At times, it may become necessary to replace teeth. Our practice has 60 years of combined experience in all phases of implantology. Drs. Alan Fetner, Mary Hartigan, Michael Fetner, and Alex Fetner are a husband, wife, and sons team, and all board-certified periodontists. The practice was started in 1988 by Drs. Alan and Mary, who were practicing general dentists for five years before they obtained their periodontal specialty degrees.
Their son Michael joined the practice in 2013 after completing specialty training at the University of Florida. He won the prestigious Richard J. Lazzara Fellowship in Advanced Implant Surgery in 2013. Alex joined the practice in 2017. He practiced general dentistry for three years prior to his periodontal residency. He has lectured at dental conferences and study clubs about periodontal health and bone grafting.

Dr. Alan Fetnerhas been a practicing periodontist since 1985. He received both his dental and periodontal degrees from the University of Florida. In 1989, he earned his periodontal board certification. He is an assistant clinical professor at the University of Florida College of Dentistry and a speaker for the American Dental Association. Dr. Fetner also served on the faculty of the Pankey Institute and FCCJ Dental Hygiene Program for more than 20 years.
He is nationally recognized for his expertise in the field of periodontics and dental implants, and has presented more than 100 invited lectures in more than 30 states and three provinces. Alan is past president of the Florida Association of Periodontists and formerly held elected office in the American Academy of Periodontology.
Alan and Mary have been married since 1980 and have four children: one is a teacher and three are either dentists or dentists in training. They are a unique periodontal couple one of the few married and board-certified pairs of periodontists in the U.S.
Dr. Mary Hartigan has been a practicing periodontist since 1989. She received both her dental and periodontal degrees from the University of Florida, Gainesville. She earned her periodontal board certification in 1995.
Mary is an assistant clinical professor at the University of Florida College of Dentistry as well as serving on the faculty of Florida State College at Jacksonville. She has taught periodontal courses throughout the United States and Canada and has published a number of scientific papers.
Dr. Michael Fetner has been a practicing periodontist since 2013. He studied at the University of Florida, Gainesville for his undergraduate, dental, and periodontal degrees. He received his board certification in periodontics in 2015.
During his periodontal residency, he was elected chief resident in his third year of training. In 2013, he was awarded the prestigious Richard Lazzara Fellowship in Advanced Implant Surgery, which enabled him to continue his dental implant research. He is an author fortwo dental implant research papers.
Dr. Michael Fetner continues to give back by teaching at the University of Florida graduate periodontics department once a month, Teaching at the FSCJ hygiene program, as well as working with various charities to treat the underprivileged. He enjoys making things, from woodworking, metalwork, bonsai, and gardening in his greenhouse.

I'd like to compliment this office, but I don't know where to begin. The most important thing to me was that they are very straight forward about what is happening and what will happen and will do everything they can to hold up their end so long as you are working on the same goals. I've been to one other dentist office before .... But these are specialists. Professionals that I personally needed. This office blows them out of the water. If you're, afraid, or anxious, or unsure, don't be. Not with them.

I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Fetner & his office staff. At the reccomendation of her orthodontist, my 11 year old daughter recently had a frenectomy procedure done at Dr. Fetner's office. Dr. Fetner and his assistant explained everything along the way, were campossionate, and took their time in making our daughter as comfortable as possible. The procedure went off without a hitch, with no issues at all during her brief recovery period. We went in today for a two week checkup and all was well. However, there was an issue that had developed due to an adjustment that needed to be made because of her braces. Keep in mind, my daughter's braces do not fall under the care of Dr. Fetner as she had them installed elsewhere. It seems that the metal bar along her upper, back gum line was rubbbing against the inside of her cheek, which created a small, but very painful, open wound inside her mouth. For nearly two weeks, my wife and I thought our daughter had developed a bad ulcer of some sort. Needless to say, this extremely painful sore spot in her cheek wasn't an ulcer, it wasn't a result of the frenectomey precedure, nor did it fall under the responsibility of Dr. Fetner. Dr. Fetner said "right now, the most important thing is to relieve her of the pain she's experiencing" and he proceeded to use a small amount of some sort of dental putty to cover the metal bar along the top side of gum line in the back of her mouth, thus acting as a buffer between the metal and the cheek wound. It provided much needed, instant relief from awhole lot of pain she was experiencing. My daughter was immediately smiling again, something we hadn't seen in almost 2 weeks! I'm grateful that Dr. Fetner was able to do this for her today because my daughter's normal orthodontist, who would be doing the needed adjustment to her braces, is currently closed for the rest of the week through the July 4th holidays. Thank you Dr. Fetner!

