened Folly Beach Family Dentistry in a historic beach cottage in the heart of Folly Beach. As the practice grew, it was necessary to relocate to a larger spot just a block away in order to better serve the community. Parking is now more convenient and the office is handicapped accessible.
Dr.Katieis a proud member of theAmerican Dental Association, South Carolina Dental Association, American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, and the International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology. Dr.Katieis a SMART certified dentist with the IAOMT.

This experience was phenomenal. My son had previously had a really traumatic dental experience somewhere else and we've had multiple failed attempts elsewhere to help him overcome his giant fear. The entire staff and Folly Beach Family Dentistry showed complete calm, patience, and professionalism during his very dramatic fearful entrance to the building and Colleen is truly an angel on Earth. Her humor and stability got him to relax and even enjoy his cleaning. When we left he asked when we'd be going back and was sad to hear that he had to wait six months until his next cleaning. Our experience was truly a game changer for our family. Thank you!!!

Let's face it : the dentist isn't everyone favorite place But I have been to plenty of them and finally found the one I love! They are so nice and personal. I have dental anxiety and they put me at ease!

I had a great experience at Folly Beach Family Dentistry! They gave me great tips on how to improve my dental health. The environment was relaxing. It is also amazing their office is so close to the beach, I went there right after!

Beautiful place and super nice staff but not equipped to work with pediatric patients (my child is 5). I would not recommend this facility for children under 10. Paid $50 for nothing but a referral to a pediatric dentist. After our failed visit, I found out from a friend they had the same experience with a 6 year old. I have heard wonderful things from adult patients.

I have never been to a better dentist office with more caring and kind staff and dentist. Dr. Katie is truly skilled, thoughtful, western yet holistic and truly cares! I've been going to Folly Family Dentistry for over 10 years now. I can't say enough good things about Dr. Christy Richardson and her staff! Dr. Richardson is one of the best dentists I have ever gone to. Her colleague, Dr. Katie Polley, is always very professional and affable. The last time I was there for a cleaning, dental hygienist Colleen did a fantastic job. Everyone there does such a great job!

I have a deep fear of the dentist. Colleen the Hygentist and Dr. Christy help to ease my anxiety. The whole office is kind and compassionate. In need of a new dental practice I made a blind call to these wonderful ladies. Due to a cancellation Colleen, the hygienist, had me come down for a cleaning and xrays. Two days later Dr. Katie and Emily, the dental assistant, did a crown preparation and a week later the permanent crown was installed. As an older guy, whose had a lot of dental work, I can say without a doubt that the dental work performed was the BEST I've ever experienced! I have found my new dental practice!
