Dr. Familaro received his B.A. & M.S in biological Sciences from Northwestern University. He then graduated with honors from the university of Illinois College of Dentistry. He was then accepted into Loyola University medical centers Oral & Maxillofacial surgery residency program starting in 1981 and finishing in 1985. Dr Familaro passed tests & requirements to become a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery in 1987, And also became Fellow of the American College of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons that same year.
Dr. Familaro has been in private practice since that time and has served as attending surgeon at Palos Community Hospital and Christ Hospital. He was Chief of the division of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at St. Mary of Nazareth Hospital for 20 years. He is currently Head of the Division of Oral & Maxillofacial surgery at Advocate Christ Medical Center & Hope Children's Hospital.
Recently as a member of the Global Medical Foundation, he has traveled with other surgeons and healthcare personnel to serve underserved countries and to preform charitable surgeries. Also while teaching new surgical techniques to improve health care delivery in these areas.
