At times, it may become necessary to replace teeth. Our practice has 60 years of combined experience in all phases of implantology. Drs. Alan Fetner, Mary Hartigan, Michael Fetner, and Alex Fetner are a husband, wife, and sons team, and all board-certified periodontists. The practice was started in 1988 by Drs. Alan and Mary, who were practicing general dentists for five years before they obtained their periodontal specialty degrees.
Their son Michael joined the practice in 2013 after completing specialty training at the University of Florida. He won the prestigious Richard J. Lazzara Fellowship in Advanced Implant Surgery in 2013. Alex joined the practice in 2017. He practiced general dentistry for three years prior to his periodontal residency. He has lectured at dental conferences and study clubs about periodontal health and bone grafting.

Dr. Alan Fetnerhas been a practicing periodontist since 1985. He received both his dental and periodontal degrees from the University of Florida. In 1989, he earned his periodontal board certification. He is an assistant clinical professor at the University of Florida College of Dentistry and a speaker for the American Dental Association. Dr. Fetner also served on the faculty of the Pankey Institute and FCCJ Dental Hygiene Program for more than 20 years.
He is nationally recognized for his expertise in the field of periodontics and dental implants, and has presented more than 100 invited lectures in more than 30 states and three provinces. Alan is past president of the Florida Association of Periodontists and formerly held elected office in the American Academy of Periodontology.
Alan and Mary have been married since 1980 and have four children: one is a teacher and three are either dentists or dentists in training. They are a unique periodontal couple one of the few married and board-certified pairs of periodontists in the U.S.
Dr. Mary Hartigan has been a practicing periodontist since 1989. She received both her dental and periodontal degrees from the University of Florida, Gainesville. She earned her periodontal board certification in 1995.
Mary is an assistant clinical professor at the University of Florida College of Dentistry as well as serving on the faculty of Florida State College at Jacksonville. She has taught periodontal courses throughout the United States and Canada and has published a number of scientific papers.
Dr. Michael Fetner has been a practicing periodontist since 2013. He studied at the University of Florida, Gainesville for his undergraduate, dental, and periodontal degrees. He received his board certification in periodontics in 2015.
During his periodontal residency, he was elected chief resident in his third year of training. In 2013, he was awarded the prestigious Richard Lazzara Fellowship in Advanced Implant Surgery, which enabled him to continue his dental implant research. He is an author fortwo dental implant research papers.
Dr. Michael Fetner continues to give back by teaching at the University of Florida graduate periodontics department once a month, Teaching at the FSCJ hygiene program, as well as working with various charities to treat the underprivileged. He enjoys making things, from woodworking, metalwork, bonsai, and gardening in his greenhouse.

I can't recommend Dr. Fentner enough. He took me in when I was in pain when no one else did. His work, his sincerity, honesty was impeccable. it was painless, my nerves were calmed, he took time to explain the process, staff was the same. He didn't needlessly replace an implant that we thought was failing because it was loose, took the time to check the crown and saved me from the expense and effort of a full replacement. I'm so thankful that the first periodontist I called for an appointment was booked!!

I have been coming to this office for a few years now for deep cleanings and have been on a journey to make sure that my teeth & gums remain healthy for another 55+ years. Dr. Alex performed gum flap surgery and immediately I could see the results. By day three post-op, absolutely amazing! After a week, unbelievable results. Tooth extraction and implant is not something anybody wants to have done but if it has to be done, these people are great! Relatively painless, thanks to the painless numbing process. Friendly, not in a rush, take time to explain the process and answer questions. Allowed me to come back in at my request a few days after extraction and bone graft just to put my mind at ease that everything was in fact OK. Dr even called the evenings after extraction and placing the implant to see how I was doing. Who does that anymore? They do. Just don't look at the reflection in the TV screen on the ceiling while they are doing the work. You don't want to see what's taking place.

