Our dental practice has some history (about 30 years worth!). Originally established by Dr. Mark Eggleton in the 1980s, Dr. Alison Poulin started as an assistant and ultimately became the owner in 2013. In 2020, Dr. Robert Atwell purchased the practice and it was renamed Fairmount Dental for the neighborhood in which we are situated Fairmount meaning the little city in itself.
Fairmount Dental in Bangor, Maine offers a welcoming, comfortable environment for patients to receive quality care. We recognize each patient as an individual and strive to provide personalized options for each unique situation that our patients present with. Our emphasis on educating patients on their oral health has helped many patients make the right choices about their care. At our office we promise to do our best to make your dental experience exceptional!

Dr. Atwell was born and raised on Long Island, New York and relocated to Maine in 2015 after completing his dental training at University at Buffalos School of Dental Medicine. He completed his general practice residency at Penobscot Community Dental Center and accepted an associate dentist position at Creative Dental Solutions working under Dr. James Sevey. In 2017, Dr. Atwell went on to establish Bucksport Dentistry, a small dental practice within an independent dental hygiene office in Bucksport, Maine.
Dentistry is Dr. Atwells passion and he has focused his continuing education on cosmetic and prosthetic restorative dentistry. He is a Dawson Academy Scholar, having completed their core courses which focus on occlusion, or how the teeth function together. He is continually expanding his knowledge base and seeking to create a comfortable atmosphere for his patients.
Cathy is a graduate of UMaine and is a Maine native. She has been a hygienist in our practice for over 30 years. She is passionate about helping patients achieve and maintain oral health. She has continued to learn and grow in her profession through extensive continuing education with a special focus on periodontal therapy. Cathy considers it a pleasure to work with this great dental team. Outside the office, Cathy enjoys her family, hiking, traveling and eating healthy food.
Karen was born and raised in New York where she started her career as a dental assistant. She moved to Maine 21 years ago and her passion for dentistry led her to further her career as a dental hygienist. 715 Hammond Street has been her dental home since 2005. She is extremely devoted to educating her patients on their oral health and administering to their individual needs. When Karen is not at her dental home, she can be found at her home spending time with her family and enjoying precious moments with her beautiful granddaughter.
Samantha was born and raised in Sioux City, Iowa. She traveled the country for 5 years working at different hospitals and nursing homes. Her 8 years of Assisting experience is in Surgical, Detox, Ortho, & Critical Care. Samantha decided two years ago to settle down in Millinocket, Maine. She is new in the dental field and is always eager to learn new ways to help our patients . Some of her hobbies are hunting, fishing, hiking, snowmobiling and traveling!
Jamie has been with our dental team at 715 Hammond Street for 4 years, and brings 25 years of experience working in the medical/dental fields. She has lived and worked most of her life in the Central Maine area. When not working, she enjoys spending time with her family & friends, traveling, hiking, joyriding the backwoods of Maine, cooking and flower arranging.
Sasha graduated from Brewer High School in 2006 and went on to obtain her Fire Fighter I & II certifications from the Penobscot County Fire Academy in 2013. She spent 4.5 years as a Firefighter and one day plans to return to the fire service. Sasha likes helping people feel better about themselves and has always had a passion for a nice smile. She is new to the dental field and loving it so far!
Outside of work, Sasha loves spending time with her family, fishing, photography, hanging out at the beach, going on adventures with her family, and spending time at the hockey rink. She also is a professional photographer!

I'm super happy with Fairmount Dental and my hygienist, Karen. I used to go to get my teeth cleaned every four months. Karen recommended I use a water pic every day. Now I go every six months.

Cathy DiProfio at Fairmont Dental is my hygienist. Cathy is super conscientious, gentle and extremely thorough when cleaning my teeth. She spends time educating me on dental health. I highly recommend Cathy and the staff at Fairmont Dental.

Karen and Cathy are very thorough hygienists, using their years of training and experience to customize and follow through with each patients dental hygiene plan. Mine included. Full disclosure-I'm a co-worker of theirs. Did I mention they are both personable and are a pleasure to work with?

Absolutely wonderful! All of the staff were incredibly kind and welcoming. They were very transparent with every procedure, and explained everything in more than enough detail when I asked. The entire office was very nice and clean, which is definitely a plus. Honestly, the entire visit was incredibly relaxing and stress free. I HIGHLY recommend!

I had a great experience at Fairmount Dental! It was a quick and easy appointment to fix my front tooth that had a chip. They color matched perfected and fit me in for a check up a few days later to check everything. The assistant Renee Pelletier was a great and professional. I definitely recommend!

Dr. Atwell, Renee, Karen, Sasha, (I'm truly sorry I cannot remember all your names, but please know my thanks is for you as well!), I cannot thank you enough for you kindness yesterday. You fit me in, totally last minute and were able to do a big procedure. Your flexibility and kindness and just sincerity and beauty of soul is incredible. Our world is lacking this lately, but coming to your office, (having dental work done!) ALWAYS gives me renewed faith in the world!! I cannot express in words exactly how thankful I am. Just got finished with my first appointment at Fairmount Dental. These folks are legit! Front desk staff were great from the first phone call to check in with Sasha. Hygeneist Karen is working at the top of her license. Thorough, kind, gentle, knowledgeable. They spend so much time with you going over individualized care recommendations and your exam findings. They even take samples of your plague and look at them under the microscope which I've never had done before but, being a medical professional, I thought was really neat and a great client education tool! You will leave with no questions or concerns. Dr. Atwell is fantastic, and is letting his staff do their jobs and do them well. You won't find a better dentist office. It was seriously the most thorough dentist appointment I've ever had. I just moved and you're always a little worried to go someplace new but I'm so glad I found Fairmount Dental.

I have been going to Cathy Diprofio for my hygiene for over 20 years. Not only is she an expert in her field, but, also extremely thorough, patient, and kind. My nerves in my mouth are extremely sensitive and she goes the extra mile to make me comfortable. She is the best of the best.
