Step into our modern dental office and youll be greeted by murals from local artists. We typically have books available for your reading pleasure, as well as a complimentary beverage bar. However, these are not currently available due to COVID-19.
We use advanced dental technology like implants from Blue Sky Bio, digital x-rays, 3Dscanners, and much more. Dr. Zs goal is to invest in cutting-edge technology that speeds up treatment, minimizes invasiveness, and leads to better patient outcomes.
Dr. Richard Zeller founded Five Pines Dental in 2016. Originally from St. Louis, he graduated from dental school at The University of Missouri Kansas City in 2011 and has called Portland home since 2012.Dentistry combines Dr. Zellers passions for art, craftsmanship, problem-solving, and serving people. In his practice, he focuses on honest communication, informative care, and using advanced technology and techniques for better patient outcomes. Dr. Zellers dedication to craftsmanship continues outside of the office, too. When he finds the time, Dr. Z loves working in his woodshop and dreaming up new projects. Some of his woodworking is on display at Five Pines, such as the sliding barn-style doors in our patient operatories and bookshelf in our waiting room.Along with his wife Catharine, youll also find Dr. Z hiking, snowboarding, cooking, and going on adventures with their two kids.
Where are you from?I was born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri. I went to school in the Midwest as well, I studied business and math at Westminster College in Fulton, Missouri then went to dental school at The University of Missouri Kansas City.When did you know you wanted to be a dentist?Growing up I loved building things and working with my hands. I went off to college focused on engineering but became more and more interested in healthcare. I ended up choosing dentistry which combined science, business and my love for mechanical problem solving. I really enjoy having a skill that helps people.What is your practice philosophy?I want to help my patients make informed decisions about their dental care. It used to be the doctor just told you what to do and patients werent really involved in the process. I think all of medicine is trending away from that. My goal as a dentist is for patients to understand all their options for treatment and then work collaboratively to find the best approach for their needs.Whats your favorite part about being a dentist?I enjoy being involved with my community and as a dentist you get to meet a lot of people and potentially help a lot of people.What is your favorite thing about Portland?The people are great, food and beer are excellent, and I like having all the outdoor activities nearby. I also appreciate the climate and vegetation everything grows well and suddenly I was such a good gardener!What do you like to do when youre not at the office?I have lots of hobbies that keep me busy. Mostly working in my woodshop, maintaining my 96 Jeep, beekeeping and gardening. My wife and I enjoy hiking, snowboarding, cooking and traveling.Whats one thing people might not know about you?Craftsmanship is very important to me as a person and a dentist. I love to make things and you can see some of my woodworking and concrete projects throughout the practice. I take a lot of pride in the things I create and I love that dentistry fits in with that so well.

Incredibly compassionate, professional, and informative care. I have severe anxiety about dental work due to bad experiences in the past, and the treatment team was very patient and checked in with me frequently during my procedure. Dr Zeller was wonderful to work with, explained my dental plan and options thoroughly, prioritized managing my pain and listened to my concerns. Olivia is the best hygienist I have ever worked with, went out of her way to help me through a stressful experience by being very kind and understanding. Thank you.

My favorite dentists, highly skilled and caring.thanks Dr Zeller All was going well until Dr Zeller recommended some filling. Was left in the dark on whether the insurance they sold me , about $600 for the year cover anything and was asked to sign the invoice while I was lying down on the operating table. No information nor any explanation was given, to discover thereafter to my surprise that a bill for $684 was charged for 4 minor fillings. Several contradictions ensued from the billing lady and the doctor regarding what their insurance covered while she claim 20% while the Doctor claim 10%. He gave no response besides that he will discuss with his billing to not be repeated.

I've always had extreme dental anxiety. Before my appointment a couple days ago, I hadn't been to the dentist in close to 10 years. The staff at Five Pines Dental made me feel comfortable and did everything they could to make sure I was okay. I went in for some tooth pain and thankfully they had an opening and I was able to get everything taken care of that day. After hating the dentist my whole life, it's great to have a dentist that makes the process easy.

Been going here for about 5-6 years and have always had a good experience. Nice, friendly, professional and accommodating. Everyone has been really awesome and it is hands-down the best dental office I have ever been to.

Fine Pines Dental did great! I haven't had dental work done for years due to a traumatic event when I was a child. I came in with a pain level over 10 due to my bottom right wisdom tooth being infected. They heard me when I expressed that just numbing me wouldn't be enough. I definitely will be coming back. Thank you.

Five Pines Dental really goes above and beyond! The office is really nice and clean and the chairs are super comfortable. Laurena was my hygienist and she was super nice and did a very thorough job with my cleaning. Highly recommend this place if you're in need of a dentist!