From the first appointment in 2019 to the last visit in December 2020 the staff was courteous, organized , cheerful, and empathetic. Getting a dental implant can be really nerve wracking. I was unbelievably surprised the calming effect I experienced with the professionalism of the staff. The implant was my back molar which I can't even tell anything is different. What a great job they did. Please if you are looking for an excellent result contact this office.

Even though I'm meticulous about taking care of my teeth, I nearly lost my front tooth due to an Invisilign treatment at another dentist's office. The poor follow-up that accompanied that treatment resulted in a deep pocket around the tooth. Fortunately, I was later referred to Dr. Alan Fetner and could not have hoped for a better experience. Even though the situation was grim, Dr. Fetner made it his mission to save my front tooth. I knew I faced losing the tooth and would have to have an implant, but emotionally, just wanted my own tooth to be saved. It was really touch and go. Dr. Fetner thoroughly explained the laser surgery procedure he would use, the gum/tooth anatomy and the result he was trying to attain for me. I felt very good about putting my trust in him. His assistant, Connie, and the whole team were great. I was very comfortable with a computerized numbing system which relieved my anxiety of needles. The procedure went flawlessly with better than expected results. The tooth pocket decreased greatly, and now the tooth doesn't move. He loves to show my tooth off to his staff every time I come in for a cleaning. My post-surgery discomfort was minimal with a two Tylenol remedy. The hygienists there are all top notch, taught me how to care for the tooth site and provided other personalized dental care. Today's technology is truly impressive, and the Fetner and Hartigan practice is very advanced. I've already referred my friends to him. I am truly grateful to Dr. Alan Fetner and his staff!

The absolute best! I have nothing but great things about all the staff. They all made me feel super comfortable throughout the entire process of getting my implant. I had a very important meeting scheduled last minute at work that was the same time as my check up appointment and they were able to reschedule me for the same day and were extremely understanding. I HIGHLY recommend Dr. Fetner and Hartigan's office!!

I was very scared coming in. I needed to take care of a deep cleaning and other issues with my gums 10 years ago. Due to another dentist office giving me the worst experience of my life, I tried to cure the problem on my own. As Covid came, was sent home to work. Eventually I worked up the courage thru my insurance to locate the best doctor. I found this place with amazing Yelp and google reviews. I came in today, the reception was super friendly, I have to give a shout out to Christie the hygienist, & Dr. Fetner. Christie eased my anxiety, very polite, compassionate, empathy, and super knowledgable. Judy was super sweet checkout lady, and very knowledgable as well regarding my insurance. I actually didn't have too much to do but a few cleanings and maybe a surgery, so it wasn't too bad. Looking forward to coming back. Best decision that I've made to save my teeth and have healthy gums. 20 our 10 stars!!!

Dr. Hartigan did a wonderful job with my gum graft. I'd heard so many horror stories about this being a painful process that I was going to cancel my procedure and just take my chances with my teeth. None of those horror stories came to fruition. I took my pain medicine as prescribed, iced for the first 24 hours and only felt slightly inconvenienced. 5 weeks later it looks like nothing was ever wrong. It looks just like it did before I had any recession. Would recommend Dr. Hartigan 10 out of 10 times

Dr. Fetner and staff are awesome, always ensuring patient comfort and providing thorough explanations at each stage of the implant process. They are top-notch in excellent patient care and truly care about their patients. I like that they have different themes in the rooms which made the visit exciting and to take your mind off of the procedure that was being done. From when I made my first appointments to checking in and the whole surgery process to the very end of explaining everything was a wonderful experience. Dr. Fetner even gave me his cell phone number in case I needed to call him that evening. I didn't need to call him because he called me to check to see if I was doing all right after my surgery.

I was referred to Dr Fetner by my dentist, Dr. Levin. I had been in excruciating pain for 3 days, so when I finally got to sit down in his chair and meet the staff, I was ready to get my tooth out! Since that day and the appointments since, it has been a great experience! The process for implants is a long one and I've enjoyed all his staff immensely! Dr Fetner explained every procedure and it was pretty much painless! He's a GREAT Periodontist, definitely recommend him!
