Dr. David Fleming grew up in Akron, Ohio and attended Case Western Reserve University, where he received his bachelors degree in psychology and his doctorate degree in dentistry. While still in dental school, Dr. Fleming was awarded a United States Army Health Professions Scholarship and was selected into the Armys one-year advanced education in general dentistry residency program at Fort Carson, Colorado. This allowed him the opportunity to not only build upon his training in dentistry, but to serve Fort Carson soldiers as a general dentist for five years.
His service at Ft. Carson (and temporarily in Kuwait) was greatly rewarded as the Army Dental Corps selected him to receive specialty training in orthodontics. This entailed an additional two years of education at the University of Louisville, where he earned a Master of Science degree simultaneously with his orthodontic specialty training. These new skills were immediately put to use by the Army as Dr. Fleming was given the responsibility of opening a brand new orthodontic practice in Camp Zama, Japan for soldiers and their family members stationed overseas. After serving three years in Japan, and a total of ten years as an Army Dental Corps officer, Dr. Fleming and his family returned home to Northeast Ohio.
Dr. Fleming prioritizes time each year to attend numerous continuing education courses to stay current on the advances in orthodontics. He does not take lightly his responsibility to provide the best possible care for patients who have entrusted their smiles to him.
He is an active member of the American Association of Orthodontists, the Cleveland Society of Orthodontists, the American Dental Association, and numerous other organizations. He serves as an orthodontic specialty advisor in a local chapter of a nationally acclaimed dental study club in addition to his participation in a study club comprised of several orthodontist colleagues in Northeast Ohio.
Dr. Wise attended the College of Dentistry at the Ohio State University and graduated Summa Cum Laude at the top of his class. He was also awarded the Callahan Award the highest honor presented by the college.
After dental school, Dr. Wise served three years as a captain in the Dental Corps of the United States Air Force where he was hand selected to complete an Advanced Education in General Dentistry residency at Nellis Air Force Base in Las Vegas. He practiced the last years of his Air Force career at Dover Air Force Base in Dover, Delaware where he was recognized by the Air Force and Army for meritorious service. He later received his Master's degree and Orthodontic Certificate at the University of Detroit Mercy. As part of his commitment to continuing education, he completed the coursework and all necessary requirements for American Board of Orthodontics certification.
Dr. Wise gives back to his community and profession by serving as an alternate delegate to the Ohio Dental association, lecturing and teaching dental residents at Mercy hospital's General Practice Residency program, serving on Akron Childrens Hospitals Emerging Leaders Board, and taking the rigorous steps to have his research published in orthodontic journals.

We have been patients at Fleming & Wise for nearly 10 years. All three of my children needed braces, and the youngest just finished treatment. If you are considering this practice for you or your child, look no further. The office is clean and well-run. The staff is kind, efficient, and helpful. The doctors are patient, knowledgeable, and thorough. The entire staff goes above and beyond to make sure that patients fell welcome and well-cared for. We have had many compliments on our kids' smiles, and I always give credit to Fleming & Wise!

My teenage daughter has beautiful teeth and a beautiful straight smile thanks to Dr. Wise and his team. Dr. Wise and his team were always so professional and personable. They have the latest technologies and have a very clean office space. We never waited very long to be seen. We definitely plan to use them for our other kiddos orthodontic needs in the future!

Our experience at Fleming Wise and Scherer was fantastic. As a single mom I really felt I couldn't afford braces but my daughter had overcrowding teeth. Dr Wise accommodated us with a no interest affordable payment plan within my budget and my daughter's teeth are now gorgeous and today the braces are off! The office was also very accommodating to us juggling appts with sports and my work schedule and flexible with rescheduling appts when we had a conflict. Lilian at the desk was so kind and understanding when I missed an appointment. The office is very clean and staff all mindful with very particular sanitary routines throughout COVID were also maintained. I can not say enough kind words and we could not be happier with the finished result of gorgeous teeth! Thank you so much for your excellent orthodontic service!

