Along with Dr. Edirisinghes leadership, we are advocates for preventive dentistry and family dentistry because we believe that maintaining ones oral health isthe most effective way to ensure strong dental health. This means adhering to an oral hygiene routine and visiting the dentist regularly. However, professional intervention may be necessary to help our patients and their families maintain more complex issues while still ensuring their beautiful smiles.
Our Milford, Connecticut dental practice was founded by Dr. Williams in 1945, upon his discharge from U.S. Service in World War II. Originally located in Milford Center, the practice grew so rapidly that Dr. Williams planned and built a large dental office in 1960 across from the Milford Town Hall. In 1988, upon his retirement, Dr. Chet Sokolowski took over the practice from Dr. Williams, and in 1990 moved the practice to its current location at Harmony Place.
Dr. Sokolowski continued the care of the practice and eventually left to pursue a career in anesthesiology. In 2009, after completing 6 years in private practice as an associate dentist, Dr. Edirisinghe joined the practice. In the years since the practice was founded, it has continuously grown, with doctors and staffboth present and pasttaking a great deal of pride in the care we are able to provide our patients.
Dr. Edirisinghe joined Dr. Sokolowskis practice in April 2009. She received her D.M.D. degree in 2003 from Tufts School of Dental Medicine in Boston. Born and raised in Colombo, Sri Lanka, she received her initial dental degree from the University of Peradeniya in Sri Lanka, where she was honored by the Pfizer Scholarship for being first in her class in the second year preclinical courses. At Tufts she was also recognized as a High Clinical Achievement Recipient, a recognition given for high clinical performance in a demanding curriculum.
When Dr. Edirisinghe initially arrived in the United States, she worked as a research assistant at Yale University, Department of Cardiology. In Sri Lanka, on the other hand, she pursued studies in Child Psychology and Child Development and worked as an assistant speech pathologist before she joineda dental school.
We would like to introduce Dr. Tanaka who is joining our practice as a general dentist. She is a graduate of the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, 2012, and has Advanced Education in General Dentistry from the University of Connecticut Health Center, 2013.