If you need a periodontist this is the office for you. I had to have a tooth extracted and prepared for an implant. I am a big chicken and Sharon the assistant was AMAZING! Dr. A. Fetter treated me 10+ years ago and then again on Wednesday. He is so gentle and kind and would not work on me until I was completely numb. I highly, highly, highly recommended tho office!

Dentistry Extraordinaire! Dr. Alan Fetner is a master in his profession. This family practice should be totally proud of the business model they created - Very impressive. With each visit, I found the entire staff to be professional, highly competent, personable, informative and honest.The prices are relatively fair. The office space is very clean, sanitary and comfortable.

All of the staff was friendly, kind, and professional. You can tell they enjoy their jobs and are well taken care of as employees. The team thoughtfully walked me through the implant procedure and even followed up with a call that evening to check on my recovery. Highly recommend them. The new office also looks very nice.

This place is great! I never had to wait, the staff is very pleasant and always greeted me with a smile and Dr. Fetner is the best! He did a fantastic job and made sure I knew exactly what was going on and when the procedure would be completed! I will definitely come back if I need to! Nice clean office and great location!

FEAR NOT is my first advise. My visit was for getting an implant. Since I have not experienced this procedure I was totally apprehensive. But the staff and Dr. Alex Fetner quickly had me relaxed and ready to move forward. From that point on, each visit was such a good experience. Professional, efficient, on time, respectful of your feelings...are all attributes of this office and staff. Highly recommend this group and I will use them again if needed.

The staff is AMAZING!! My entire experience was outstanding beyond belief. I am not a fan of going to the Dentist...the word dentist meant pain . Definitely wasn't the case for Dr. Fetner and his warm and friendly staff. The visit felt more like visiting friends. GREAT PLACE! KNOWLEDGEABLE STAFF!! This is "Dentist " done right!!! when I found out I had periodontal (gum) disease is when I started going to Fetner and Hardigan. I have extremely sensitive teeth! Yanira Howell is my Dental Hygienist. She is professional, knowledgeable and gentle with my teeth. She is the very best!!! Her and Dr. Michael Fetner make a great team. They are honest, excellent at what they do and have provided great success in my dental treatment. I once dreaded going to the dentist, now I do not! They genuinely seem to care. I am 71. I had most of my upper teeth removed today - I dreaded it more than you can imagine after years of pain, opaque case plans, and officious dentists. Wow. Came to the office, was seated in the chair and chatted with the Doctor and his assistant throughout. They were calm and relaxed and I stayed calm and relaxed. This evening, The post op care sheet is actually understandable and practical. I have my new upper denture in and am extremely happy not only with the level of care but the level of respect offered to me as a patient.

I'm one of those people who hadn't seen a dental professional in decades. When I found my nerve I reached out through the website, knowing I would need periodontal work first. Best thing I could have done. Five visits in. Most of my dental trepidation is gone (as are my wisdom teeth and a bunch of swollen gum tissue). Melanie and Dr. Alex are real pros. The front desk has been great, from estimating what procedures are going to cost out of pocket, and just plain friendly.

This was my first visit to Fetner & Hartigan to have any work done. I was amazed at the Check-in by how friendly yet professional the young lady was. As I sat in the waiting room, I thought to myself it's gonna be a good day! Once in the room I was greeted by a young lady that was to perform the deep cleaning I was scheduled for. Turns out she was just as professional and friendly as the other one. She explained everything to me very thoroughly and wanted to make sure I didn't experience any discomfort during the procedure, and as Murphy calls out to me again and she had to hit me again in one spot with a little more juice. After that all was great! I am proud to say my visit was a pleasure and would like to sincerely say THANK YOU!!!