My son had his braces done through Fleming and Wise. Dr. Wise was amazing with him and so were the rest of the staff. They have a scanner now that they can use for kids that have very touchy gag reflexes so they don't have to do impressions. My son was very happy they could do that for him when he got his braces off. His teeth look great and his bite is excellent now thanks to the team there!!! I recommend this office to anyone, but especially to people with sensitive gag reflexes.

Best orthodontist! My daughter got her braces here and we loved the service, kindness and environment. They exceeded my expectations in every way. It really surprised me how quickly they are able to complete each visit. When I was growing up a visit to the orthodontist meant a whole afternoon was gone. All of our appointments were quick and painless. She was provided with every supply she needed to succeed at no extra charge. Financing was easy, there was great incentive to pay outright but they are willing to work with you if need be. Highly recommended :D

This is the BEST place to go for orthodontic care. Dr Wise and staff are absolutely top notch. I recently had Incognito braces (attached to the back of the teeth) and I am beyond thrilled with the results! I'm loving my new smile now, thanks again Dr Wise and staff.

Three years ago, I decided after having required back surgery at 15 years old, required heart surgery for my ASD.... I decided to take on a new challenge in my life that I chose to take. I have always been afraid of the dentist. I always had a great dentist growing up, but all that close up, in your face, spit, teeth, yuck yuck yuck. Plus, I had a baby tooth that never came down. The baby tooth never fell out, so the tooth that was hidden never came down. I saw Dr. Ash, he removed the baby tooth and then cut an opening for the hidden adult tooth to come through. I then went and saw Dr. Sam Wise and his team. Well, let's just say, I puked, I cried and I was the biggest baby at 41 years old then. I always had nightmares growing up that I had metal strands stuck in the top of my mouth and I always tried to pull them out. Well, now, I have metal in my mouth. Robbin Smith-Lang, is a trouper. She took such good care of me there and always was happy to see me, even with my necrotic tendencies with the dentist. I can say that I was excited to go see the dentist (Dr. Matthew Thiel and his team) and Sam Wise and his team. I can really tell they were genuinely happy to see me or to even hear from me when I would call them. We all know that I went through a lot.... tripping on my dog and falling flat on my wooden floor....... I had my braces off May 25th, 2022. I cannot believe the day came. It was like a party! I absolutely love my teeth. I enjoy the retainer, it feels so nice when I put them on at night. I look forward to seeing them all on my future appointments. All I can say, is if you, a family member or a friend has had doubts about fixing their teeth, something I never thought I would do, please see Fleming and Wise Orthodontics. Dr. Wise and staff were amazing! From consultation through having my lower braces removed today, it has been a great experience and I am thrilled with the results! This was my second time getting braces, but this time as an adult. 3M aligners were used on the top row and traditional braces on the bottom. Dr. Wise kept me informed throughout the entire process and made recommendations as if I were family. The staff were kind to answer any questions along the way too. I highly recommend Dr. Wise and staff for your Orthodontic needs!!!

No doubt they care about the quality of your care. I'm due for getting braces sometime this year shortly after my wisdom tooth removal surgery. It can get hard to get in touch with them sometimes and that postpones the whole process and next thing you know, half a year has gone by. Online scheduling would be quite better rather than waiting on customer service. Great orthodontist doctors in the building forsure, but customer service line is pretty hectic, and a lot of phone tag with them. Regardless, they'll give you the information you need to improve your teeth and give you good references to other dental clinicians too.

I have had a wonderful experience! I used to struggle with TMJ for years and I thought there was nothing that would help me, but after wearing braces my jaw stopped hurting, and the swelling went down completely . My teeth look beautiful. The staff at FW is great, everyone is friendly and the atmosphere is always positive. They go above and beyond when scheduling appointments and and always answer all of my questions. Truly terrific experience.
