Dr. Brian Holmes D.M.D. was born and raised in the small, northern Utah town of Willard. In high school he was involved in football, wrestling, and theater. After graduation he enlisted in the Marine Corps Reserve. He transferred to the Inactive Ready Reserve for 18 months to serve a Church mission in Ecuador. After this mission, he studied at Weber State University where he met and married his wife, Tammy DeVine. Brian and Tammy then moved to Portland, Oregon to attend the Oregon Health Sciences University School of Dentistry. While in dental school, they added two children to their family, Royce and McKenna.
Upon graduation, Dr. Holmes worked at a corporate dental clinic in Grants Pass, OR and then as an associate dentist at a private office in Gladstone OR. He was also able to teach at the dental school one day a week. In 1994, Dr. Holmes, Tammy, and their two childrenmoved to Hailey, ID where he bought the practice of a retiring dentist. They loved this small community and the many friends they had there, but they didn't like the excessive snow and cold. So, missing Oregon, in June of 2000, they sold their Idaho practice and bought a dental practice in Florence, OR.
Almost immediately, Tammy and Brian became very involved in the community and in their church. In 2001, Dr. Holmes started a preventative dental program that began in Mapleton. That project soon spread to Florence, Yachats, Waldport, and eventually to Ecuador and Grenada.
Dr. Holmes and Tammy love to travel and spend time with their family. Brian enjoys golfing and the many friends he meets at the course. From early in their marriage continuing through today, Brian and Tammy still strive to live by the following motto: 'When you are in the service of your fellowmen, you are only in the service of your God.'
Florence Dental Clinic was voted Best of Florence in the Dental Clinic category, presented by the Siuslaw News Readers Choice Awards. Dr. Brian Holmes received the Best Of award in the Dentist category.
'For over 20 years, Brian has been a leader, collaborator, & supporter of Florence and surrounding community. He has donated thousands of hours and financial support to helping the youth and disadvantaged populations on the Oregon Coast and communities worldwide through his dental practice.'
The 2019 Florence First Citizen Award was presented to Dr. Brian Holmes on February 15, 2020. The award was presented by Dee Osborne, the previous year 's winner. Of the nominees she said, 'This years nominees count for thousands of hours of community service and giving. Their stories are all inspirational. From their dedication to youth in our area to volunteering their time to fight fires and to provide medical care to the most vulnerable, the positive impact that they have made in Florence and beyond is a blessing and true showcase of their character and huge hearts. We honor each of them tonight with our thanks.
On December 8th, 2014 the Florence Dental Clinic was honored by the Oregon Bankers Association. Dee Osborne, From Siuslaw Bank, nominated our business for the Community Applause Award and we were chosen for the small business award. It is a great honor to have won for our efforts to better the community that we live in. The Florence Dental Clinic will continue to do what we can day by day to help our community and our children.
One way we give back to our community is by screening all elementary school age kids at the Siuslaw Elementary School, and Mapleton Elementary School at no cost. In 2001 Dr. Holmes started to bring a dental van to provide treatment for children who dont have access to dental care. Since the program has started, most of our staff at the Florence Dental Clinic has volunteered time to increase the oral health in our children. When we started in 2001, 87% of grade school age kids in Mapleton exhibited urgent dental needs. In 2009, urgent needs decreased to an astonishing 7%, demonstrating this volunteer program has been successful. To date, over 750 kids have received donated dental care in our community.
The Florence Dental Clinic has joined forces with the military museum and has donated the funds necessary to sponsor the American Flag. We are excited to see this community dream come to be and preserve our history. Thank you to all the service men and women for their service and part in making this country a free nation.

I LOVE this dentist!! As someone who has unfortunately had a lot of dental work done, I'd highly recommend this office. Everyone is very nice, professional and about as pain free as possible. What more could you ask for!

It would take too long to tell you my history with dentists and my extraordinarily unhealthy mouth for much of my life. Let me just say this ... yesterday I had an exam and cleaning with absolutely no problem areas whatsoever! This is very much because I have been a client of this wonderful group of people and especially Doctor Holmes, for the last 12 years. I couldn't recommend them more!

If you want to wait 6 to 9 weeks that's the place to go. Or if your in a dark room waiting for the dentist or anyone for 25 minutes. Thank but not thanks

Super helpful and professional the whole way through. My partner went in to get their tooth extracted. We had some concerns about anesthetic as Last time they had came in it wore off part way through the operation. The dentist alleviated our concerns and took the proper measures to make sure they were properly numbed the whole way through. We were walked through the whole process thoroughly and left with a clear understanding of what was done, and what we need to do from here. As an added bonus, it was super quick. We were in and out in less than 30 minutes.

Dr. Holmes is a gentle, caring, honest and very qualified dentist. At our first meeting, I shared that I had been dreaming about all my teeth falling out (go figure!) and his response was Let me worry about your teeth, Marge. That's what I'm here for. Well...no more dreams!! His staff is thoughtful, caring and professional also. I can't ever imagine seeing any other dentist---it's a pleasure to go there. And I have a real phobia with dentists!!

I have been taking my family to this office for about 3-4 years all staff are exceptional. I have to say I really enjoy and appreciate Tilicia their dental hygienist. My daughter loves her and she does a great job. She is also knowledgeable and is always making sure the kids know, and me, what we can do to make sure that their teeth stay healthy. Overall just amazing and helpful staff that are always friendly.

Members of my family have been patients of Florence Dental Clinic numerous times and we have always had exceptional service. I've always felt the dentists and assistants have gone out of their way to make sure we understand exactly what is happening and what the goal with the dental work is. They are careful, thorough, gentle and kind. . I feel very grateful to receive such outstanding care and service from them.

I am a new patient with Florence Dental and was very pleased. I had my teeth cleaned earlier and was told I had a small cavity. I arrived early for my appointment and was promptly seated and Dr.Alcorn answered any question I had. The whole experience was painless, efficient and quick. Every one was pleasant and courteous. I'm Chemically sensitive, and this dental office is not only fragrance free, but has bent over backwards to accommodate my disability. The dental technicians and dentists are exactly what you want, experts, fast, steady, and small hands. I'm actually looking forward to my next filling.
