Born with a love of art, Dr. Quoc Lu enjoyed drawing through much of his childhood. Surrounded by computers, Dr. Lu also dove into the engineering and architecture design aspects of computer science. He believes that the study and practice of orthodontics involves both aesthetic design and empirical science in creating facial, skeletal, and dental harmony.
Dr. Quoc Lu was born in Vietnam but was raised in northern VA. After graduating summa cum laude from Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology annually recognized among the top high schools in the country, he attended the University of Virginia where he pursued a Bachelors of Science degree in Computer Science. He worked for several years in the corporate consulting world at Accenture Consulting. Afterwards, Dr. Lu pursued his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree, summa cum laude, from the Medical College of Virginia. In addition to his dental degree, Dr. Lu also earned a Master of Science degree in Oral Biology and a degree in Orthodontics from the Medical College of Virginia. He has been a contributing author in multiple medical publications and has also had the privilege to present orthodontic topics in national and state orthodontic meetings as well as abroad in Italy.
I was initially hesitant as I get very anxious when going to the dentist, but Dr. Lu helped ease my fears immediately. Not only was he gentle and kind, but his level of expertise really made me feel comfortable. I would definitely return again and recommend Dr. Lu to my friends. Thank you!!!
While in dental school, he served as Class President, Secretary of the Student Government Executive Committee, and a National Leader with the American Student Dental Association. Dr. Lu also started a local student organization called SAME (Social Awareness and Multicultural Education), winner of the Best New Student Organization.
Dr. Quoc Lu has achieved multiple honors including induction into the prestigious Omicron Kappa Upsilon Society as well as the William S. Kramer Award of Excellence an honor given to only one student in a dental class. Upon graduation, he received student awards from the American Association of Orthodontists, American Academy of Craniofacial Pain, American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, Department of Prosthodontics, and the International College of Dentists. He has also won the ASDA Award of Excellence, the Richmond Dental Study Club Scholarship, the AD Williams Research Fellowship, and the R. Ashton Gay and Henry F. Vaughn Memorial Scholarship.

Dr. Lu is highly trained in the latest orthodontic techniques and treatments for pediatric, adolescent, and adult patients. He is a specialist in Invisalign, Invisalign Teen, traditional and self-ligating bracket systems and high-technology wires and appliances. Dr. Lu also has extensive experience with complex cases requiring orthognathic jaw surgery as a former member of the VCU Craniofacial/Facial Reconstruction Team.

Outstanding orthodontic office with expertise and Amazing customer service/interaction! This business is so welcoming as soon as you walk in the door. Every team member at the front desk and within the office is kind and helpful. I love how they have and offer the toothbrushes for my kid to brush his teeth before his appointment. My kiddo was getting braces and they took the time to state what it would honestly be like in a calm voice, which helped him to relax. They are great with kids in explaining what will occur before they do it. Just in observing their interractions you can see their engagement and joy in working together. I also loved being able to do a virtual visit for one of the appointments (specific to treatment) and got confirmation and any other items I needed to send via text. The sitting lobby area is cozy and has hookups for electronics as well as tablets for kids to play on. I cannot say enough about the Doctor and Team! We love being a patient here. Highly recommended for state of the art orthodontic expertise/technology and treatment, as well as phenomenal customer experience!

I would recommend First Impressions with 100 stars. I have worked with Dr. Lu for both my Invisalign treatment and my son's (ongoing) braces/Invisalign. Great experience, great people. You can tell this team loves what they do. Dr. Lu is the type of person that cares about not only your teeth but your soul. He gives back and is part of a greater community.
