We will be more than happy to submit all insurance forms for you and help you recover the most from your benefits. We will do everything we can to help you afford the treatment you need and want. For patients who require major work, a complete payment plan is designed with an appropriate payment schedule. Dr. Shaheen R. Uptongraduated from the University of Alabama at Birmingham with honors in Biology and Chemistry and attended the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Dentistry. She is committed to being actively involved in her community and church. She enjoys working with young children and adults of all ages. Her gentle demeanor has helped many patients conquer their dental phobia. Her patient focused attitude, friendly chair side manner, and heartfelt compassion is remarkable.
Dr. Upton regularly attends continuing education courses to expand her knowledge base in Endodontics (root canals), Orthodontics (clear braces- Invisalign), Cosmetic and Aesthetic Dentistry, Laser Dentistry, as well as General Restorative Dentistry. Her commitment to education is also transparent through her involvement with such professional organizations as:
Dr. Upton enjoys giving back to the community as a volunteer and supporter of various charitable organizations including Cahaba Valley Health Care, and Habitat of Humanity. She is a native of Birmingham and currently resides in her hometown of Hoover. During her leisure time, she enjoys traveling, cooking ethnic foods, and going to the lake with her husband Gary and dog April.

Dr. John Christopher Clarke is originally from Decatur, Georgia, but has called Birmingham home since 2008. He graduated from Birmingham Southern-College in 2012 with a bachelor of science in biology. In 2014, he received his Masters in Oral Biology from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Dr. Clarke has published three first author articles in high impact factor journals as well as been a co-author on several others. He has also presented research in various meetings including twice at the American Association for Dental Research annual meeting.
Dr. Clarke graduated from the University of Alabama at Birmingham dental school in 2018. He is currently a member of the American Dental Association, Alabama Dental Association, and the National Dental Honors Society, Omicron Kappa Upsilon. He is committed to ensuring that his patients receive the highest quality dental care that bests suits each patients individual needs with expanded studies in Invisalign and oral surgery techniques. He will work with you to create the right treatment plan for you.
In his spare time, Dr. Clarke enjoys coaching high school lacrosse and other various youth lacrosse teams. He is an avid Atlanta sports fan and enjoys watching and attending games with his wife, Adelaide. They also enjoy cooking, hiking, and spending time with their two rescue dogs and cat, Millie, Charlie and Kitty.
Dr. Andrew Richardsonwas born in San Antonio, Texas. Due to being raised in a military family he traveled throughout his childhood, and in 2000 he ended up in his final destination of Alabama. Andrew graduated from Auburn University in 2008 after that Andrew went to dental school at UAB and graduated in 2012. For his residency, Dr. Richardson went to UMMC in Mississippi. Now living in Trussville, Alabama with his wife, Ali, and their two dogs, Toby and Ellie, Andrew looks forward to working with Family Care Dental for many years.

Was new patient and had an emergency. Listed to take emergencies and said they had no time. Did not open on time despite the posted opening time. Employee was rude. Initially I thought this would be a nice and caring place, but after the way I was traded I changed dentists immediately

If I could review Dr. Upton and staff with a .25 of a star I most certainly would. My mother (nearly 5 years ago) paid and trusted this team to fit her for dentures. She has spent 5 years in miserable because this UNPROFESSIONAL team (quick)fitted her mouth while swollen post oral surgery. They promised her new plates because she couldn't even talk without nearly spitting the upper and lower out.. They did NOT hold their end of the promise. Dr. Upton told her verbatim "I don't know what to tell you" when she returned for her scheduled follow-up for new plates' and was turned down. My mother was asked to leave when she began to cry hopelessly in pain from the plates not fitting properly. She has hide her face, developed chronic digestive upset issues because she can not eat solid foods, and at times has just went without wearing them because they gave her pressure sores on her gums. My mother is now being treated by a team of dental students at a university in North Carolina. They are completely in shock and suspect she actually received someone else's teeth. These students have had to measure and perform multiple procedures to gather needed dimensions of her mouth as a result in wearing these misfitted dentures for so long and made to believe she had no other option. My parents paid for everything upfront. For the quality of service and services performed to the outcome of my mother's oral health..MY PARENTS DESERVE A COMPLETE REFUND. WHAT A COMPLETE JOKE!!! Furthermore, I now I see why Family Care Dentistry in Fultondale offer discounted services.. malpractice! Please reconsider before trusting this practice.

Very professional, had a wisdom tooth bothering me badly, got me in the next day, even earlier than my initial appt time. Fast, friendly and I literally have no pain at all. I'm 25 weeks pregnant and haven't needed any pain medicine since the extraction. No swelling bruising and absolutely no pain. Thank you all again! Definitely will be referring everyone I know needing dental work here!

I wish the ladies in the front would stop speaking in Spanish when they are have way through a conversation it is rude and it makes me and I am sure others feel like they are talking about us. Then the assistant today I think her name was Michelle was rude and had an attitude, but I didn't say anything because the Dr. was nice. Clarke is the only reason I would return there.

Dr Clark & staff are extremely friendly & professional. They handle emergency care with ease. After multiple visits the care is consistently excellent. Always a calm & comfortable environment. Prices reasonable. Parking convenient. I Highly recommend.

At first I was scared I didn't know what to expect. When the technician called me in she explained step by step what she was doing. She stayed with me all the way until the physician and the nurse came in. I've explained myself, in turn he explained and gave me choices. The entire time I was there the staff was awesome and the physician has gone above and beyond. I would highly recommend this dental clinic to everyone.

I absolutely love the Fultondale office! Everyone is extremely caring and helps make you feel at ease. They're very knowledgeable and do an excellent job on all their work. Dr. Clarke is fantastic! This is truly the only dental office I've ever felt comfortable in, and I wish I would have found them sooner. I highly recommend them to anyone who has a phobia of going to the dentist or who is a nervous anxious wreck when they go. This office is the best!

They were incredibly friendly and clean. My partner and I came in first thing in the morning for an emergency tooth extraction, and they had us in and out in 2 hours, despite their appointments. My partner felt very at ease with them, and was thrilled with this cost. We also both loved that they explained every step of the process and made sure we knew what was going on. We will definitely be back!
