Dr. Harold Aniya, a grandson of Japanese immigrants, grew up in Lima, Peru and speaks fluent Spanish. He completed a 2-year post graduate program in Advanced Education in General Dentistry at the University of Maryland. Dr Aniya has more than 20 years of private practice experience and has taken extensive hours of Continuing Education Courses which allow him to offer treatments in all phases of dentistry, including Preventive, Restorative, Cosmetic and Implant Dentistry. He has been working in Montgomery County since 1998 and he is an active member of the American Dental Association, the Maryland State Dental Association and the Southern Maryland Dental Association.
Dr. Adachi, a second generation dentist, has been practicing dentistry since 1993. After receiving her DDS degree, she attended the University of Maryland and completed a 2-year Postgraduate Program in Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD). In addition, she received a Masters Degree in Oral Biology. After graduation, she became a Clinical Professor at the University of Maryland and taught at the AEGD Postgraduate Clinic for 10 years, she was also involved in conducting research mainly in dental materials. This academic experience and her more than 20 years of career practice has given Dr. Adachi an extensive background in all phases of dentistry.
Dr. Ekta Laheri spent her early childhood in India and is fluent in Hindi and Gujarati. She received her degree in Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) from University of Maryland and further completed a year in advanced education at Temple University, Pennsylvania. She is committed to staying on top of her profession by taking advance classes in dentistry every year. In her free time she enjoys learning different dance styles.

My family and I have been patients of Family Smile Dental Center for almost two decades and we would not change this place for any other. Great efficiency and professionalism in each appointment we attend and personalized dental care that exceeds all standards of excellence.

I made an appointment 6 months ago. My day off was changed after. When I received the reminder message I called the office to request a different day of the week for the appointment. The receptionist was clear that if do not come to my appointment she only can book me after 6 months. I was frustrated for her answer, I asked her to call me as soon as one cancellation but she was not helpful. When I switch schedules on my office and came to my original appointment, it was cancelled when I never requested and was given to another patient. With my frustration now the receptionist mentioned "I can accommodate you...". That was my only and first request. The owner came and instead of apologizing or trying to help me, he wanted me to respect his already overbook time, however he never respected my time and as patient and the fact that I had to switch schedules at work to be on the appointment.

I visited Family Dental 2 times and I appreciated my hygienist Brittany. She was really sensitive with my teeth and gentle. I look forward to seeing her again in December. I have very sensitive teeth and she was super kind and careful around the sensitivity around my teeth.

My experience with FSDC is very positive. The atmosphere is very friendly, and professional. My dentist Dr. Ekta Laheri is super skilled and I want to continue with her in this practice for a foreseeable future. The hygienist are skilled. The front desk is very helpful, always with a smile and they are readily flexible to reschedule an appointment. The staff are very careful during this dismal Covid19 time about all the precautions.

Before I write my review, I want to provide a little perspective. Many bad experiences in the past created a situation where I am always fearful and sometimes anxious to go to the dentist. I basically had little trust for dentists and so In the past 10 years I have visited 6 different dentist until about three years ago when I started going to a dentist in Gaithersburg and have nothing bad to say about that dentist except that the location is out of my way. I was looking for somewhere more convenient to where I live and work and a co-worker recommended the Family Smile Dental Center in Germantown. My first appointment was today and upon arrival, I was warmly welcomed by the staff and was treated by Dr. Erika Adachi and wow what a wonderful experience I had. Dr. Adachi provided a service that I have never experienced since I started seeing the dentist. She was kind, gentle, empathetic which made me feel comfortable and I was able to overcome my anxiety. Since the pandemic started, I started clenching my teeth and Dr. Adachi empathized with me that I was not alone. She explained in lay man terms and to my understanding what was going on, suggested simple ways to address this and other issues that were going on. She showed me images through the video to see the issues she found during examination and I agreed with her recommendations. As someone who works in healthcare, I know how important it is to know and trust that your provider is looking out for your overall health and as such I have to give credit where credit is due. I wish I could give Dr. Erika Adachi and her staff more than 5 stars but the limit is 5 so all I have left to say is THANK YOU FOR THE EXCELLENT SERVICE !!! I greatly appreciate it.
